1.1.6 -> 1.1.7 regression: dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files
Hi all,
We updated to 1.1.7 a week or two back from 1.1.6 (both standard atrpms
builds). Since doing so, twice now I've seen the imap services accept
connections but they hang before the banner is printed (pop seems to be
unaffected). I see this in the logs:
Dec 23 14:02:15 mail9 dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files

temporarily unavailable
eventually it got worse:

Copying a file to SAMBA server share fails?
I have a weird problem with my SAMBA server.
Every time I try to copy a file larger than 100k to a SAMBA share (mounted
locally on a Win98 machine) it comes up with the error msg: "Cannot create
or replace <filename>. The specified network resource or device is no longer
available".
I also get this in my smb.log:

Problems with xlsx and rjava
Hi,
I keep getting the below error regarding rJava which is required by package xlsx (I have used it in the past to directly import data from Excel 2010).
I was on R version 2.15.0 when I was getting this error this morning. So I upgraded to 2.15.1 but still the same problem. I tried unstalling and reinstalling xlsx and even rJava directly from the source as indicated here:

help: "dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files"
Dear All,
I'm having an intermittent problem, with dovecot slowing to a crawl.
Restarting dovecot fixes the problem.
Looking at the maillog, I see loads of these errors....
dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files
dovecot: Temporary failure in creating login processes, slowing down for now
dovecot: Created login processes successfully, unstalling
looking at the processes, I can see

BUG: unable to handle page fault for address nouveau_fence_new
(Apologies for any duplication, yesterday's e-mail doesn't seem to have
made it through moderation)
I've had several recent crashes of the nouveau kernel driver over the past
month or so.
My suspicion is that Firefox is causing it.
The screen goes black and then the computer reboots.
Nothing much in the syslogs, however I've managed to get netconsole output. I've

Dovecot version mismatch - after restart
Getting the followng error when managesieve is enabled. Any other post I've
read says this problem is because the service hasn't restarted after
upgrade. I've restarted dovecot & postfix many times, reboot machine too.
Still get the error. Racking my brains on this!!

OS X - `require': no such file to load -- sqlite3/sqlite3_native
I''ve searched and search, tried a number of things like unstalling
sqlite3 and reinstalling. Reinstalling Rails, building sqlite3 from
source, etc. Nothing seems to work. When I try to start up my server I
get the following:

Does a (free) script to do a ZIP lm exist?
I'm running R1001 on Windows 97. Hope this hasn't been asked before.
Cheers,

Samba 4.1 DC Account Operators permissions problem
There appears to be a bug in the samba 4.1 DC builtin group Account Operators permisssions.
By definition, members of the Account Operators group can add, edit, and delete normal user accounts in the domain, except those for domain user accounts who are members of domain Account Operators, Administrators, Backup Operators, Print Operators Server Operators, and Domain Admins. This account is very

Security Issue??
I have noticed the following behavior when testing out Samba 3.0.1 on RH9
with ldap authentication.
Linux Samba V3.0.1 set up as PDC for domain DOM1 has a user test1. Two NT4
domains DOM2 and DOM3 also have a user called test1 with the same password
as the user in DOM1 (all three users have the same username and password).
All servers are on the same local subnet.
When user1 does a logon to

Suppressing observation numbers
Dear R gurus,
Below is a part of the R output. Please consider the two lines:
> data
> model.matrix(m1)
Is there a way of suppressing the observation numbers 1, 2, ...27 in the
output (I don't want these number to appear in the output)?

reboot guest on panic
I have a guest that keeps crashing and want to automatically reboot it
when it crashes. See:
xen PV guest kernel 2.6.32 processes lock up in D state
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=550724
if you want to look at the details on the crashing.
Anyway, I boot the guest with the kernel command line parameter:
hung_task_panic=1
I have kernel.panic = 15 in the guest /etc/sysctl.conf
