anonymous function parsing bug?
Hi, thx for the reply. Unfortunately that is not a simplified version of the problem. You have a function, call it and get the result (numeric in, numeric out in that case). For simplicity lets use the "return" case: ## foobar<-function(x) { return(sqrt(x)) }(2) ## which is a function (numeric in, numeric out) which is defined, then gets called and the return value is a function

Downloading Reuters data from R
Hi R, Can we download Reuters (3000 Xtra) data from R? Does ODBC package help me in this? Or otherwise, is there a way to extract daily closing prices data of Reuters from R? Thank you very much, Shubha This e-mail may contain confidential and/or privileged i...{{dropped:13}}

anonymous function parsing bug?
Hi, I hope this is the correct list for my question. I found a wired behaviour of my R installation on the evaluation of anonymous functions. minimal working example ### f<-function(x) { print( 2*x ) }(2) class(f) f(3) f<-function(x) { print( 2*x ) }(4)(5) f(6) ### leads to ### > f<-function(x) { + print( 2*x ) + }(2) > > class(f) [1] "function"

Or more precisely: I would expect that. "Should" implies, that I want to change something. I just want to understand the behavior (or file a bug, if this would have been one). As I wrote, in e.g.

Superimpose Histograms
Hi all, I have data which is represented as a histogram and want to add more data / another histogram to this plot using another color. That is I need to superimpose multiple histograms. But have no idea how to do this. Can anybody please give me a hint? Thanks, Andreas -- Andreas Wilm Institut fuer Physikalische Biologie Heinrich-Heine-Universitaet Duesseldorf

particulars of importing/loading libraries
Dear List: Sorry for posting maybe a trivial question, but I have a basic understanding problem. If I have say pack1 and pack2, two R packages, and pack2 depends on and imports pack1 fully (as in the code below), is there a way to make all the functionality of pack1 available for the global and other environments (not only for the functions called from withing pack2) by loading pack2 only? anonymous function parsing bug?
Are you saying that f1 <- function(x) log(x) f2 <- function(x) { log } (x) should act differently? Using 'return' complicates the matter, because it affects evaluation, not parsing. But that would mean that {log} would act differently than log. I suppose it is a matter of taste, but I say yuck. As for 'return', don't use it if you want readable code. It is like a goto but worse. CAPI Installation Eicon Diva Server
Hi I've got a dell 2550 with an Eicon Diva server PRI card plugged into it. I can call out using the acopy2 test utility. I'm having trouble with asterisk making calls however... my capi.conf and modules.conf looks correct by the wiki instructions - does anyone have any advice on where to look ? I can attach conf files etc. if needed. Asterisk says it has 30 capi channels available,

Google Summer of Code 2009
Hi, in approximately one months time mentoring institutions can propose projects for the Google Summer of Code 2009, see http://code.google.com/soc/ Last year the R Foundation succesfully participated with 4 projects, see http://www.r-project.org/SoC08/ for details. We want to participate again this year. Our project proposals will be managed by Manuel Eugster (email address in CC). Manuel

Overriding axis formatting with custom Axis method, Axis.numeric etc
Dear list: I would like to override the default way R formats plot axes with a custom method(s). Obviously I would prefer to define it as general as possible avoiding writing a custom method for each individual class where possible. The plot.default method (and I assume other methods as well) calls Axis(...) to produce the axis layout depending on data. In this sense it seems reasonable to

Rd \usage clause for an S4 replace method
Given S4 methods [ and [<-, how do I write the Rd-file usage clause for the latter one? What I have now is: \S4method{[}{TimeSeries,TimeDate,missing}(x, i, j, ..., drop) \S4method{[<-}{TimeSeries,TimeDate,missing,ANY}(x, i, j, ..., value) which results in the following output: ## S4 method for signature 'TimeSeries, TimeDate, missing': x[i, j, ..., drop]

Question about embedding Xapian index in one file
Hi, Xapian uses a directory as standard storage backend. Is that possible to pack everything in a file (a tar file for example), and to tell libxapian to open it (by telling him at which offset are the different stuff)? If this is not possible yet, would that be technically possible to implement such a feature? How complex would that be? Kind regards Emmanuel -- Kiwix - Wikipedia Offline &

setClassUnion with numeric; extending class union
Dear list: I am looking for a good way to create an S4 class that would extend numeric, but would allow NULL instead of data as well. As far as I can see there is no way at the moment to do that, but please correct me if I am wrong. The best solution I came up with so far was the following (it also indicates a problem of using setClassUnion with numeric as one of the classes): I define a class

Can't install "e1071"
I observed the same behavior as Edward this morning with R-1.2.2 on Red Hat Linux 7.0. There appears to be a problem with the library in netpbm-9.5-5, even after hunting down the missing shhopt.h that pbmplus.h is looking for. I worked around the problem by compiling e1071 without pbm support (moved pbm.c to pbm.c.bak). Matt Matthew R. Nelson, Ph.D. Director, Information Systems Esperion

Missing functions in package e1071(Win*)
Hi! After unziping the CRAN file e1071.zip on my Win95 library directory, I start R and type >library(e1071) After that, help commands of the e1071 functions work (i.e., help(read.pnm), BUT some functions themselves are not available: > read.pnm Error: Object "read.pnm" not found I've looked at the file library/R/e1071 with an ascii editor and it seems like the functions

CTRL-C during .Call causes R to quit to command line
Hello, During a .Call e.g while(TRUE){ value <-rhsqnextKVR(rdr) ## has .Call in this function if(is.null(value)) break; } if I press CTRL-C, R exits straight to the command line. Q: How can I prevent this? I should point out that my library uses JNI, so I'm not sure if that is causing it. I'm using R-2.8 on Linux (RHEL 5) Thank you in advance Regards Saptarshi
