Suggestion for read.table()
First, I compliment you all for such a useful project as R. Suggestion: If read.table() could take input from a character string, then one could write raw= " x y z 1 2 3 4 5 6 " df = read.table(raw,head=TRUE) Of course, one can cat() to write raw into a temporary file, and read.table() from that file. However, direct reading might be a good option? Hope this is

Extracting xy from raster based on raster value
I have a raster (which I called glc), which I read into R as a raster with "raster.create.from.file" from the raster package (R-forge). Values in glc range between 1 and 27 (whole numbers only). I'd like to extract all cells with a value of 1 to create a new raster with only the cells that have a value of 1, or to extract the xy values of all raster cells with a value of 1. Could you

Exclude rows in xyplot
Hi all, I'm searching for a way to exclude outliers from my dataset while making xyplots. While plotting using pairs(), I exclude specific row in my data frame and save the settings as a variable which I later include as an argument: # Discard outliers and save settings as idx idx=with(fieldTrial0809, which(Pro>0 & Pro<0.95 & Fum>0 & Fum<0.4 & Mal>0.1 &

How to insert gridlines in lattice density plot
Greetings. How can I insert gridlines in the following density plot call? Must one compose a panel function? Loading .Rdata within an R function
Colleagues: I am having trouble loading data from within .Rdata file within the environment of a function. That is, the following always loads to the global environment: f1 <- function() { load("mydata.Rdata") # compute with objects from mydata.Rdata. } I wish to load mydata.Rdata only within the function f1. Perhaps I have misunderstood

Adjusted means and generalized chain block designs
Dear Colleagues, John Mandel ( Chain block designs with two-way elimination of heterogeneity. Biometrics 10, 251-272 ,1954). extended the class of chain block designs (Youden & Conner (1953) to elimination of both row and column (blocks) effects. These experimental designs can be useful in engineering and other fields. I am having difficulty obtaining his adjusted treatment means in his

print() required sometimes in interactive use of console
Surprising behavior: Most R users are aware that print() must be used inside functions to gain output on the console. Apparently, print() is sometimes required when interactively using the console. For example, the followingmay be entered into the R console with different results. sample(1:8,8) #prints a permutation of 1 to 8 for(i in 1:5) #does not sample(1:8,8)

Print several xyplots to the same page in a pdf file
Hello everybody, I'm using the lattice package and the xyplot to make several graphs like below. However, I can just print the three grouped plots onto one page as I'm putting them into a pdf-file, which gives me a huge amount of pages... Is it possible to put them all, or at least more than one on the same page, for instance put three groups beside each other like columns? ...

RFC: atomic operations on SI+
Hi Tom, Matt, I'm working on a project that needs few coherent atomic operations (HSA mode: load, store, compare-and-swap) for std::atomic_uint in HCC. the attached patch implements atomic compare and swap for SI+ (untested). I tried to stay within what was available, but there are few issues that I was unsure how to address: 1.) it currently uses v2i32 for both input and output. This

how to ignore NA when using cumsum WHILE retaining NAs?
I would like to cumulatively sum rows in a matrix, in which each row has 1 NA value, which I do NOT want to treat as 0s. The NAs are placeholders where there is actually no data, which is not the same as a 0. The usual "na.rm=TRUE" does not seem to work with the command cumsum. Is there another way to ignore the NAs or do I need to figure out a different way to do this? Here's an
