an alternative to R for nonlinear stat models
Hi I implemented the age-structure model in Gove et al (2002) in R, which is a nonlinear statistical model. However running the model in R was very slow. So Dave Fournier suggested to use the AD Model Builder Software package and helped me implement the model there. ADMB was incredibly fast in running the model: While running the model in R took 5-10 minutes, depending on the

Speculative attack mitigations
Hi folks, Firstly; apologies in advance for what is a head wrecker of keeping on top of the speculative mitigations and also if this is a duplicate email; my first copy didn't seem to make it into the archive. Also a disclaimer that I may have misunderstood elements of the below but please bear with me. I write this hoping to find out a bit more about the state of the relevant kernel

multiple versions on ubuntu
I am new to ubuntu, but have used R for years on Fedora. I have a simple question that I do not quite understand. I first installed R from the ubuntu repository (2.6.2 I believe it was--whatever is current there) before finding the debian/ubuntu SIG here when searching for R 2.7.1. Subsequently I upgraded to 2.7.1 using the instructions at http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/. I am

KernSmooth not loading in R 2.7.2
I just upgraded to R 2.7.2 (from 2.7.1) this morning (Ubuntu amd64 platform). Shortly afterwards, I ran into a problem loading the odesolve library, it could not find libRblas.so. I was able to fix this by rebuilding odesolve. Now, KernSmooth gives me the same problem... R> library(KernSmooth) Error in dyn.load(file, DLLpath = DLLpath, ...) : unable to load shared library

[BUG] nouveau lockdep splat
I hit this while testing HMM with nouveau on linux-5.5-rc5. I'm not a lockdep expert but my understanding of this is that an invalidation callback could potentially call kzalloc(GFP_KERNEL) which could cause another invalidation and recursively deadlock. Looking at the drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nvkm/ layer, I do see a number of places where GFP_KERNEL is used for allocations and I don't see

Asterisk on SuSE 9.1?
I am trying to do my first asterisk install on a SuSE 9.1 box, using the asterisk-update script mentioned a few days ago on this list. I did read the 'quickstart' document on onlamp.com, and made sure the following packages were installed via yast: bison, cvs, gcc, kernel-source, libtermcap-devel, ncurses-devel, newt-devel, openssl096b, and openssl-devel. The SuSE 9.1 DVD contained

Segmentation fault when using "plot" function
I frequently get a segmentation fault error when using the "plot" command. It happens about half the time. We are running an old version of R (R version 2.8.0 (2008-10-20) on Linux. I did a quick search for this problem and didn't find anything. Apologies if I missed it. *** Process received signal *** Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Signal code: Address not mapped (1)

glibc detected *** /usr/lib64/R/bin/exec/R: double free or corruption ???? tm package
Hi, I have a collection of .txt documents in my working folder for which I want to do some text mining. If I run TextDocCol from the tm package, R crashes with some memory issues. Does anyone has any idea if this is related to R itself or to the tm package? Below you can find what is happening here. > setwd("/home/jan/Work/2008/Profacts/textmining/tryouts/workfolder") >

Problem starting puppetd for the first time (Could not create resources ...)
Hi,,, I have a strange problem when installing puppet client 2.6.3 on a node. I have installed facter-1.3.8-4 and ruby-1.8.6-8. When I start puppetd as a normal user everything behaves normally. A .puppet directory is installed under $HOME and ssl key is installed under $HOME/.puppet/ssl.. I sign the certificat on the puppet master and the client is working fine. However I cannot change

Dmesg log for 2.6.31-rc8 kernel been built on F12 (rawhide) vs log for same kernel been built on F11 and installed on F12
Previous 2.6.31-rc8 kernel was built on F11 and installed with modules on F12. Current kernel has been built on F12 (2.6.31-0.204.rc9.fc12.x86_64) and installed on F12 before loading under Xen 3.4.1. Dmesg log looks similar to Michael Yuong''s ''rc7.git4''  kernel for F12. Boris. --- On Tue, 9/8/09, Boris Derzhavets <bderzhavets@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Boris

CentOS 5 ssloooowww when network unavailable
This is undoubtedly an upstream issue, but ... I've been messing about with that hp pavilion trying to get wireless working. If I boot with the eth0 NIC plugged in, everything is blazingly fast -- GDM comes up in a few seconds, the Gnome startup splash screen barely has time to appear before it's gone again, shells pop up the instant I click Open Terminal. If I unplug the network and

Strange situation with openssl and kernel
Hello, On a VM guest (running under KVM) with CentOS 5.8, I yesterday strangely got the following (see below). The server runs apache/php/squirrelmail/postfix/dovecot/openldap and it is a production server. Do you advise to do some particular file system checks or other settings? Any other advice? Such errors have not appeared in the past. Thanks, Nick System info:

Freeze with 2.6.32.19 and xen-4.0.1rc5
Hi, i have big trouble with a Debian Lenny dom0 and latest kernel 2.6.32.19 with xen-4.0.1rc5. Due some reason the system freezes from time to time. I used kernel 2.6.31.9 with xen-3.4.2 before. The machine doesn''t write anything to serial console so there are no errors or something like that. Perhaps there is something to see from the logs ... Hardware Board: Intel DQ45CB CPU:
