Lazy loading... advices
Hello, I am looking for more information about lazy loading introduced in R 2.0.0. Doing ?lazyLoad I got some and there is a 'see also' section that points to 'makeLazyLoading'... But I cannot reach this page. My problem is: I recompiled a library that uses a lot of functions from other libraries (of course I can give details if needed). I load it in my computer: library(svGUI),

Persistent state of R
Hi I am using R as a back-end to some CGI scripts, written in Perl. My platform is Suse Linux 8.2, Apache 1.3.7. So the CGI script takes some form parameters, opens a pipe to an R process, loads up some Bioconductor libraries, executes some R commands and takes the ouput and creates a web page. It is all very neat and works well. I am trying to make my cgi scripts quicker and it turns out

grDevices segfault when building R4.4.0 on RHEL 9.1.
Dear Miguel Esteva, I couldn't get a Red Hat "ubi9" container to install enough dependencies to build R. Is there a way to reproduce your setup on a virtual machine somewhere? New lazyload rdx key type: list(eagerKey=, lazyKeys=)
Prior to R-3.6.0 the keys in the lazyload key files, e.g. pkg/data/Rdata.rdx or pkg/R/pkg.rdx, seemed to all be 2-long integer vectors. Now they can be lists. The ones I have seen have two components, "eagerKey" is a 2-long integer vector and "lazyKeys" is a named list of 2-long integer vectors. > rdx <- readRDS(system.file(package="survival",

possibly stupid question about RPM building
I'm trying to build an RPM of R 2.3.1 on a very old RedHat system (specifically, a ROCKS 3.3.0 cluster which is built on RH enterprise 3 (I think??)) I downloaded R-2.3.1.tgz from CRAN; downloaded the R.spec file cran.r-project.org/http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/SRPMS/ ; and ran rpmbuild -ba R.specs. Everything goes along fine until ... make[5]: Entering directory

Problem in method's Makefile?
Hi there ... Not too long after the switch to using Subversion I tried to checkout & build R but encountered an error - and being short on time at that point put it off to look at later. So today I sat down again and was encountering this error every time I would attempt to build: dumping R code in package 'methods' Saving namespace image ... initializing class and method

.install_package_description error
Hi R, Apologies for the earlier non-informative error message. I am installing R 2.0.1 from source on a Linux debian system. Configure works fine. Then I run make and get an error that was reported by several people when installing R 2.0.0. When to use LazyLoad, LazyData and ZipData?
Dear developeRs, I've searched the documentation, FAQ, and mailing lists, but haven't found the answer(*) to the following: When should one specify LazyLoad, LazyData, and ZipData? And what is the default if they are left unspecified? (*)Except that 1) If the package you are writing uses the methods package, specify LazyLoad: yes, and 2) The optional ZipData field controls whether the

particulars of importing/loading libraries
Dear List: Sorry for posting maybe a trivial question, but I have a basic understanding problem. If I have say pack1 and pack2, two R packages, and pack2 depends on and imports pack1 fully (as in the code below), is there a way to make all the functionality of pack1 available for the global and other environments (not only for the functions called from withing pack2) by loading pack2 only? tempdir() containing spaces breaks installing source packages
Hello everyone! Temp paths are used in system2() calls without shQuote() because they are assumed not to contain spaces. On Windows, GetShortPathName() is used to try to ensure that. Unfortunately, sometimes GetShortPathName() silently fails to return a 8.3 file path and gives a full path instead (8.3 file names might be disabled on newer Windows 10 installations, or there may be another

Pre-building lazyload DB
Hi all, Bioconductor has several metaData packages that contain quite large data sets. In the past, these data were simply held in the /data directory of the package as .rda files and load()ed as needed. Converting to using lazy data loading may have memory and performance advantages, but for the larger metaData packages the installation is painfully slow (it has taken > 30 min to install a

error preparing a package for lazy loading with R CMD
Dear Lister, I work with R 2.0.1 and Windows XP, and meet a strange trouble trying to make a R package with a make-package.bat file John Fox has kindly provided (see detailed script below). I am working with it since some months with excellent results (I do'nt use compiled C code so far). Just adding a new function in the R directory today, when running make-package and thus excuting
