R-alpha: R <-> S compatibility; more demos -- using S-plus validate(..) ..
Look at the result of
(in S-plus:)
validate(verbose=TRUE, outfile="......./validate-3.4.out")
which gives (for me, S-plus 3.4 on Solaris 2.5)
2106 Lines of output.
It's full of tests using "standard data sets". (--> 'demos' available!)
Basically, at the end of each example, there are statements which
should return TRUE if the 'validation test' is

'rush of graphs on the screen'
Hello R experts,
When I try e. g. example(plot) in R 1.7.0 on Linux, the example graphs rush
away on the screen before my eyes. How can I see them one at a time?

splinefun gives incorrect derivs when extrapolating to the left (PR#13132)
This is a low priority bug that has been around for a while, but I came acr=
oss it again while alpha testing 2.8.
The resulting function for splinefun gives incorrect deriv values when x is=
less than the smallest x-value used to create the function (at least in on=
e circumstance), but does the correct thing for x greater than the largest =
x-value.
Here is an example:

Detecting DirectX (Fooling an App)
I'm trying to test out Sonar XL 2.2 on wine20040814
(August) on a JDS R2 distro. Whenever I run the
install program for Sonar, it says that it can't
detect DirectX, thus it wants to install it.
I believe with an earlier version of Wine (around the
June timefame), it doesn't do this. Starting with the
August release, there is great DirectSound support
that I want to try.
Is there

Please help : Trying to fool Theora into doing what I want
I'm currently doing research and initial development for an app that
requires a rather odd usage of some kind of movie decoding. I'm trying to
find a codec that I can trick into doing what I want, and so long as I can
fix a problem or two, Theora is looking promising.
What I want to do goes something like this:
1) Encode a whole bunch of two frame movies. For each movie, the

111 FIXMEs in main/src
Hi,
We sometimes see offers to contribute, asking what needs to be done. If
they know C, how about the 111 FIXMEs? But which ones would be most
useful to fix? Which are difficult and which are easy? Does R-core have
a process to list and prioritise the FIXMEs?
