Package development process?
Hello, All: What thoughts might you have on "The R Software Package Development Process"? I'm looking for ideas, materials, references, and / or collaborators for an article on this topic to be submitted to the Communications of the ACM. My limited experience with other languages such as Matlab and Python suggests that R may be fairly unique with CRAN and this

Rprofile.site under Windows 7?
Hello All: I'm still unable to get Rprofile.site to set, e.g., options(max.print=222), as I did with previous versions of R. I just found similar questions posed by Trevor Miles and Ross Bowden with replies by Uwe Ligges and Duncan Murdoch. In addition to the things I tried documented below, I also copied Rprofile.site into "R_HOME/etc/i386" and

non-R package development
Hello, All: What would you recommend for software to support developing software in languages other than R? I'm currently writing code in R to implement algorithms that may ultimately need to run with asynchronous, distributed computing in various languages including Python, Matlab, LabVIEW, vanilla Unix, etc. I routinely use the "R CMD check", etc., process

Reading a specific file during "R CMD check"?
Hello, All: How can I obtain the location of an example data file in a package during "R CMD check"? I want to include sample raw data files in a package and have them read by a function in the package. It occurs to me to put such a file in "\inst\rawdata" and have examples find the data using something like "system.file('rawdata',

R_HOME path getting munged in inst/doc/Makefile on Windows
Hello, I have come across two separate packages that have a Makefile in inst/doc which use the R_HOME variable. In both cases, the path to R_HOME gets munged in such a way that commands that include R_HOME fail on Windows: For example, one Makefile, for the xmapcore package ( https://hedgehog.fhcrc.org/bioconductor/trunk/madman/Rpacks/xmapcore/username/password: readonly) has this:

RFC: Adding GCC C Torture Suite to External Test Suites
TL;DR: I am proposing to add the GCC C Torture suite [1], as an additional external source of tests for the “nightly” test suite. If you are willing to review the patch, it is here: https://reviews.llvm.org/D66887 Background: While working on the RISC-V backend, we have found it useful to use additional test suites beyond the in-tree Clang and LLVM tests and the LLVM nightly tests, in order to

RUnit testing with R CMD check and more (was: R CMD check recursive copy of tests/)
Hello! I have looked at Martin's recent work on "merging" unit tests with R CMD check, fused it with my and Tony's contributions and developed it a bit further. Take a look into the attached demo package on how it works. In essence: PKG/inst/RUnitTests |- runRUnitTests.R (script to run RUnit tests) \- ... (any RUnit test file)

trouble installing building packages from source using R 2.6.0 on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64
I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu Gutsy and, for the first time, am using a 64-bit installation. After failing miserably to install R from source, not a problem for me in the past with a 32-bit install, I went the route of using the Debian Etch build. This went smoothly, but I am unable to update my numerous R and BioConductor packages, getting non-zero exit status errors on each package. Is

On a Windows 10 machine I have, $ sizeof.long : int 4; otherwise the same as on my Mac. ????? Am I correct that $ sizeof.long = 4 means 4 bytes = 32 bits? log2(.Machine$integer.max)

new install hang after "setting hostname"
All, I have a new install. software RAID-1. everything installed normal (2 - 40 GIG IDE drives) After install, reboot and the box starts the graphic boot, then hangs on "setting hostname". After a few minutes it drops out of graphic install and the last thing on the screen is "Checking root filesystem". It then sets there FOREVER. Any ideas? I have already re-installed from

[External] Re: rpois(9, 1e10)
Thanks to Luke and Avi for their comments.? I wrapped "round" around the call to "rnorm" inside my "rpois.".? For "lambda" really big, that "round" won't do anything.? However, it appears to give integers in floating point representation that are larger than .Machine$integer.max.? That sounds very much like what someone would want.?

????? This issue arose for me in simulations to estimate confidence, prediction, and tolerance intervals from glm(., family=poisson) fits embedded in a BMA::bic.glm fit using a simulate.bic.glm function I added to the development version of Ecfun, available at "https://github.com/sbgraves237/Ecfun".? Making iconv portable?
Hello, All: What would it take to make ?iconv? portable? I ask, because I want to convert accented characters to vanilla ASCII, thereby converting, e.g., ?Ra?l? to ?Raul?, and Milan Bouchet-Valet suggested on R-help that I use 'iconv(x, ?", "ASCII//TRANSLIT?)?. This worked under Windows but failed on Linux and Mac. It?s part of the ?subNonStandardCharacters? function

Alternatively, just type debug(optim) before using it, then step through it by hitting enter repeatedly... When you're done, do undebug(optim).
