R with tcl/tk 8.5
Hi List,
Is it possible to tell R to use tcl/tk 8.5?
My R package seems to depend on libtcl8.4.so.
However, in Windows it seems to be possible to set
TCL_LIBRARY and MY_TCLTK.
Is there something similar possible in Linux?
I have installed:
$ rpm -q R
R-2.3.1-1.fc5
$ locate libtcl8
/usr/lib/libtcl8.4.so
/usr/local/lib/libtcl8.5.so

Problem installing R on openSUSE 10.3
Dear All,
I am trying to install R 2.7 on my openSUSE 10.3. I have faithfully followed instruction at http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/suse/ReadMe.txt. I have downloaded all the RPMs but still R complains about:
libtcl8.4.so is needed by R-base-2.7.1-6.1.i586
I searched for this library and found a one, tcl-8.4.15-22.i586.rpm at openSUSE distribution site and installed. But R still complains

Generate 32bit programs on x86_64 architecture?
I'm trying to run purify on CentOS on an Intel Pentium 4/630
processor. Purify does not like the 64bit code. Is there
some way to compile and run programs so that they are
only using the 32 bit model?
I tried gcc -m32 but then the system libraries come
up missing.

R-beta: configure problem (tcltk) on 64 bit Red Hat EL
Dear developeRs,
I use Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 2) on an
x86_64 machine (two Intel P4 CPUs with 64 bit support), and
R-beta_2005-12-12_r36712.tar.gz.
If I run configure without any options, it does not list tcltk among
the supported interfaces:
./configure

R is now configured for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

package for /usr/lib64/R/library/tkrplot/libs/tkrplot.so
Hi,
'revdep-rebuild' under GENTOO shows me
that /usr/lib64/R/library/tkrplot/libs/tkrplot.so, which was installed
at April 24th, is broken.
'ldd /usr/lib64/R/library/tkrplot/libs/tkrplot.so' shows me that
tkrplot.so needs libtcl8.4.so and libtk8.4.so, which is no more
installed since the installation of tcl,tk-8.5.7, which has happened at
april 26th.
But revdep-rebuild can't

devX11.c -- questions about expose events and XBell
Hi, sorry for lumping this together... Both these issues are rather
small, and I'm not sure either qualifies as a bug...
1) After a window id created in X11_Open and mapped, you "gobble the
expose events". Not true, you gobble any event that comes along!
The code below fixes this by using *XCheckTypedEvent*. Hmm, I'm
not sure this right already, but better...

TclTk library loading (whole version) Linux
Hello;
Well, I'm afraid this is the second related problem I report in two days
(I'm sorry for this)
I've programmed a tcltk interface for a model and it includes a
comboBox. The comboBox widget comes with the "BWidgets" library of Tcl/Tk.
It works all perfectly with the windows R GUI (with the help of Prof.
B. Ripley), following the advices in ?Startup, but I would like

Tcl socket server (tcltk) does not work any more on R 4.3.2
Dear list,
It seems that something changed between R 4.2.3 and R 4.3 (tested with 4.3.2) that broke the Tcl socket server. Here is a reproducible example:
- R process #1 (Tcl socket server):
library(tcltk)
cmd <- r"(
proc accept {chan addr port} { ;# Make a proc to accept connections
puts "$addr:$port says [gets $chan]" ;# Receive a string
puts $chan goodbye

Installing R on Red Hat Linux, Tcl/Tk
Hi,
I've been trying to install R on Red Hat Linux 9 for some
potential users of my R/TclTk application. I tried using the
rpm for R 1.7.1 for Red Hat Linux 9. It told me that I needed:
libtcl8.3.so
so I looked for a binary release of Tcl 8.3.x on
http://www.tcl.tk/software/tcltk/8.3.html
but found that the link to the Tcl 8.3.x binaries pointed to
ActiveTcl 8.4.x . I couldn't see

Crash when embedding R X11 windows
Dear R developers,
I've been experimenting with embedding R X11 windows into another application
using KDE's QXEmbed on linux. Attempting to do so will crash R (with R 2.4.0,
trunk, and I know the bug has been around in prior versions). I used to think
this was related to bug #848, but I'm not sure, if / how the solution
suggested there still applies to current versions of R.

64bit build on IBM
I am trying to build R with 64bit support so I can access more than
2GB of memory on an IBM running AIX. (IBM NightHawk II RS/6000 node with 16
64-bit, 375-MHz POWER3 CPUs and 32 GB of memory, if you want specifics)
The 32bit install required little tweaking, but the 64 bit is sufficiently
complicated that I thought I would report my findings here and ask for
help with the latest (and hopefully

parallel::mc*: Is it possible for a child process to know it is a fork?
When using multicore-forking of the parallel package, is it possible
for a child process to know that it is a fork? Something like:
parallel::mclapply(1:10, FUN = function(i) { test_if_running_in_a_fork() })
I'm looking into ways to protect against further parallel processes
(including threads), which not necessarily are created via the
parallel:mc* API, are being spawned off recursively.
