Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1)
First I tried 'setenv R_SHELL /usr/local/bin/bash', as bash is the weapon
of choice for the faculty wishing to use R, then ran ./configure as before.
The ./configure output line
using as R_SHELL for scripts ... /usr/local/bin/bash
would seem to indicate that the R_SHELL environment variable was recognized
and acknowledged. However, I got the same build error:

Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1) system
Hello,
I am trying to build the R-2.11.1 software for university faculty to use in
research projects on a DEC/Compaq/HP AlphaServer model GS160 16CPU/64GB memory
running Tru64Unix aka OSF1 version 5.1B-5.
Is it known whether it is possible to build the R-2.11.1 software on the
platform I am using?
In my attempts to build the R-2.11.1 software, I first used the native C
and Fortran 77/90/95

Lack of consistent cross-platform behaviour of tools:::buildVignettes()
Hi,
On both Unix and Windows there is a mechanism to add variables
to the environment when R is started. I noticed that, on Unix,
this mechanism is not used when R is started normally at the
command line but only when it's started using the 'R CMD' syntax.
One problem with this is some lack of consistent cross-platform
behaviour. For example:
On Linux:
$ echo $TEXINPUTS

RCMD fails in Windows XP
I have setup R 1.9.1 on my Dell laptop running windows XP. I have
installed it to C:\R\rw1091. Rgui runs fine, but Rcmd fails if run with
parameters (i.e. install). The windows dialog box cheerfully says "R for
Windows front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." Running the visual C++ debugger informs me
that there is an unhandled

Problem with "R CMD Rd2dvi": Rd.sty not found
Hi,
I run into a problem with "R CMD Rd2dvi" command: it gives me "File `Rd.sty'
not found" error (See the output message on the bottom). I get the same
error when running "RCMD check". My system is: Windows 2000, R version
2.0.1, MiKTeX version 2.4. I do have a Rd.sty file in R_HOME/share/texm
directory.
I looked through newsgroups for any related discussions

running 'make' failed during vignette creation ('R CMD build') on Windows
Hi,
This is a follow-up to the problem reported here:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2010-September/058460.html
After I updated R-2.12 to 2010-09-13 r52905 on the Bioc build system,
some of the packages that have a Makefile in <pkg>/inst/doc still
don't build on Windows. For example, 'R\bin\R.exe CMD build adSplit'
gives:

The Environment variables settings in bin/R, why do they ignore environment variables of the same name?
Hello,
In installation/R/bin/R i notice
1. R_HOME_DIR is hard coded e.g.
R_HOME_DIR=/usr/local/lib64/R
2. It ignores R_HOME_DIR
echo "WARNING: ignoring environment value of R_HOME"
3. R_SHARE_DIR, R_INCLUDE_DIR and R_DOC_DIR are also hard coded.
Is there a reason why these settings do not read the values from the
environment variables of the same name (assuming they exist) and

Perl Module Question
To safely make Perl modules from CPAN in Solaris, I used this procedure:
mkdir /opt/cpan
chmod 777 /opt/cpan
chown joe:101 /opt/cpan
PERL5LIB=$PERL5LIB:/opt/cpan
export PERL5LIB
/usr/perl5/bin/perlgcc -MCPAN -e shell
Also, ~/.cpan/CPAN/MyConfig.pm specifically had
'makepl_arg' => q[LIB=/opt/cpan PREFIX=/opt/cpan INSTALLMAN3DIR=/opt/cpan/man/man3],
Does this make sense in CentOS as

You may want to retry that after a make distclean, in case anything changed in the toolchain.

texi2pdf texinputs arguments
Dear All
I am trying to specify the output directory and the directory for the
log files (the same) for texi2dvi.
The default for my windows computer is C:\Users\...\Documents which I
do not want.
The help guide:

and bibtex input search paths.
is a little cryptic for me this morning
I have tried

I encountered some things trying to build own packages under Windows

r-base build: failure to convert R-FAQ to pdf
We have received an email in Ubuntu alerting us that something strange was
going on during the r-base 2.7.1 rc build (see [1]).
It seems that there is an error during the convertion of R-FAQ.texi to pdf.
The following excerpt, taken from [2], shows the problem:

R and Web Applications
Hello,
I'm curious to know how people are calling R from web applications (I've
been looking for Perl but I'm open to other languages). After doing a
search, I came across the R package "RSPerl", but I'm having difficulties
getting it installed (on Mac OSX). I believe the problem probably has to do
with changes in R since the package release. Below you will see where

error in building R-1.9.0 sources under Win32
I am trying to compile the R-dev sources on WinXP using mingw 3.1.0-1

have been able to build the sources fine but now I receive an error in
the process that I havent seen reported on the list before. Everything
works fine until I get to 'make docs'. I now get the message below while
building the R-admin manual (refman.pdf builds fine) and the make
