PXE looping on localboot
I have seen posts about this problem, but have had trouble finding how/if it was resolved. I am trying to upgrade from syslinux-3.11 to syslinux-3.86 on RHEL5. On 3.86, when it performs a local boot from hard disk, it just keeps looping back into PXE boot again instead of booting from the hard disk. It will perform a system install just fine, but when it switches to localboot after the install,

Custom Puppet CA?
Can someone, anyone, help me understand what it takes -- if indeed it''s even possible -- to use a custom CA with puppetmasterd. Such that, for every client it signs, the cert for that client actually says something meaningful about my organization, and was ultimately signed by our own root CA. I made a valid sub-CA for my puppet server, signed by my organization''s root CA. I

Dual NVidia cards, dual monitors
I've just installed CentOS 6.2 on an HP xw8600 with two NVidia GeForce 8800 GT video cards in it. I have two Dell monitors than ran configured as a single contiguous desktop when this was a Windows 7 machine. I've only been able to access one of the two monitors under CentOS, although the system demonstrates some awareness of the second GPU/monitor, because the second monitor shows the

wpa_supplicant and wi
I am using a Netgear MA401 with the wi driver, and am having trouble using wpa_supplicant to set static WEP keys. I have the wlan_wep.ko module loaded with wlan and wi built into the kernel. My wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this: ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant ctrl_interface_group=wheel network={ ssid="INTERNERD" scan_ssid=1 priority=1 key_mgmt=NONE

getting all pairwise combinations of elements in a character string
I'm able to do this as follows, but am wondering if anyone knows a simpler way which still avoids explicit loops? > (mystring <- letters[1:5]) [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "e" > unlist(sapply(mystring[-length(mystring)], + function(x) paste(x,mystring[(grep(x,mystring)+1):length(mystring)],sep=""))) a1 a2 a3

difference between the meaning of MARGIN in sweep() and apply()
For example, subtracting 1:2 from the rows of a two-column matrix: > t(apply(matrix(1:6,ncol=2),MARGIN=1,function(y) y - 1:2)) [,1] [,2] [1,] 0 2 [2,] 1 3 [3,] 2 4 > sweep(matrix(1:6,ncol=2),MARGIN=2,1:2,FUN="-") [,1] [,2] [1,] 0 2 [2,] 1 3 [3,] 2 4 Is there a logic to this difference, or is it just a quirk of the history of these

[LLVMdev] GCC_4.2.0 problem
Hi, I have seen the bug http://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=896 Maybe it is a non-issue but I had some trouble with this. I am running Debian sid and were no longer able to compile llvm. /home/fred/llvm/build/gcc/xgcc: /home/fred/llvm/build/gcc/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6) The installed version have this symbol. strings

setting par(srt) according to plot aspect ratio
How can I look up the aspect ratio of a plot, so I can use that to correctly adjust the angle of text which is supposed to be parallel to a line in the plot? The following example code works for a 1:1 aspect ratio, but puts the text at the wrong angle if the plot region is short and wide or tall and narrow. I can't find a par() component containing the plot aspect ratio. It will be for

breaking ties in order() based on many vectors
The order() function allows you to specify multiple vectors, which are used successively to break ties. If I want to use many vectors to break ties (say, 25 or more), that are columns of a matrix or elements of a list, does anyone know a shortcut to do this without passing 25 arguments to order()? -- Levi Waldron post-doctoral fellow Jurisica Lab, Ontario Cancer Institute Division of Signaling

Problem with "force create mode" et. al.
Hi, folks. I've got a weird situation here. I'm sure it's something small, but, well, either I've been cursed by a witch doctor, or my eyesight is getting too bad to find small problems. Either way, I'm more than willing to be pummeled for asking such a stupid question, as long as it helps me get it solved. I'm replacing an NT file server with a Samba box (hooray!).

NVIDIA driver / internal modem irq conflict
Hi, I'm having trouble with an IRQ conflict I can't figure out how to resolve. I tried KDE (which is great), but this required the NVIDIA driver. However, this driver conflicts with my modem. If the driver is loaded, then the system locks up when accessing the modem. If I remove the NVIDIA driver from /boot/loader.conf, modem works fine. I tried moving the modem to different slots, but

multiple annotations on a heatmap
Can someone recommend a more sophisticated way to annotate heatmaps than the ColSideColors argument of heatmap and heatmap.2? In particular, I would like to be able to annotate columns with more than one piece of information, like in Figure 1 of the article at http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/fulltext/117905619/HTMLSTART / doi:10.1002/hep.22256. Some example data and a heatmap:

package gsl assumes incorrect gcc version during install (PR#10451)
Full_Name: Levi Waldron Version: 2.5.1 OS: Ubuntu Gutsy Submission from: (NULL) (206.248.157.88) I installed libgsl0-dev then tried to install the gsl cran package, unsuccessfully (see output below). As a workaround I created a symbolic link to /usr/bin/gcc-4.2, ie: sudo ln -s /usr/bin/gcc-4.1 /usr/bin/gcc-4.2 The correct behavior of the gsl package should be to use the executable

[LLVMdev] need help on llvm support for Chapel
Hello, I don't know if anyone gets familiar with the llvm Chapel front end, it's version 3.3 and comes within Chapel source package. I'm trying to parse the .bc code generated from a simple helloworld chapel program. Just run a basic Hello pass on the code (default one in the llvm source code) that prints out all the function names in the module. However, it prints a bunch of
