Work with packages without using R CMD build/install
Hello,
for my small project I would like to organize the data, functions and
documentation as a package.
I have already created a skeleton directory structure with DESCRIPTION file
and put some files in the R, man and data subdirectories.
Now I would like to work on the package without calling R CMD build/install
after each change. In fact, I do not have the build tools installed yet (I

how to use debug.mypkg
Dear all,
The package "affy" has the following statement in file "AffyBatch.R":
if (debug.affy123) cat("-->initAffyBatch\n")
This is great and I would also like to use it. However, when I run my
package
I get the following error:

Compiler options for Makefile.win
Dear all,
For certain reasons I have to compile the source code of my package on
Windows XP using Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0, thus I had to create a
"Makefile.win". Now I have a question regarding compiler options /MT vs
/MD for Makefile.win.
The following partial output shows that when building my package on
Windows XP using "R CMD build --binary xps" with compiler

llvm-link: Missing Dwarf DIE references
I am experiencing an issue combining bitcode files for the purpose of generating the combined bitcodes as a single bitcode file. I would like to have any pointers to help me debug this or maybe it has been seen before and a fix is either being worked on or is done.
I am using the Xcode 9.0 compiler. I believe the Swift code is 3.x. I have reproduced this using the tot llvm-link.

GNU tar does not ignore files in .Rbuildignore (PR#1339)
Full_Name: David O. Nelson
Version: 1.4.1
OS: solaris 2.7

Putting patterns in .Rbuildignore has no effect when the tar being used is gnu
tar (1.13) on solaris 2.7, whilst /usr/sbin/tar works perfectly.

Evaluate values in `Sys.setenv`
Hi all,
I would like to know if there is any way to evaluate the values in
`Sys.setenv` before setting the environment variables. For example, if we
want to add a path to the environment variable `PATH`, we can do this in a
terminal
```
> export PATH=~/mypath:$PATH
> echo $PATH
/Users/jeff/mypath:...
```
However, this style of assignment is not allowed in `Sys.setenv`, it
treats its

Hi,
I have a S3 package with namespace called "myS3Pkg". Inside my package I would like to create
a S4 class which extends (adds 2 slots) another S4 class from some other package. The class
should be created in "myPkg" environment (and not global environment).
Using:

how to create help files
Dear R users,
this is a question for R version 1.2.0 under Windows NT 4.0, regarding the
documentation of ones own functions.
I have ceated a private library for my functions, which works all very well,
apart from that I am not able to create appropriate help files.
For illustration, here is a simple example of where I'm stuck:

problem building a package with C code (PR#13572)
Hi, my name is Paula. Im trying to learn how to build an R package in
Windows XP using a simple example which includes a C source code. The
foo.c file is located in mypkg/src/foo.c.
I used the command Rcmd build --force --binary [pkgpath]. The problem is
when I install the zip file in R the function foo doesn?t exist.
The result a recieved during the building process is copied below.

Newbie creating package with compiled code
Hi R Gurus!
I'm trying to create a test package using the package.skeleton function.
I wanted to add some compiled code too.
In the src library, I put together a baby subroutine, compiled it and created
a test.dll
When I use the R cmd build, it works fine. But I get into trouble
with the R CMD check section.
/home/Desktop/R-2.5.1/bin # ./R CMD check mypkg

timings for examples in R CMD check
I'm having a very hard time making R CMD check produce a clean check on
examples because of the timings inserted into examples by R CMD check.
I am getting a difference on every example output caused by timing
information being inserted by 'R CMD check'.
The current 'Writing R Extensions' manual[1] states on p. 14:

Creating a R package for Windows XP
Hi:
I'm trying to create a package to pass to someone else to use a group of
functions with help files. I'm working on Windows XP.
Step One: I use the example

Combining all possible values of variables into a new...
I'm trying to create a new column in my data.frame where subjects are categorized depending on values on four other columns. In any other case I would just nest a few ifelse statements, however, in this case i have 4*6*2*3=144 combinations and i get weird 'context overflow' errors. So I wonder if there is a more efficient way of doing this.
For illustrational purposes, let's say

Hello,
I?m hoping you have a few minutes to help out someone very new to R. I?ve
done some searching, but cannot find this particular issue.
I have survey data from two different time periods (years). Both years are
stratified samples and have the same variables (and variable names), but are
different people in the community answering in the different years.
Everything loads into the survey

LTO renaming of constants with inline assembly
I still wonder if this would be an issue in _standard_ (not thin) LTO?
This test seems to be OK on my (slightly modified) standard LTO flow, but I do wonder for a more general case.

2.2.5, recycle: %U is ok, %u is not
Linux Red Hat 6.x
Using
name = <mypath>/%U
in recycle.conf is ok, while using
name = <mypath>/%u
produces a dir
<mypath>/%u/deleted.item
I need to use %u since %U is before smbusers mapping.
Do you get the same behavior?
Thanks

Is it my fault, or is it a bug?

Required Packages etiquette
Dear friends,
I am writing a package that I think may be of interest to many people so I
am in the process to build-check-write-thedocumentation for it.
I have some questions regarding the "rules" that a package
should abide in order to be consistent with the other packages on CRAN.
I have read and reread the Writing R extension manual and googled the
mailing list and I have found
