building source package in R run within Emacs under Windows.
Dear R-devel, I installed R-2.9.1 on the 'y:' drive which happens to be mounted to an IBRIX file system. I also downloaded and installed the Rtools bundle recommended for 2.9x. When I build a source package launching R via RGui.exe it seems to work fine: ## setting path according to "Appendix E The Windows toolset" >

crash in library(gbm) was: Rscript temp file
The crashes turned out to have nothing to do with the temp files. They seem to be caused by loading library(gbm). That is when many R sessions nearly simultaneously load the library R crashes with the message "The instruction at '0x63422398' referenced memory at '0x63422398'. The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of

issue on fedora21 with libvirt-1.2.13 and 1.2.14 - containers won't start at all
Hi there I am using fedora21 for hosts and guests, using lxc containers, and was on vanilla 1.2.9 as exposed by the fedora yum repo The other day I was needing the ability to grant mknod capability to some guests, some chap on IRC kindly pointed me at the <capabilities> tag However I was told that needed 1.2.11 So I went and rebuilt from this download

Rscript temp file
Hi, It seems that Rscript creates a temporary file to store the commands passed with the -e option, under normal circumstances the temp file gets deleted at some point. Here is an example of a call I use: q:/R/R-2.6.1/bin/Rscript.exe -e ".libPaths(\"q:/R/vogranovich/library\"); params <- list(a=1); source(foo)" The temp files seem to be a problem when multiple jobs are

Rendering farm?
I received at least one email suggesting a Windows-based rendering farm - likely to consist of a few rack systems all running 64-bit Windows. I read an article on Tomshardware which gave some decent insight. What can list participants offer on this concept? I don't care _how_ the resource is implemented - virtual machine, cluster, etc. I just want to get the most resources for the money,

cannot create a new volume with a brick that used to be part of a deleted volume?
Greetings, I'm running v3.3.0 on Fedora16-x86_64. I used to have a replicated volume on two bricks. This morning I deleted it successfully: ######## [root at farm-ljf0 ~]# gluster volume stop gv0 Stopping volume will make its data inaccessible. Do you want to continue? (y/n) y Stopping volume gv0 has been successful [root at farm-ljf0 ~]# gluster volume delete gv0 Deleting volume will erase

abbreviate or wrap dimname labels
For a variety of displays (mosaicplots, barplots, ...) one often wants to either abbreviate or wrap long labels, particularly when these are made up of several words. In general, it would be nice to have a function, abbreviate.or.wrap <- function(x, maxlength=10, maxlines=2, split=" ") { } that would take a character vector or a list of vectors, x, and try to abbreviate or wrap

Fwd: User defined panel functions in lattice
Hi ilai Thank you for your suggestions. I do not know what happened yesterday I must have omitted a few changes out in going from R to email and apologies for the double posting - I had troubles sending it as my ISP gave a message of not being connected for email but was for the web I was trying to get panel.Locfit to work in a number of situations. 1. xenoprof patch for oprofile-0.9.7
I am rebasing Fedora rawhide oprofile package to oprofile-0.9.7. The xenoprof patches on http://xenoprof.sourceforge.net/#download look a bit dated. The newest version is for oprofile-0.9.5. I massaged the patch oprofile-0.9.5-xen.patch to apply to oprofile-.0.9.7. Attached is that updated patch. Does this look reasonable? Is there a desire to get this into upstream oprofile? Or should the

glmmPQL questions
I am looking a risk factors for disease in cattle and am interested in modelling farm and sampling cluster as random effects (My outcome is positive or negative at the level of the farm). I am using R version 2.0.1 on a Mac and have identified glmmPQL as hopefully the correct function to use. I have run a couple of models using this but was hoping that you might be able to answer a few questions.

Mountain ahead of me!
Dear All, Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have been presented with a massive task. I'm not an asterisk expert, but I do know my way around a linux server and infrastructure, and I know when things are not done correctly. A large number of minutes are routed every month, (1m+) and I wish to do this in the most efficient way possible. I've been presented with three linux

mystery "158"
This is a simple problem, but a mystery to me. I'm trying to grab $Family "Scelionidae" from one dataframe and put it into another dataframe occupied with NA in $Family. The result is a "158" ends up there instead of Scelionidae. Simply put fam$Family[1] <- least$Family[1] If I have made a mistake here, can somebody point it out. I've included the simple

RSQLite problems
Hi, I'm experimenting with using (R)SQLite to do data management. Here are two little problems that I've encountered: 1. The presence of ',' in string values causes trouble since ',' is also the delimiter used in the SQL statement. 2. A newline '\n' line attached to the last string value of each row. Some examples: > library (RSQLite) Loading required

two questions about ssh tunneling
if I: ssh -fND localhost:6000 somebody at 192.168.56.5 -p PORTNUMBER from computer "A" to computer "B" [B = 192.168.56.5] then I can set the SOCKS proxy for e.g.: Firefox to use "localhost:6000" on computer "A". Ok. I can surf the web through "B". But: - Can anyone sniff the traffic of "A"? [e.g.: computers on same subnet as
