Compile Packages on vista
Hi I''m trying to compile R packages on my vista (I''m very new on vista...). I installed Rtools, RExcel on a specific folder: c:\Rtools and gave full access. Unfortunately, I am still unable to compile any packages (may be still because of the security properties of vista). I checked several mailing list/forums/website but I did not found any solution. Does anybody have the

deleting a directory
Hi, all, I'm looking a utility for removing a directory from within R. Currently, I'm using: foo <- function(...) { mydir <- tempdir() dir.create(mydir, showWarnings = FALSE, recursive = TRUE) on.exit(system(sprintf("rm -rf %s", mydir))) ## do some stuff in "mydir" invisible() } However, this is assumes "rm" is available. Why is bubbles() creating empty png graphs?
This code below produces empty XXX.png files - if I use plot(), it works and if I enter the commands png(filename=fn) bubble(positions, do.sqrt=FALSE, main=q) dev.off() manually, it works as well. I am lost - any help appreciated. The weird thing is that it worked before I made some changes... (I don't have a copy of the working version...). R version: platform i686-pc-linux-gnu arch

R's internal tar ignores files in sub-directories
E.g. I am seeing: dir <- file.path(tempdir(), "test-tar") dir.create(dir) setwd(dir) dir.create("foo", showWarnings = FALSE) file.create("foo/bar.R") tar("test.tar", files = "foo/bar.R") dir.create("untarred") untar("test.tar", exdir = "untarred")

unlink() on "~" removes the home directory
!!! DON'T TRY THE CODE IN THIS EMAIL AT HOME !!! Well, unlink() does what it is supposed to do, so you could argue that there is nothing wrong with it. Also, nobody would call unlink() on "~", right? The situation is not so simple, however. E.g. if you happen to have a directory called "~", and you iterate over all files and directories to selectively remove some of them,

r-2.13 fails make check
I am only reporting this because it is the current release branch and not devel. R-2.13 from svn revision 55957 builds fine, but fails make check. This happened with a fresh svn checkout 12 hours ago and it still happens as of now. Two days ago I could build R-2.13 and it passed make check on the same system, so I doubt it is a system problem. But just in case my system details are a fresh

what folder to run write_PACKAGES in?
I set up a local repo for testing packages. My packages are not showing up from the repository when viewed by Linux clients. I suspect this is a web administrator/firewall issue, but it could be I created the repo wrongly. I am supposed to run write_PACKAGES separately in each R-version folder. Right? Maybe other novices can use these scripts, if they are not wrong :) Here's the file

Checking existance of a directory
Hi all, I am wondering is there any way to check whether some Directory exists or not, given the parent path of that directory? After searching for a while I found that there is a function dir.create() to create some directory. However I need to know whether such directory already exists or not, otherwise I will create that.   Thanks, [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Bug: argument 'lib.loc' not passed on appropriately in 'library()'?
Dear list, I'm experimenting with setting up custom 'lib' and 'destdir' directories for my R packages. It seems to me that 'library()' does handle a custom 'lib.loc' argument the way it should for an arbitrary package but NOT for its dependencies on other packages. The latter are looked for in the default lib path (~/R/R-2.x.x/library) and NOT in the custom

mixed csv and csv2
Dear all, I have a huge problem after downloading and exporting data from Reuters3000 XTra: I downloaded many many monthly, quarterly and yearly data. I do not know why, but after saving, I have mixed-data sets, i.e. files which can be imported as “read.csv” and others that are in the format of “read.csv2”. Sure I could change them, but normally it should be possible to mix them… For

unlink() on "~" removes the home directory
To clarify, these issues are about deleting the contents of the home directory, not the directory itself, which cannot be deleted by ordinary users on today's systems. Unfortunately this has to be fixed in the code that calls unlink(), such code must be aware of the expansions. The "R CMD build" case as you write has been fixed, if anyone finds any other instance of this problem

Problem with dir.create in windows servers
Hello. I've being having problems to create directories in a windows server environment . It seems that the recursive argument is not working properly on the intranet, as it does in a local path. For example: > dir.create("\\\\server/directory1/directory2") , this works fine, and creates the directory2, but If we want to create the directory3 and another directory called
