x11() and Xinerama settings
Hello
Since I changed my X11 settings to a Xinerama setup, calls to x11() result in
windows with a width half the size of the one specified by the corresponding
parameter. Furthermore, x axis labels are overlapping. Other devices (e.g.
pdf()), are not affected by these distortions.
Did anybody have the same problem, and if so, how did you solve it? ( I'm
using openSUSE 10.3 on a x86

dual head question

Bonjour,
I have two monitors and an nvidia graphic card. I uses the nvidia
proprietary driver from rpmfusion and have configured the system to
use the twinview option.
I need to load an icc profile for each screen (they are not exactly
the same) and this seems to be impossible under this configuration....
Am I right?
So I changed my config:

Dual Monitor setup on CentOS 6?
Hi.
Is anyone here running CentOS 6 with dual monitors configured as a
single X Screen?
I'm trying such a setup on version 5 (again), using NVIDIA TwinView, and
it works in many ways, but there are a number of problems that means
it's not too usable - the most important one being that there appears to
be no way to control which of the displays new applications/windows will
appear

adjusting y axis labels in lattice plots?
Are there parameters that would allow adjusting y axis labels in lattice
plots? E.g in the following simple example
require(lattice)
xyplot(rnorm(10) ~ 1:10, scales=list(alternating=2))
it would be nice to have the y axis labels adjusted to the right or at the
decimal point instead of left adjustment.

Problems with Steam Games (possible others?)
Hello, I've tried a few Steam games, and played them for a bit, but I
have a few problems:
1) Because I run dual monitors, normal full screen games will not
work. Furthermore, full screen games with a virtual desktop go in a
800x600 window and will not resize, so I have to play the games in a
window in a virtual desktop. This is relatively minor and I can live
with it, but it anyone has a

call lattice function in a function passing "groups" argument
I'm trying to use a lattice function within a function and have problems
passing the "groups" argument properly. Let's say I have a data frame
d <- data.frame(x = rnorm(100), y = c("a", "b"))
and want to plot variable x in a densityplot, grouped by the variable y, then
I would do something like
densityplot(~ x, d, groups = y)

4 monitors with one graphics card and standard driver
I've just test an ATI FirePro 2460 graphics card on CentOS 6.4. It
connects 4 monitors.
It worked with the standard radeon driver. I was able to arrange the
monitors into my
preferred configuration (as a square array, 1 upper left, 2 lower left, 3
lower right, 4
upper right) simply by clicking System -> Preferences -> Display, and then
moving the
four monitor images. This creates the

How to display laptop screen on LCD TV?
Hi,
I am running CentOS 5.2 on Acer laptop, I try to display laptop screen
on a LCD TV via VGA cable. It was fine while PC was booting in text
mode, but as soon as I started X Window, the LCD TV has error
"Unsupported signal, adjust your PC out".
How can I adjust or may be regenerate an xorg.conf for the LCD TV
(Sony KDL-40V5500)?
Thank you.
Kind Regards,

R started in terminal shell script or ESS steps on LD_LIBRARY_PATH?
Hi all,
Just noted this behavior in the past couple of days, where if R is
started in a shell script such as:
gnome-terminal [-e][-x] R
or in ESS (version 5.2.12 with Emacs or XEmacs), the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
environment variable is not properly appended to, resulting in the loss
of the pre-start value.
This is using R Version 2.2.1 Patched (2006-02-28 r37448) on FC4.
I noted this when

Wine/WoW not detecting monitor hz
WoW detects my monitor hz as 77, 78, 79. 80, 81, 82
but not 60hz which it should be!
This causes a lot of tearing which can be annoying. Is there any way of fixing this?

Multihead related issues
First, there are two fundamentally diffrent types of doing multihead:
The "one big screen" solution, usually achieved with xinerama ,
twinview or similar. This provides us with one Screen, and therefor
one CompScreen structure. The output extens are retrieved from
xinerama, or possibly randr (in the future?), I would assume.
Then there is the less used "multiscreen" way, which

Install XGL under CentOS 5 with ATI X600 and dual-head configuration
Hi again.
I've got a laptop with an ATI X600 inside, perfectly working xorg with
dual head configuration, 2 desktops (without xinerama).
I've got 2 xorg.conf files, one for propietary ATI (fglrx) driver, and
other to use the open source driver. The difference is very notorious.
The problem I have is that I read (Saint Google) that to work with
compiz/beryl and dual-head configuration, I

Super Pro 9.4 / USAF question
Hi all!
I tried to install and run Jane's USAF and Super Pro 9.4 with no luck. The game installs fine, but I cannot make it work under Linux (P-IV 2.5 + 1Gb RAM + NVidia 440Go (64Mb) with Ubuntu 9.10 + Wine 1.1.35 + NVidia 96.43.13). The game runs fine in this very same computer under Windows XP, and my computer exceeds by far the game's requirements.
The original program (Jane's USAF)

Minimizing WoW - Painfully low FPS
I can play WoW perfectly, it is 100% stable and I can get great fps.
One problem though, when I minimize the game and I maximize it, sometimes I can just keep playing happily but sometimes thats not the case. I minimize it, maximize it again and the FPS drops to about 10-20fps (anywhere).
As you might know, this is VERY annoying, I've tried changing loads of settings in-game with no help.

More CentOS5 nVidia fun
In the vein of the "Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024" and
"Another CentOS 5 oddity..." threads, I just installed CentOS5 w/Xen
kernel on a Sony VAIO desktop with an nVidia NV5M64 (RIVA TNT2 64 Pro)
card, using an old Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor.
system-config-display chose the highest possible resolution for the
monitor and Xorg did its best to drive it, but

package grid: mirror grob objects along an axis
Hi everyone
I'd like to flip grobs (grid graphical objects) along an axis, e.g. flip grobs
horizontally or vertically. I couldn't find any hints, neither in the
documentation nor by searching the web. Does anybody know how to achieve this?
Cheers

arrangement of crowded labels
Dear R users
I'm looking for algorithms that assist in spreading out crowded labels, e.g.
labels of points in a scatter plot, in order to obtain a nicer visual
appearance and better legibility.
I'm probably just stuck because I didn't find the right key words for a
successful search on the R websites or in the mailing list archives.
Any hints are appreciated.

lattice: horizontal alignment of labels in key
Dear R users
I have problems horizontally aligning labels in keys of lattice plots when the
labels make use of plotmath. Here's a self-contained example:
dat <- data.frame(x = rnorm(10),
y = rnorm(10),
z = factor(rep(c("a", "b"), each = 5)))
xyplot(y ~ x, dat, groups = z,
auto.key = list(columns = 2,
