(PR#9896) read.spss converts string variables with value
There is nothing we can do to reproduce this without an example 'some.sav' file exhibiting the problem. Can you please supply one? Patches for CVE-2024-27322
Dear R-core, I just received notification of CVE-2024-27322 [1] in RedHat's Bugzilla. We updated R to v4.4.0 in Fedora rawhide, F40, EPEL9 and EPEL8, so no problem there. However, F38 and F39 will stay at v4.3.3, and I was wondering if there's a specific patch available, or if you could point me to the commits that fixed the issue, so that we can cherry-pick them for F38 and F39. Thanks.

Stepwise logistic discrimination - II
I apologise for writing again about the problem with using stepAIC + multinom, but I think the reason why I had it in the first place is perhaps there may be a bug in either stepAIC or multinom. Just to repeat the problem, I have 126 variables and 99 cases. I don't know if the large number of variables could be the problem. Of couse the reason for doing a stepwise method is to reduce this

RStudio package maintenance moved to Copr
Dear all, With the latest release of RStudio last week (v2024.09.0+375), support for Qt builds has been removed. This means that we can no longer maintain RStudio packages in the official Fedora repositories, because the necessary Electron component is missing. RStudio is supported in the official repositories up to v2024.04.2+764 and F40, and has been retired from newer branches. Consequently,

RStudio package maintenance moved to Copr
Many thanks I?aki. Will Quarto get pulled in from your COPR automatically as well or do we need to specifically install it before/after? Also is it worth updating the "add ons" section at https://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/fedora/ as well? Repeated factor levels - inconsistency of factor and levels<- functions?
Hello, I have a vector x containing letters ("a", "b" etc.). Now I want to convert it to factor and group some letters into one common level. If I do it by factor function, giving the same label names for all values I want to group, it doesn't work: > x<-letters[1:5] > x [1] "a" "b" "c" "d" "e" >

Can compressed music sound better than uncompressed?
I quote from "Principles of Digital Audio" by Ken C. Pohlmann: "Because perceptual coders tailor the coded signal to the ear's acuity, they similarly tailor the required response of the playback system itself. Live music does not pass through amplifiers and loudspeakers, it goes directly to the ear. But recorded music must pass through the playback signal chain. Much of the

RH8.0 kernel lockup with PXELinux on x440
Howdy. We've got a couple IBM x440 (Summit) 8-way Xeon systems that I've been trying to get netbooting for a while. Since we use Kickstart and SystemImager to load OSes on our systems, a system has to be able to netboot before it can be made available to folks for project use. System BIOS is the current one, v1.08. They're booting from a planar BroadCom Tigon3 adapter. BIOS
