R-2.4.0 and MS Vista OS - installing packages
I have installed Microsoft Vista Release Candidate 1, and R-2.4.0, on a 4
year old DELL box with a 2.26 GHz P4 and 1 gig. It was a clean install ? R
is the only non-MS program running.
I cannot install packages from CRAN, nor from local zipped files. (I have
R-2.4.0 installed on a Windows XP machine and have had no problems so the
difficulty seems to be Vista not R, however they aren't

Converting plots to ggplot2
Hello Hadley,
I am trying to reproduce the following with ggplot:
a <- seq(0, 360, 5)*pi/180 ; a
ac <- sin(a + (45*pi/180)) + 1 ; ac
plot(a, ac, type='b', xaxt = "n")
axis(1, at=seq(0,6,1), labels=round(seq(0,6,1)*180/pi),1)
abline(v=c(45*pi/180, 225*pi/180))
I can get the basic plot:
p <- qplot(a, ac, geom=c('point', 'line')) ;

active pdf/annotated visualization RFC
How can R users take advantage of the "active PDF" paradigm
for annotation of statistical graphics? The basic objective
is to take a small number of locations on a graph and
hyperlink them -- add persistent information to the pdf
rendering of the graph so that when the user clicks
on the location, a browser is (started if necessary and) pointed
to a URL specified by the persistent

installing packages and windows vista
I installed R (R-2.4.1-win32.exe) on a new computer with Windows Vista
and a 64 bit operating system (hp dv9000 with intel core t7200). The
base R runs fine, but I can not get any of the packages to load. From
within R I choose install packages choose a site then a package. I
tried installing 2 packages and get similar errors (see below), I just
copied and pasted lines from R.

comparative rendering of modeling outputs
This note is to r-devel rather than r-announce because it
notes an experimental package that addresses issues that
intersect with broader developmental issues in R.
I have posted the package
cremo = Comparative REndering of Modeling Outputs
for retrival at
http://www.biostat.harvard.edu/~carey/cremo.html
This package addresses the problem of assembling and

Name conflict between Epi and ROC packages
The name conflicts in Epi and ROC packages (2 'ROC' functions are the
problem) cause the following code
to work once, but not twice:
library(MASS); data(cats);
x = cats[,2]
y = ifelse(cats[,1]=='F',0,1)
library(Epi); ROC(x,y,grid=0)$AUC
library(ROC); AUC(rocdemo.sca(y, x, dxrule.sca))
What is the standard way of resolving name conflicts? Ask maintainers to

samba printing problems
Hi
After struggling with this for a couple of days it's time to ask for help.
We have two samba servers one is on Solaris 8 running Version 2.2.8a
and one on Solaris 10 running Version 3.0.28
I am having a problem with samba printing from the Solaris 10 samba
server. I can print from the machine itself using lpr directly. I
can print from a windows machine using lpr printing to that server

Using openssh 3.1p1 on Solaris with tcp wrappers 7.6
Dear Open SSH and TCP Wrappers Colleagues,
We are trying to use open ssh 3.1p1 on SPARC platforms
under Solaris 2.8 using gcc 2.95.2, in conjunction with
tcp wrappers 7.6 (IPv6 version). The wrapping of open ssh
is not too well documented but I think we have figured
most of this out (hearty thanks to Wietse Venema, Jim
Mintha & Niels Provos for their helpful email exchanges) --

R 1.90 make problem with /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xutil.h on suse linux 9.1?
This is probably a Suse specific problem and not a bug in R, but I'm
reporting it in case it's useful for someone to know about....
Trying to compile R1.9.0 from source on a standard Suse 9.1 install
(athlon in a shuttle sn41g2).
configure seems fine but the Suse X11R6 Xlib.h might be toxic.
In case it helps, here's the sad end to the make output. I can post the
Xlib.h if that

Shared namespaces - solved
Heh heh heh. Whoops.
I've spent a few hours digging around in the source and nearly posted a kludge of a patch I'd written to give a kind of half-baked attempt at getting group-usable subscriptions files. Then I came across something in the source........
In the config file, do something like the following:
namespace public {
separator = /
prefix = Public/

Automatic Folder Expiry (plugin?)
Greetings,
I'm migrating an existing Courier IMAP installation to Dovecot (1.0rc19
right now) on a new server; there's one feature I'm not sure if Dovecot
supports - but it might and I'm missing it, so I'll ask.
In Courier there's an option to expire a folder after a given time
period; ostensibly it's to keep a Trash folder clean, but we use it to
keep the Junk

Problem with 3.0.6 and fileflags
Good day,
I am having trouble compiling rsync 3.0.6 on Red hat Linux EL 5.3.
I have downloaded 3.0.6, and the patches for 3.0.6. I then do the
following:
$ patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff
$ ./prepare-source
$ ./configure ?disable-acl-support
$ make
When I run ./rsync, the following is returned:
Capabilities:
