R CMD install on R 2.5.0 alpha
Hi,
I've just downloaded the latest R v2.5.0 alpha (2007-04-04 r41043) for
WinXP. When I try to
install a package R tries to install it to a no-name (empty name)
directory (causing error downstream):
RCMD INSTALL R.oo
installing to ''
FYI: Package install perfectly on R v2.4.1 patched, and did so also on
earlier R v2.5.0 devel/alpha(?) versions.
Current directory is:
C:\tmp

Problem with batch-file
Hi
I have written a graphical user interface using tcltk. Now I would like to run it under rterm.exe with a batch file. I tried the following code written in a .bat file:
d:\R\rw1071\bin\Rterm.exe --no-restore --no-save <d:\RGui.r> d:\RGui.out
The problem is that rterm does open but the gui isn't running properly. After a few seconds rterm is closeing without doing anything more

Cases of TAB-completion that hang Rterm
FYI,
via a bug report of one of my packages, I discovered that the
following cases will hang Rterm when using TAB completion:
CASE #1:
Adding an empty default function for tail() causes Rterm on Windows to
hang if one press TAB at the prompt:
% Rterm -vanilla
> tail.default <- function(...) {}

MGE-UTALK regression since nut-server-2.2.2
Hi all !
I have communication issues between my station and my old Pulsar EX10 UPS,
(U-Talk) connected by RS232, when using v2.4.1 of nut-server.
I tried to come back to version 2.2.2 and then, communication start and is
operational.
Maybe it's linked to bug 498655, but i haven't seen any answer ?

Sweave output encoding in R-2.10.0beta on Windows (Rgui <-> Rterm)
Dear developers,
I have come across a (somewhat strange) change in the encoding of Sweave
output from R-2.9.2pat to R-2.10.0beta (apparently specific to Rgui) on
Windows installations. Of course, the NEWS file contains quite a few
changes concerning encoding, but I was not able to locate an entry which
explains the observed behaviour. I am not very familiar with
encodings/locales/codepages,

RGui innards questions
Hi,
i would like to find out more on how Rgui works. Is there any
documentation that details how RGui interfaces with the R language &
environment. So, i would like to know things such as:
- What language is RGui built in (source available?)
- What language is RTerm built in?
- how does the output of an R command get directed to the terminal
window in RGui?
It seems to me that RGui is RTerm

Icecast AAC FLV Container
Hello,
I am using Icecast v2.4.1 to to stream AAC audio to web clients through
jPlayer. If HTML5 is not supported then it uses Flash Player.
The problem is that Flash player does not play AAC streams as is, and from
a quick google search someonw suggested I append "?type=.flv" to the url. I
cannot make it work though as whatever I request, I get a response with
mime type

Use Rterm in rxvt for Cygwin?
Dear R users,
Does anyone notice that Rterm.exe does not work well with rxvt.exe,
an xterm emulator for Cygwin? It produces an error message window
with the following message:
This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor
It also prints "Signal 127" in rxvt window.
Rterm --ess, however, works.

Avoiding Delete key function as 'Quit R' in Rterm when there are no characters in cursor line
That looks to me like a bug, but I don't use Windows any more, so I
won't offer to try to fix it for you. In fact I don't think Rterm has
many users at all: most Windows users probably use RStudio or one of
the other graphical front ends (Visual Studio, Emacs, Rgui, etc.)
So maybe you can track down the issue, or someone else will try. Or
maybe you'll just have to avoid

Avoiding Delete key function as 'Quit R' in Rterm when there are no characters in cursor line
I don't use term, but I've just tested it and this is reproducable.
Is it a bug? Not sure. If you hit c after getting the message it will
cancel the q() request.

Is this a bug?
I am new to R (and S) and I hope someone on the list can help me out. I
find the following behaviour surprising, is it a bug or a feature?
(looks like a bug to me)
R Version 1.1.0, Windows (x86, Win32) June 15, 2000
OS Windows 95
cat.test <- function(){
summary(c(1:20))
cat("test\n")
}
summary produces no output, just "test" appears on RGUI's

readline() and Rterm in Windows
I'm running an R script in Rterm and would like the
user to be prompted for input as in:
id <- readline("Please enter ID: ")
myfunction(id)
. . . etc.
This works when I run one line at a time in RGui, but
not when I try to run the script in Rterm (I'm working
with R 2.2.0 in Windows Server 2003).
Is there any way to do this?

Duncan, do you think it's worth to comment this in R-devel list?

[Bug report] Chinese characters are not handled correctly in Rterm for Windows
Hello everyone,
I am new to R and I have experienced some bugs when using Rterm on Windows.
Chinese characters in the console output are discarded by Rterm, and trying
to type them into the console will crash the Rterm application.

Duncan filed a bug report via R bugzilla (thanks).
There is no way to disable this functionality and it has existed for
very long time, I tested that at least in R 3.0. Optionally ending the
session was I believe intentional with Ctrl+D, when the input is empty,

Ctrl-C with R.exe and Rterm.exe in R v1.9.0
Hi, I'm running R v1.9.0 on WinXP Pro. I noticed that R.exe and
Rterm.exe behave differently on Ctrl-C. Starting a Windows Command
prompt (cmd.exe) you get from running Rterm.exe:

Console in RGui does not do CR on \r (PR#4705)
Full_Name: David Lennartsson
Version: 1.7.1, 1.8.0
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (62.119.45.80)
A very minor bug, but here it comes. On doing something as simple as cat("1st
test string\r2nd\n") the console in RGui on Windows do not perform a CR on '\r'.
This is very annoying if you for example want to have a simple progress meter
when running a batch job. It works
