Multiple language output - Correct in RGui, wrong in .txt after sink()
I have the following problem with outputting multilingual data to a file.
I get (except for Korean) what I expect as result in the RGui, but when I
use sink() to output to a text file loose the characters in the foreign
languages.
I post a small example below. Since I am not sure how well my email system
as the list copes with all the different characters I have additionally
created a pdf

Console in RGui does not do CR on \r (PR#4705)
Full_Name: David Lennartsson
Version: 1.7.1, 1.8.0
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (62.119.45.80)
A very minor bug, but here it comes. On doing something as simple as cat("1st
test string\r2nd\n") the console in RGui on Windows do not perform a CR on '\r'.
This is very annoying if you for example want to have a simple progress meter
when running a batch job. It works

(PR#1229) RGui/R Console crashes when entering illegal
This is answered in the rw-FAQ, Q2.12! It is not a problem with R, but
with your installation of Windows.
*PLEASE* do not report FAQs as bugs: it a complete waste of the
developers' time.

Rgui.exe fix for "console not found" buffer overflow problem
I'm using R on Windows XP Professional SP2.
I figured out the fix for my buffer overflow problem that did not allow me
to use Rgui.exe for about two weeks. I would keep getting "console not
found" and even when I uninstalled and re-installed got the same problem.
Here's how the problem started. In Rgui.exe, I attempted to get more
visible output in the buffer (I wanted

Speed issue when writing to RGui console from tcl/tk GUI
It seems that there are speed issues when printing to the R console from a
tcl/tk GUI.
Here are functions to write a lot of output, and to display how long it
takes.
printsalot <- function(n)
{
for(i in 1:n) cat(i, fill = TRUE)
}
timings <- function(n = 1e3)
{
print(system.time(printsalot(n)))
}
Calling timings() from the console reveals a run time of a few hundredths
of a second.

Bug in 2.4.0 Windows menu setup (PR#9277)
I've tracked down where this is occurring, but I don't know how to fix
it. Here's a summary:
If the language in Windows is set to simplified Chinese (i.e. Chinese
(PRC)) and message translations are installed, then on startup Rgui
crashes when it tries to install the console popup menu. The crash
comes when it gets an error trying to do a conversion using mbrtowc, and
tries to

Problems with Windows RGUI R-2.7.0 when PATH includes 'æ'
I have a subdirectory named 'Fælles Filer' in my PATH. When I start the
RGUI, I receive the following error/warning messages:

and
Warning message:

The problems disappear, when I change the the subdirectory name to its short

Newbie - how do I debug a crash of RGUI.EXE
Hi-
I'm running Vista64 Business and trying to use a package called
RGraphViz. Unfortunately, when I try to plot a graph using this package
it causes RGUI.EXE to crash. This package has no problem working in
WinXP 32-bit.
Is there any way to get useful information as to why it crashes?
Here's my commands:

unix-type commandline keystrokes in the windows RGUI
Hi all,
I am generally quite fond of the unix commandline keystrokes (e.g. searching
back in your history with [CTRL]-R, and cutting/pasting with [CTRL]-K/Y)
which work in the R commandline in *nix. Does anyone know if there's any
way to get similar functionality in the Windows RGUI?
I know that as of now, [CTRL]-A and -E do the same as unix (beginning and
end of line) and [CTRL]-Y does a

they shared the same problem. Both worked for a while, but then Rgui.exe crashed

Creating a graphics window (in Windows, with RGui) that is not constrained to the RGui Window
Hi, all,
Using RGui, is it possible to create a graphics window that can be moved
outside of the RGui window? (This can be done--in fact must be
done--using Rterm, but I wish to use RGui.)
My interest for this is to use two monitors: in "my private monitor" I
wish to execute R code in the Rgui window; in "the public monitor" I
want the audience to see the results in the

RGui innards questions
Hi,
i would like to find out more on how Rgui works. Is there any
documentation that details how RGui interfaces with the R language &
environment. So, i would like to know things such as:
- What language is RGui built in (source available?)
- What language is RTerm built in?
- how does the output of an R command get directed to the terminal
window in RGui?
It seems to me that RGui is RTerm

Rgui never processes ~/.Renviron
ISSUE:
It looks like Rgui.exe never processes ~/.Renviron - only ./.Renviron.
REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE:
On Windows, create the following ~/.Renviron and ~/.Rprofile files:
C:\Users\alice> Rscript -e "cat('FOO=123\n', file='~/.Renviron')"
C:\Users\alice> Rscript -e "cat('print(Sys.getenv(\'FOO\'))',
file='~/.Rprofile')"

Odd behavior on Windows: Rgui responds to user interrupts (Ctrl-C) at the Windows command prompt (iff launched from one)
On Windows,
1. Open the Windows Command interpreter (cmd.exe).
2. Launch rgui.exe --vanilla.
2. In RGui, (disable Misc -> Buffered output) and run the following
endless loop:
> i <- 0; repeat { print(i <- i + 1); Sys.sleep(0.1) }
[1] 1
[1] 2
[1] 3
...
3a. Back at the Windows command line, press Ctrl-C (user interrupt).
This will interrupt Rgui!
3b. Alternatively, start Rterm.exe

rgui on windows quiting automatically
Rgui on my computer has started acting funny (though I expect the
problem is with my system rather than R, but hopefully someone
here can still help).
I am working with R version 2.11 on windows 2000.
Rgui was working fine, then last week it started acting up. Now
when I start Rgui (from shorcuts, or the commandline), the GUI
starts up, but before the copyright and version info is printed I
