R-devel (rev 76409) fails 'make check': non-generic function 'isSymmetric' given to findMethods()
Duncan that does indeed look to be the case. Many thanks! In particular, tests/reg-tests-1d.R optionally loads the Matrix namespace which allows the test to succeed. Compare: ~/R-rc_2019-04-21_r76409/bin/Rscript -e "options(warn=2); library(Matrix); res <- findMethods('isSymmetric'); print('success')" [1] "success" versus

unexpected behaviour of isSymmetric() (PR#14000)
Full_Name: Mike Danilov Version: 2.9.0 OS: Fedora Core 9 Submission from: (NULL) (142.103.121.198) When checking for the symmetry of a matrix, function isSymmetric.matrix() gets confused by the discrepancy of colnames/rownames if its argument. See the code snippet below. Perhaps it's a problem of the matrix product which copies colnames of the first argument but not the rownames of the

is this matrix symmetric
Hi, I have this symmetric matrix, at least I think so. col1 col2 col3 [1,] 0.20 0.05 0.06 [2,] 0.05 0.10 0.03 [3,] 0.06 0.03 0.08 or structure(c(0.2, 0.05, 0.06, 0.05, 0.1, 0.03, 0.06, 0.03, 0.08 ), .Dim = c(3L, 3L), .Dimnames = list(NULL, c("var1", "var2", "var3"))) But isSymmetric() doesn't agree. Any comment? I am on R 2.10.1 Thanks. Jun

more on library()
The problem with multiple packages in a library that I reported a few minutes ago seems to occur only if RLIBS ends in a ":". I was setting RLIBS=../padi/rlib:$RLIBS and when RLIBS has no value to begin with this causes the problem. This is obviously not very urgent as I can get around it easily. Paul Gilbert

Calling C routine in anther package in C code (R_RegisterCCallable)
Hi, I want to make use of some C routines from other packages to write extensions in C. In "Writing R Extensions", it says there is an experimental interface to support this in (or from ?) R 2.4.0. I had a dummy library containing src/dummy.cpp and R/zzz.R: ====== src/dummy.cpp ==== #include <R.h> #include <Rinternals.h> #include <R_ext/Rdynload.h>

R INSTALL doc woes
I put some documentation in a file dse/man/dse.Rd in and did R INSTALL -l rlibs dse This built the copies of dse.Rd in rlibs/dse/{help latex html}. It also wrote over R/doc/html/function.html and R/doc/html/packages.html, effectively clobbering all the R documentation. Also, the link that gets put in R/doc/html/packages.html points to R/library/dse/html/00Index.html rather than

Installing packages with R v.2.3.1 on MAC OS X -- Error: "Cannot chdir: No such file or directory"
Dear all, I'm working on MAC OS X 10.4.7 using R version 2.3.1 (June 2006) and platform powerpc-apple-darwin8.6.0. Since I installed the new version of R I cannot install packages any more (but it worked fine before) and get the following message every time. I can, however, install packages from the command line if I get them as precompiled binaries.

methods package: A _R_CHECK_LENGTH_1_LOGIC2_=true
I run checks with R-devel rev. 76756 on several of my packages which use S4, with no ill effects. With the risk of not adding much, it seems that Martin's example, which I repeat below, suggests a crossover between several "signatures" involved here - the signature of the generic, the signature of the method (the argument for setMethod()), and the signature of the function object
