Bug in xy.coords() or documentation error?
Hi,
I noticed the following problem with xy.coords() in R 2.2.1-patched
(version info at the foot of this email) and R 2.3.0 unstable
(subversion no: r37123):

Error in xy.coords(x = matrix(1:20, ncol = 2)) :
argument "y" is missing, with no default
> xy.coords(x = matrix(1:20, ncol = 2), y = NULL)

xy.coords
In ?xy.coords it says:
If 'y' is missing and 'x' is a
formula: of the form 'yvar ~ xvar'. 'xvar' and 'yvar' are used as
x and y variables.
list: containing components 'x' and 'y', these are used to define
plotting coordinates.
time series: the x values are taken to be 'time(x)' and the y

Extracting xy from raster based on raster value
I have a raster (which I called glc), which I read
into R as a raster with "raster.create.from.file" from the raster package (R-forge). Values in glc range between 1 and 27 (whole numbers only). I'd like to extract all cells with a value of 1 to create
a new raster with only the cells that have a value of 1, or to extract
the xy values of all raster cells with a value of 1. Could you

Small change to plot.xy
Hi everyone,
Is there any reason why we should not automatically coerce a factor
supplied as an argument to col in a plotting function? The following
modification (to R-1.6.1) seems pretty harmless
> plot.xy
function (xy, type, pch = 1, lty = "solid", col = par("fg"),
bg = NA, cex = 1, ...)
{
if (is.factor(col))

Error in xy.coords(x, NULL, log = log) : (list) object cannot be coerced to type 'double'
Hi there,
When I run the code below I get the error
Error in xy.coords(x, NULL, log = log) :(list) object cannot be coerced to
type 'double'
Any tips how I can resolve this?

xy.coords and log10
Is there a way to teach xy.coords, when given log="xy", or just "x"
or "y" separately, to do a decimal log10 instead of the natural log?
Cheers,

clicking on plot and recording XY coords
Dear all,
I need to run a interactive procedure where the user
will need click on the screen (over a XY plot)
and I need to record the XY coordinate which the
user clicked. Roughly I wrote a short code below.
You see that I suppose that the user will choose
four coordinates inside the region of intersection
between three segmentes. On each click, I would like to
record the position clicked in a

xy.coords(MATRIX) bug in code or documentation (PR#8937)
Hi, people.
xy.coords() does not behave like its documentation says, when given some
matrices. ?xy.coords says:
If 'y' is 'NULL' and 'x' is a [...] formula [...] list [...]
time series [...] matrix with two columns [...]
In any other case, the 'x' argument is coerced to a vector and
returned as *y* component [...]
Now, consider this short

xy.coords in text
Hello,
I want to add text annotation about correlation on "pairs" plots. I
found that I could pass a function to the "panel" argument of pairs :
panel.annot <- function(x, y, ...) {
points(x, y, ...)
c <- cor.test(x, y)
legend("topleft", legend=substitute(rho == r, list(r=sprintf("%.2f",
c$estimate))), bty="n")
}
And then :

Using XY location data to calculate ecological parameters
Dear R gurus,
I have XY data giving the locations of tree seedlings that were
surveyed during a 210 meter belt transect. This belt transect was
taken by stretching a line across the field, then measuring all
seedlings within 1 meter on either side of the line. The end result
was XY coordinates and height for ~1,300 seedlings. I would like to
use that data to calculate density of

Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list,
I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere
outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like
to know where I should have filled it.
And to the subject matter:
I would like to use a command like this:
plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n")

help with xy.coords(x,y)
i am working on the project to analyze hedge fund performance, i would
appreciate that if you guys could spare some time helping me out with the R
code. Thanks.
The senario is:
i applied BOXPLOT() to plot the performance of all hedge funds with 7
strategies.
And right now in this boxplot I need to plot the points of 30 individual
hedge funds from my portfolio. And I applied POINTS() and

using alpha transparency for lines in levelplot
Hello, I'm having trouble with using the alpha channel for transparency
with lines with lattice levelplots.
If I use transparency via the alpha argument to rgb to overplot lines on
levelplot the transparent colour affects all of the region colours in the
plot.
Can anyone explain why the difference in region colours?

How do I plot multiple XY plots on the same graph
Hello,
I have multiple data sets I would like to plot on the same XY scatterplot.
The data sets have in common the same Y values.
Could somebody tell me how to do this?
I tried par(T=new) (I think this was it) but it literally overlays plots on each other.
Thanks in advance.

patch proposal for plot.ts
Hi all.
Currently, if you try:
> lag.plot(1:10)
you get superposed labels '1' and '10'. Things go worse in more extreme cases:
x <- ts(1:10)
x1 <- lag(x, 4)
plot(x1, x)
This is due to a mistake in plot.ts. My suggestion is the following
really minimal patch to plot.ts:

plotting labels (not values) on xy plot
I have 2 vectors, x and y and have done an xy plot.
I want to plot the label (name?) of the vector on the plot rather than the
value.
text(x,y, labels = x)
gives me the value of x.
text(x,y, labels = labels(x))
gives me something like c("text1","text2"..) plotted for each point
text(x,y, labels = names(x))
gives nothing
print(x) gives me
