S4 Method dispatch in recent 2.4.0alpha
I use 2 packages that both implement a S4 plot method, where one package
depends on the other (the bioconductor package globaltest which depends
on multtest). When the plot method is used from within the package, it
seems the default plot method is used, and an error is generated. When
the method is invoked from the console, the plot is created correctly. I
have reproduced this with 2 small

use apply function with which
Dear R-users,
For a data frame (say in this example X) I want to look up the
corresponding value in a 'look-up data frame' (in this example Y). The
for-loop works but is very time-consuming because 'X' in reality is very
big.
Therefore I would like to have a solution with apply. However, I do not
succeed. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Hanneke

issue with "strange" characters (locale settings)
WinXP-x32, R-21.13.0
Dear list,
I have a problem that (I think) relates to the interaction between Windows
and R.
I am trying to scrape a table with data on the Hawai'ian Islands, This is my
code:
library(XML)
u <- "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii"
tables <- readHTMLTable(u)
Islands <- tables[[5]]
The output is (first set of columns):

I am working on an unix SunOS machine ( sun4u sparc) and since the last
release of R -R version 2.5.0 (2007-04-23) - ,
I have got troubles during the execution of batch command.
For example with the instruction file multic.in

Thank you. The line of code you give certainly resolves several of the
issues.
I didn't realize that font support is such a tough matter to realize. Let me
express my gratitude to those who provide this for us in R.

Different results for sparse and dense version of model matrix using contrasts and interactions
Dear all,
I've been getting different results from the sparse and dense version
of model.Matrix when used with sparse contrasts and interactions
between factors. The same happens when using model.matrix and
sparse.model.matrix. When calculating list.contrasts I get the same
results for sparse and dense contrasts (except the type of the matrix
is different of course). However, when I use these

Hi,
I am using venn diagram function in AMDA to plot the venn diagram. But it seems in this function, it can only plot 3 or less vectors. Is there a way to plot the venn diagram with more than 3 vectors?
Please help.
Thanks.

Domain vCPU threads affinity
Hello,
According to the docs, vcpupin will use either cgroups or sched_setaffinity
to pin vcpu threads to cpus. How is this decision made?
I observe differences even on different hosts featuring the same version of
libvirtd (1.3.1): on one host vcpupin affects cpuset.cpus (cgroup), and on
the other it affects vcpu threads affinity (observed through taskset).
Thanks,
Nikos

Greetings,
when execute lspci inside my vm linux guest, I see this:

03:00.0 SCSI storage controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio block device (rev 01)
I don't see any such address in my xml file, is it possible to move that controller to another pci addr?
Thanks,
Dagg.

Normalization problem
At first I would like to express the gratitude toward Oosting, J. and James

Now I have a new problem. I was trying to normalize set of microarray data
on HGU133 paltform. I put all the HGU133A platform chips in one directory
and all the other HGU133B chips on another directory. When I tried to

Running mongrel globally
Hi,
I would like to run Mongrel as a proxy to apache globally. With no input needed, all the customer
has to do is install there app, and put the proxy commands, in there .htaccess. Is there a way I can
do this. I am having great luck running them as a single account.
Thank you

List-Archives ...
Hi everybody,
actually I wanted to search the list archive, before asking, but
unfortunately I don't "get" it:
$ gunzip 2018-May.txt.gz
gunzip: 2018-May.txt.gz: not in gzip format
It seems, that in every archive-file there is always one message in
plaintext and then a big binary block.
Any hint?
Thanks a lot,
