adding graphics after dev.copy
Hi, I am trying to create a plot and save it as pdf to the file file1.pdf, then add some details and save the new plot as file2.pdf. I would like to avoid repeating all the instructions needed to create file1.pdf when I create file2.pdf. This is what I have tried: pdf(file="file1.pdf") plot(1:10) dev.copy(pdf,file="file2.pdf") points(2,3) dev.off() dev.off() When I run

adding a method to the dist function
Hi all, I'd like to add the Bhattacharyya method to the dist function. What is the best way to do this? I'm using R 1.9.0 and I was looking for the code that defines the already existing distances, but I didn't manage. As far as I understand, dist is defined in mva that is part of the stats package now, but where is the code? Thank you very much, Giampiero

how to fix a factor
Hi all, I created a data frame with three factors, plus the response that looks like this: x1 x2 x3 y a 1 1 0.3 a 2 1 0.1 b 1 1 0.4 c 4 3 0.1 ... I would like to analise the effect of two of them, keeping the third fixed (I already know the effect of the last). The reason why I don't create several data frames for each value of the thirs factor is simply convenience (I'd like to be able

combn implementation
Hi, I was checking the source code to the function combn that "generates all combinations of the elements of 'x' taken 'm' at a time.", because I wished to modify it. I have a doubt about a statement. This is the main loop. ._1 <- 1:1 nmmp1 <- n - m + ._1 while (a[1] != nmmp1) { if (e < n - h) { h <- ._1 e <-

reference to objects
Hi, is there a way to reference to a data object without copying it? For example I have a huge matrix called dist and I want two objects obj1 and obj2 to have a memeber dist that points to the matrix, but I don't want, for memory reasons, to copy the matrix twice. As far as I understand the following code will generate three copies of my data: dist <- some_code_that_generates_data

Phonetic symbols (IPA) in R graphics
Hi all, I would like to add phonetic symbols in my figures. Usually I typeset my documents in LaTeX and I use the tipa [1] package to get International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) fonts. So, my problem would be solved if I could insert LaTeX commands in the text() function (I guess at least). I would like to avoid using psfrag (that is, inserting a string in the eps figure and then substituting it

Doubts on incremental backup and command repetition
Hi, I am trying to use rsync for incremental backup and I am facing some issues. I would like to ask your help to understand what is going on and have the proper command line. 1) my goal is I the following folders: ./dest: file3.txt ./orig: file1.txt   file10.txt  file2.txt   file20.txt And I would like to have as incremental backup ./dest: backup      file1.txt     file2.txt  file3.txt

recordPlot() on non-interactive graphics device?
Hi. Q. Is there a way to record a plot using grDevices::recordPlot() without opening an interactive (=visible GUI window) graphics device (not even for a flash of a second)? Related: help("recordPlot", package="grDevices") says: "These functions record and replay the displaylist of the current graphics device." Is the intention that recordPlot() should be able to

2.7.0 beta (rev 45263) failing 'make vignettes'
Dear list, On Fedora 8 I downloaded the beta version of R via svn. make and make check-all worked fine, but make vignettes is failing with: make[1]: Entering directory `/home/gavin/R/2-7-patched/build/src/library' building/updating vignettes for package 'grid' ... processing 'displaylist.Snw' /usr/bin/texi2dvi: pdflatex exited with bad status, quitting. recordPlot/replayPlot not working with saveRDS/readRDS
The documentation for recordPlot says the following: > As of R 3.3.0, it is possible (again) to replay a plot from another R session using, for example, saveRDS and readRDS. However, I haven't been able to save and restore a plot displaylist and have it work within the same R session, using R 3.4.3 or 3.3.3. Here's an example: # Save displaylist for a simple plot

[PATCH v2] xfstests: btrfs/316: cross-subvolume sparse copy
This testscript creates reflinks to files on different subvolumes, overwrites the original files and reflinks, and moves reflinked files between subvolumes. Originally submitted as testcase 302, changes are made based on comments from Eric: http://oss.sgi.com/archives/xfs/2013-03/msg00231.html Two new common/rc functions used in this script (_require_cp_reflink and _verify_reflink) have been

[LLVMdev] Redefining function
Hi everybody. I've just started learning about LLVM and didn't get too far studying the core. I couldn't find the solution to my problem (if it has one) in the mailing list or the source code. The problem is: how can I redefine a function that's been called already by some other function? Suppose I have 3 files, all compiled to bytecode through llvm-gcc (I think it could be clang

error bar position setting
Hi, I am using R on Windows XP. I am using 'arrows' funtion to plot the variance as error bar, BUT error bar goes only one side of the data point, I need to plot the error bar on both side of the data point (plot is attached), I am using following commands to plot, plot(file3$lat,file3$STotwoKm,pch=21,cex=2.5,ylim=c(-0.2,2.5),xlim=c(-50,50),xlab=NA,ylab=NA, col=1,

rsync --delete problems
For some time I have been using rsync to backup data between different machines and my NAS drive. But within the last 2 days I have found out that rsync is not removing old files from destination - directories renamed or removed from source. In this example I want to sync files on my Debian Linux server to a NAS drive. NAS drive is mounted using smbmount. Using "-avhzn" dry-run it

[LLVMdev] Compile units in debugging intrinsics / globals
I have a question about the llvm debugging records, especially wrt compile units. In the non-LLVM sense, a compile unit is essentially everything contained within a single .o file, and it is derived from one or more source and header files. Included in a compile unit are functions and global data. Dwarf records refer to compile units in the same way: a compile unit record has children which
