Import range of cells from Excel
Dear all, I would like to import a range of cells (e.g. F10:K234) from an Excel worksheet to R. I have looked for documentation on RODBC and RDCOMClient but I was not able to find enough information to solve my problem and all the examples I have seen were dealing with an entire worksheet, not a range of cells. read.xls: number of sheets
Hi, I'm trying to read several Excel sheets from an Excel file into a list. I'm using read.xls from package 'gdata'. I would like to know how I can check the number of sheets before the loop (in the example below) so that I could adjust the loop counter? Any suggestions? DF.list <- list() for (i in 1:4) { DF.list[[i]] <- read.xls("sample_file.xls", sheet=i,

R-help Digest, Vol 77, Issue 9
Hi, This may be due to several reasons. That I can think about: 1) Ensure you close *all* possibly open workbooks: nBooks <- xl[["Workbooks"]]$Count(); for (i in seq_len(nBooks)) xl[["Workbooks"]]$item(i)$Close(SaveChanges=FALSE); 2) The excel application reference does not seem to be really released until the garbage collector runs. So this may help: xl$Quit();

newline with cell of Excel worksheet created with write.xls
As part of my project to put different types of results into worksheets, I would like to be able to put an auto-generated methods section. If I compose in RWinEdt, read into R, and use write.table with a .txt file extension, what I get out has line-breaks that correspond to those I put in in the first place. If I do the same thing but write.xls with .xls extention, I get an Excel worksheet

Importing multiple worksheets from one Excle/ csv file into R
Dear R experts, I am trying to import some data from some Excle files into R. My Excle file contains about 50 sheets. One solution I can think about is to convert my Excle file into csv file first and then load data into R using 'read.csv'. But it seems to me that 'read.csv' only supports reading one sheet (or 'one file') each time, so that seems I have to create 50 csv

Excel Export in a beauty way
Hallo all, I`ve read a lot of things in this forum about an Excel export via R. It is no problem to export my data frames via write.table or write.xls (xls or csv), but some things are not very convenient for me: I always have to adjust the column with to see all the numbers or the text and there is no frame between the cells. And I missing the possibility to make some headers bold or coloured.

pretty report
Dear Listers: I have a couple of data frames to report and each corresponds to different condtions, e.g. conditions=c(10, 15, 20, 25). In this examples, four data frames need to be exported in a "pretty" report. I knew Perl has some module for exporting data to Excel and after googling, I found R does not. So I am wondering if there is a package in R for generating good reports. I
