Regarding {KernSmooth} - Can a package on CRAN have non GPL copyrights?
Hi all,
I'm not sure who to ask this, so I'm posting this here.
I just ran:
require(KernSmooth)
And got (I bolded the text):
Loading required package: KernSmooth
KernSmooth 2.23 loaded
*Copyright M. P. Wand 1997-2009*
Warning message:
package 'KernSmooth' was built under R version 2.12.1
What does that mean?
Thanks,

longer object length, is not a multiple of shorter object length in: kappa * gcounts
Hi,
I was using a density estimation function as follows:
> est <- KernSmooth::bkde(x3, bandwidth=10)
When setting bandwidth less than 5, I got the error "longer object
length, is not a multiple of shorter object length in: kappa * gcounts ".
I wonder if there is anybody who can explain the error for me?
Thanks!

bandwidths for bivariate density estimation
Hi,
I am using the KernSmooth package to estimate nonparametrically bivariate
density functions. However, it seems that the bandwidths (one for each
co-ordinate direction) have to be selected manually. This does not apply
for the univariate case, for which dpik (included in KernSmooth) uses
up-to-date plug-in rules.
Does anyone know about a package, or function, which estimates bandwidths

Ubuntu package for 2.5.1
Hi all,
Just a quick note to bring to all Ubuntu users on i386 that the
packages for R 2.5.1 (and a few recommended packages needed
rebuilding) are now available from CRAN. Supported distributed are
Dapper (6.06), Edgy (6.10) and Feisty (7.04).
Please report any problems to me and/or this list.

ROCR package not installing
I have tried installing the package (ROCR) with this command:
Install.packages(ROCR)
And with this command on the command line
R CMD INSTALL ROCR_1.0-4.tar.gz
But both times I get exactly the same error shown below, I don't understand
what is wrong, is this an error in the package code?
Thank you

License for KernSmooth?
According to the CRAN contributed packages page, the license for "KernSmooth" is
*not* GPL. It is listed as "License: Unlimited distribution (from Dr Wand)."
Are there any restrictions on this of any kind? Is there some written license
document similar to the GPL license? The reason I'm asking is that the legal
beagles in the company I work for are extremely paranoid about

Error with rgl loading in BATCH mode
Dear all,
I'm trying to run a script that requires KernSmooth in BATCH mode but I get
an error while loading rgl library that is needed by KernSmooth. Actually I
have to run several batch files through a queue of a cluster, so I wouldn't
need graphics at all.
I installed the latest releases of R (2.6.1) and rgl on my CentOS 4.2 Linux
(clone of Red Hat EL) endowed with Rocks 4.2.1 suite

variable share connect times ... how to speed up ?
All -
Many apologies if the following is covered in the documentation, but
I've looked through it all and can't find it.
My question: what conditions affect the speed with which samba
allocates a share requested by a client and how can I speed up the
process ?
Background: I have a number of NT 4/SP 4 clients accessing a number of
Unix boxes running samba 2.0.6 which are, in turn,

density estimation in two dimensions
Hello,
I am a newbie to R and the subject of density estimation in two
dimensions or more.
I would like to have some advice concerning a comparison between the R
packages
for density estimation in bivariate or higher order problems; I mean
explicitly
the packages:
1) ash
2) KernSmooth
3) locfit
4) sm.
My specific problem now is having a set of numerical pairs (x_i, y_i),

Rename Variable and package gdata
Dear R-helpers,
I hope someone can help me with the following problem:
I derived a variable from many others and produced data.frame: toktempo
When I look at the variable name I get:
names(toktempo)
[1] "otok.V5"
But I want the variable name to be Tempo so I googled around to find info
about renaming variables.
I found a webpage which seemed to indicate to me that there was a

Message: No title available (pre-2.0.0 install?)
Hello All,
I'm actually the system administrator of a UNIX system where several
users use R version 2.6.0. I have a user who is trying to use the SURVEY
package, and when he does, he gets the message:
survey' is not a valid package -- installed < 2.0.0?
When I run the library() command, I get (see below):

Package Installation in RGui (PR#7262)
In reference to the thread
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/devel/04/10/0859.html
I have the same problem updating packages with newly-installed version of
released version of R 2.0.1. Previous posts refer to a bug in windows. I
wonder if there is a work-around? This probably should go to R-help but it
follows on from the post in R-devel. Apologies in advance.
