Request to open up getConnection to embedded interface
Hello all,
I would like to request that getConnection() and the struct Rconn
declarations be added to the R embedded interface. Here's why.
It's common in CGI scripts for web applications to direct stdin, stdout,
and stderr map to reading from the browser, writing to the browser, and
writing to a web log file respectively; very nice and neat. However,
things get a little hairy once

use dyn.load to redefine R internal fns?
I would like to redefine some R print functions (Rprintf for example) so
that they don't print to stdout, but save the output in a global string
array. I can compile and link my definition of Rprintf into a library and
load it with dyn.load. I don't get an error message, but afterwards the
original function is still valid, my new version isn't executed.
Is there a way to change R

Plot window does not update in embedded code
Dear list,
I am trying to embed R into a C++ program. After some tinkering,
reading the documentation and browsing the source code I have this
more or less working. A very very condensed and very simplified
version of the code is included below.
The program can create plots. However, after the plot is initially
drawn it is no longer updated. When scaling or updating the plot the
window becomes

segfault on write.dcf with gzfile connection
I'm seeing a segfault on x86_64 Linux with the following code:
desc = read.dcf("BAD")
con = gzfile("test.gz", "wt")
write.dcf(desc, file=con)
close(con)
where BAD has a long field (see below for example). The crash happens
inside dummy_vfprintf. I think the issue is that the va_list ap is
modified by the first vsnprintf call

Replacements for stdout and stderr guaranteed to be open in all versions of R
I maintain the geometry package, which integrates the Qhull C library
(http://qhull.org) into R. The Qhull function I hook into requires an
open FILE handle as one of its arguments. I had set this file handle to
stdout, but now R check NOTEs the presence of stdout, and the CRAN
maintainers asked me to get rid of these NOTEs.
Including the following defines means the checks are passed on CRAN:

ptr_R_EditFile, R_WriteConsole, and R_ShowMessage
Hi!
I have an application embedding R. For that of course, it is great, that since
R 2.1.0 the pointers in Rinterface.h allow me to override some callbacks,
easily. However, after implementing/overriding a couple of those, I'm a bit
confused about when exactly they get called. So, here are a few specific
questions:
ptr_R_EditFile:
I can find exactly one point in the R-sources where

Catching warning and error output
Hi all,
I'm working on a GUI frontend for R, and I'm looking for a good way to catch
all warning- and error-output. The reason for this is mostly, that I would
like to know, which sections of the output are "normal" output, warnings, and
errors. This would allow for some nice features, such as highlighting
warnings and errors in a different color, or popping up a message

RFC: API to allow identification of warnings and errors in the output stream
Dear R developers,
this mail is basically a summary / clarification of some previous mails I sent
to this list last week (subject "Catching warning and error output"). Duncan
Murdoch pointed out that these were badly organized, and suggested I repost,
collecting the main points previously spread out between several mails.
Problem statement:
In an application embedding R, I would

Interfacing C-code (gets and printf) under WINDOWS (Visual C++)
Hi
I try to develop a R interface to a set of C routines, in order to
produce a R-package on Geostatistics.
My C-code uses interaction with the user as I use printf and gets
statements.
I develop the code in a LINUX environment and do not face any problem
having the questions and answers routed on my current Terminal.
When I tried to port the package on Windows, the problems began. No

Curious to know if this warning is expected behavior, and if so, what is
the recommended way instead:

Running an expression 1MN times using embedded R
Hello,
I'm evaluating this expression
expression({ for(x in 1:5){ .Call('rh_status','x') }})
a million times from a program with R embedded in it. I have attached
reproducible code that crashes with

R callbacks
Hi,
I'm trying to understand (mostly from the R-exts manual) how to use
the callbacks declared in Rinterface.h. As a first attempt, I'm trying
to redefine ptr_R_WriteConsole in a very trivial manner. Here's my
code:
---------------
$ cat altr.c
int Rf_initialize_R(int ac, char **av);
#define R_INTERFACE_PTRS 1
#include <Rinterface.h>
extern int R_running_as_main_program;

early R messages to stdout
Hi,
I have an R script that takes its input in the form of command-line
parameters. It works fine, but R complains about every unknown arg with the
"ARGUMENT %s ignored" message, and this goes to stdout instead of stderr
because R_ConsoleFile isn't set yet. Is it really necessary to process all
command line args before setting R_ConsoleFile? It seems that only Aqua
systems care

Port of R header files to Delphi
I'm in the process of porting R header files to Delphi. The short
term aim is to be able to make calls into the R.dll from Delphi; the
longer term aim is to play around with writing a Windows front-end
with some of the features of the S-PLUS environment (e.g. scripts),
and other features from other IDEs I've used (e.g. watch windows,
popup values of variables selected by mouse, etc.)

R-beta: R with gnuwin32
I have been using R under Linux for more than a year and
I think that it is great.
Last week, I downloaded the binary Ms Windows version. I wanted
to test it for my students. Our labs are under Bill Gates.
I am not happy but I can do nothing.
R worked. But, I could not use the dyn.load command
with some dll built with one of the ports of
gcc for windows 95/nt (I used the ecgs-mingw32 ports
