Installing packages with R v.2.3.1 on MAC OS X -- Error: "Cannot chdir: No such file or directory"
Dear all, I'm working on MAC OS X 10.4.7 using R version 2.3.1 (June 2006) and platform powerpc-apple-darwin8.6.0. Since I installed the new version of R I cannot install packages any more (but it worked fine before) and get the following message every time. I can, however, install packages from the command line if I get them as precompiled binaries.

binomial lmer and fixed effects
Hi Folks, I think I have searched exhaustively, including, of course R-help (D. Bates, S. Graves, and others) and but I remain uncertain about testing fixed effects with lmer(..., family=binomial). I gather that mcmcsamp does not work with Do we rely exclusively on z values of model parameters, or could we use anova() with likelihood ratios, AIC and BIC, with (or without)

merge gives me too many rows
Hi, I am using merge to add some variables to an existing dataframe. I use the option "all.x=F" so that my final dataframe will only have as many rows as the first file I name in the call to merge. With a large dataframe using a lot of "by" variables, the number of rows of the merged dataframe increases from 177325 to 179690: >dim(test) [1] 177325 9 >

lmer binomial model overestimating data?
Hi folks, Warning: I don't know if the result I am getting makes sense, so this may be a statistics question. The fitted values from my binomial lmer mixed model seem to consistently overestimate the cell means, and I don't know why. I assume I am doing something stupid. Below I include code, and a binary image of the data is available at this link:

Dear Everybody! I want to export data to LaTeX. As I want to employ the data as freely as possible I want to avoid the xtable-command and instead generate some List like \MyOwnPrettyCommand{Adam}{Auer}{17} \MyOwnPrettyCommand{Bertram}{Bauer}{14} \MyOwnPrettyCommand{Christoph}{Huber}{75} \MyOwnPrettyCommand{Damian}{Dorfer}{69} \MyOwnPrettyCommand{Emanuel}{Eder}{43} with \MyOwnPrittyCommand

Bugs with partial name matching during partial replacement (PR#9299)
This is a rather interesting, but I don't think it is a bug - it is just things that "you are not supposed to do"... you are assuming a certain evaluation order of the 4 "$" operators in " D$ABC[D$M] = D$V[D$M] " as in: temp1 <- D$M # 2nd and 4th temp2 <- D$V[temp1] # 3rd D$ABC[temp1] = temp2 # 1st What R did was this:

terribly naive question
Dear R-Representative: I am very new to R and I have to admit that I am not the cleverest of users. So, please bear with me. I have installed R on my Mac OS 8.6. I am interested in eventually using the packages -- many useful ones have been downloaded with the basic R software. I have looked through some of the manuals, however, I have not yet found how to access the commands in these packages.
