read.spss {foreign} doesn't work over network?
I'm unable to open an SPSS file over my network. If I copy it to my local C:/ drive I can read it. I saved the command (in a "crib sheet" text file) in order to avoid all the typing, so I'm pretty sure I've done it before. I verified that the file I'm trying to read is OK. This is what happens: > SurveyData <-

License quandry in the Fedora sub-space of all R packages
There was mention of this [r-sig-fedora at r-project.org] mailing list on one of the other R lists overnight. I thought the list needed a bit of posting, as I could not recall seeing content recently on it. I cross post to the Red Hat hosted list as well, it raises issues relevant there as well I have been packaging in support of many of the financial packages at CRAN and in R-Forge [

mlbench dataset question
Dear R-users, Recently, I am facing some problems when converting mlbench data into matrix format. library(mlbench) data(BostonHousing) X<- BostonHousing[,1:13] y<-BostonHousing[,14] I want to convert X and y into matrix form. I am getting these obvious errors... > t(X)%*%y Error in t(X) %*% y : requires numeric/complex matrix/vector arguments > t(as.matrix(X))%*%(as.matrix(y))

BreastCancer Dataset for Classification in kknn
Dear All, I'm getting a error while trying to apply the BreastCancer dataset (package=mlbench) to kknn (package=kknn) that I don't understand as I'm new to R. The codes are as follow: rm = (list = ls()) library(mlbench) data(BreastCancer) library(kknn) BCancer = na.omit(BreastCancer) d = dim(BCancer)[1] i1 = seq(1, d, 2) i2 = seq(2, d, 2) t1 = BCancer[i1, ] t2 =

Help with plot.svm from e1071
Hi. I'm trying to plot a pair of intertwined spirals and an svm that separates them. I'm having some trouble. Here's what I tried. > library(mlbench) > library(e1071) Loading required package: class > raw <- mlbench.spirals(200,2) > spiral <- data.frame(class=as.factor(raw$classes), x=raw$x[,1], y=raw$x[,2]) > m <- svm(class~., data=spiral) > plot(m,

questions on rpart (tree changes when rearrange the order of covariates?!)
Greetings, I am using rpart for classification with "class" method. The test data is the Indian diabetes data from package mlbench. I fitted a classification tree firstly using the original data, and then exchanged the order of Body mass and Plasma glucose which are the strongest/important variables in the growing phase. The second tree is a little different from the first one. The

Crash report: projection pursuit & predict
Folks, The projection pursuit regression function in the base R seems to crash when the optimization level is set to zero, i.e. the initial ridge terms are accepted without refitting. I encountered this problem in an out-of-sample prediction exercise using predict. But further investigation suggests the issue is with the ppr fit and predict just sppeds up the crash. The other optlevels seem to be

Classifying Intertwined Spirals
I'm using an SVM as I've seen a paper that reported extremely good results. I'm not having such luck. I'm also interested in ideas for other approaches to the problem that can also be applied to general problems (no assuming that we're looking for spirals). Here is my code: library(mlbench) library(e1071) raw <- mlbench.spirals(194, 2) spiral <-

Packages for R 1.2.0 for Windows
I have re-built all the compiled packages for R 1.2.0 for Windows, and the set available in CRAN/bin/windows/contrib are now for rw1020. If you are upgrading to rw1020, please replace all the compiled packages you have downloaded by ones from this set. There a few packages available for the first time: RMySQL mlbench netCDF and a few that are not yet running on 1.2.0 on any platform hdf5
