Adjusted means and generalized chain block designs
Dear Colleagues, John Mandel ( Chain block designs with two-way elimination of heterogeneity. Biometrics 10, 251-272 ,1954). extended the class of chain block designs (Youden & Conner (1953) to elimination of both row and column (blocks) effects. These experimental designs can be useful in engineering and other fields. I am having difficulty obtaining his adjusted treatment means in his

persp question
someone sent in a question earlier about doing something in 3D so i took a stab at it purely for educational purposes ( i'm not even sure that I understood the question actually ). Unfortunately, persp gives me an error that I don't understand because it says "object y not found". I'm sending y in as a parameter to persp similar to what ?persp shows in one of oits examples

Manipulating text files
Dear R Community, I am trying to optimize a water quality model that I am using. Based on conversations with others more familiar with what I am doing I plan to implement DEOptim to do this. The water quality model is interfaced through a GUI. I have the input file necessary to alter parameters and run the model as a text file. To do the optimization I have figured out the general procedure

Importing an Excel file
Hello, R users, I am a very beginner of R and tried read.csv to import an excel file after saving an excel file as csv. But it added alternating rows of fictitious NA values after row number 16. When I applied read.delim, there were trailing several commas at the end of each row after row number 16 instead of NA values. Appreciate your help. Kyong [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

seemingly simple read.table question
I have a file that I thought would be fairly simple to read in using read.table but I am having problems ( as usual ). each line of the file is of the form ( just 20 lines or so ) financials XXX, YYY, ZZZ automobiles RTR, ABC, TGH so the first field in the line is the industry and the other fields ( seperated by commas ) in the line are stock identifiers of stocks in that industry. note that

[R-SIG-Mac] How to interrupt an R process that hangs
+1--this is the single most-annoying issue with R that I know of. My usual solution, after accomplishing nothing as R spins idly for a couple hours, is to kill the process and lose any un-saved work. save.history() is my friend, but is a big delay when you work with big data sets as I do, so I don't run it after every command. I have cc'd r-help here, however, because I experience this

Clipboard Syncing (does wine sync images or files)?
I am running on a Mac and the clipboard seems to work in my program on text just fine. The problem is when I copy an image to the clipboard it doesn't seem to copy. If I copy an image to the clipboard then I try to paste it I get what was on the clipboard previously (text). Does wine not support syncing images or files to the clipboard (besides text)? Any workaround to this?

[patch] Raw sockets in jails
Although RAW sockets can be used when specifying the source address of packets (defeating one of the aspects of the jail) some people may find it usefull to use utilities like ping(8) or traceroute(8) from inside jails. Enclosed is a patch I have written which gives you the option of allowing prison-root to create raw sockets inside the prison, so
