Memory usage decreases drastically after save workspace, quit, restart, load workspace
Dear all,
I have the following problem:
- I have written a program in R which runs out of physical memory
on my MacBook Pro with 1.5 GB RAM
- The memory usage is much higher then I would expect from the
actual data in my global environment
- When I save the workspace, quit R, restart R and load the
workspace again, memory usage is much less then before

Cannot quit R - fame package issue?
Hello list member:
I've recently had a problem in that I'm unable to quit an R Session. I
noticed this after the update to 2.8.0, but I believe I also noticed it
on another machine, in the previous version. It occurs on both linux
and Mac platforms. It only occurs when I start R in some particular
workspaces that have alot of objects in them; it does not occur if I
start R in an

Show location of workspace image on quit?
When I quit R, it says:
> q()
Save workspace image? [y/n/c]:
and since I've probably got 3 R sessions running in however many
different directories and I might have jumped around with setwd() , I
forget exactly where R wants to save its workspace image. So could q()
be changed to say what file it is going to save to before it does?
Currently I have to hit 'c', then do

Saving workspace image
Hi folks,
On quitting R with q(), is it possible to save the workspace
to a directory other than the one R was started from?
(I sometimes have a project "master" directory with the major
R code and data in that directory, but divisions of the project
having their specific stuff in sub-directories. So if I quit while
running a sub-project, I'd like to save the workspace back into

How do you stop R from putting up a dialog box when you quit Rgui?
(I use Windows and I never save workspaces that way)

Deleted objects keep coming back
Having a very strange and frustrating problem with v2.0.1 under Mac OSX
10.3. I have several closely related workspaces in the same directory that I
need to keep separate from one another (there are a few objects common to
all workspaces, and then there are other objects that store the results of
different analyses on the common objects, which is why I need separate
workspaces).

quitting iESS[R] (R in ESS)
One thing that has driven me batty to no end is the fact that ESS
doesn't handle R's "exit" well. Any thoughts as to the default? I'm
thinking of something like:
current: do what currently is done
C-u Y C-c C-q : quit and save workspace
C-u N C-c C-q : quit and don't save workspace.
Comments?

Problem with workspace loading after languageR use
Hello R,
To analyze multi-level data, I started learning and using lmer. So far
so wonderful. I then found some useful functions in package languageR.
But then the following problem ocurred: Whenever I load and use the
languageR package, then save the workspace - or quit R with saving the
workspace - I am unable to reload that workspace in a later session.
That is, R doesn't start at all

deleting variables
How can I automatically exclude one variable from being saved in the
workspace when I quit an R session? The problem is I don't know how to
erase a variable once it has been created.
Background: I open a connection called "con" to a database server in my
~/.Rprofile. Obviously, the connection expires when quitting the R
session. Unfortunately, the workspace is loaded after

how to put barchart and line chart in the same plot in ggplot2
dear userR:
I am trying to plot two dependent variables in the same plot in ggplot2.
because these two variables have very different magnitude, I have to use a
second Y axis. I hope one variable to be line and the other to be barchart.
The x axis is continuous. Yet since I have to make barchart, I guess I have
to treat it as discrete or categorical.
I have been google searching for the whole

Cannot activate chm help in R 2.10
Dear all,
I just tried to be fast for once, installed R 2.10 and also newly installed
all previously-installed packages. However, now all my help files are text
only, which is of course a pity with the new possibilities of links between
help pages. What can I do to re-activate chm-help? chm-help does not work
for anything, not even base functionality.
My system is Windows XP, German locale

writing R extension
I'd like to develop a simple library in R in which to save my
particular functions.
I have read the manual on "Writing R Extensions" but it's too
difficult. Someone could help me?
I want only save my personal function (recorded in R-code, not in C) in
"myLibrary" and I want to call it with:

Saving nothing with save()
Scenario: Here I am working away in R. I've got results that prove
global warming is anthropogenic and also the solution for producing
limitless carbon-neutral energy from nuclear fusion. Its been a good
day.
So, I want to save my work. I don't want to overwrite my current
.RData, so I save it to another file:

Hi,
I'd like R to no longer prompt me to save my workspace every time I
quit. I seem to recall seeing this option (maybe in the OS X console?)
but I can't seem to find it in WinXP. Can anyone help?
Thanks! Mark

How to save and restore a workspace
Saving your workspace means that the variables you currently have defined in your session [ everything that shows up when you type ls() ] are saved to a file, by default named ?.RData?. To restore the workspace, you use the ?Load Workspace? command and navigate to the (same) .RData file. Its default location for Windows, as far as I know, is your ?Documents? folder. So look there.
I see that you

save workspace while running R on a cluster
Hello,
I have a question about running R in a cluster environment. The shell script
I am running looks like this:

/nfs/apollo/1/shares/software/core_facility/local/x86_64_rocks/R/current/bin/
R --save < calculate.R >& script.out
I have used the "-save" command to save the R workspace (If, I understand it

a simple suggestion for the next version of R windows
Is it possible to replace the word "R Console" on the title bar (is it what
it's called? It's the blue area above menu bar) with the name of the work
space file you're using or loaded, so people who are runing multple R
sessions at same time can identify them immediately. I'm using 1.9.0 in SDI
mode.
Thanks,
