range and anisotropy with RandomFields
Hello, I am presently trying to get a feel for the various packages out there that allow me to both analyze and simulate random fields. The package RandomFields is nice, but there are still a few aspects of its implementation that are confusing to me and I was hoping someone could help clarify things for me. It could also be that my questions reflect a lack of knowledge pertaining to random

2d kriging with anisotropy on an irregular network (RandomFields Package)
Dear List I am using the RandomFields package, and I have a problem when 2d-kriging, with an anisotropy, some values from an irregular network. It works well when : - 2d-kriging, without any anisotropy, some data from an irregular network - 2d-kriging, with and without anisotropy, some data from a regular network - 3d-kriging, with and without anisotropy, some data from a regular network Here is

how to suppress whiskers in a bwplot?
dear R-help, i have looked carefully through the R-help archives for information on how to suppress whiskers in a bwplot. someone asked this question a while ago, but the answer he received is not available in the archives. but i did manage to get my hands on a panel function (called "my.panel") that is supposed to do this (the function is reproduced at the end of the email, below).

Adjusting Font Size: lattice / bwplot
Hello, If you run the following code with lattice installed: bwplot(voice.part ~ height, data=singer, xlab="Height (inches)") There will be some text in the graph e.g. Soprano 1, Soprano 2, etc - 60, 65, etc and the title: Height (Inches). How can one make the font for this text larger and/or bold? Also, is there a way to thicken or bold the lines of the box and whisker plot? Thank

[PATCH] Always use mipmaps in cube plugin
Currently, the cube plugin uses mipmapping only when cube is unfolded. When the cube is rotated, mipmaps are not used, which leads to ugly look of textures. The attached patch fixes this. This leads to another kind of artifacts, which are fixable with anisotropic filtering. http://team.pld-linux.org/~wolf/aniso.png The leftmost image is the current state of cube plugin. FGLRX using Aiglx??
Hi! AFAIK FGLRX doesnt support glx_ext_texture_from_pixmap, and enabling composite+dri is resulting in screen corruption even with 8.38.6. Then how are you guys running it without XGL? Re: some problems with windows(rescale=) (PR#794)
Part 1) is basically that the initial rescaling is done if the window is too large to fit on the screen. That's true and obvious (no scrollbars) and intentional and on the help page. As ever, you need to report bugs on what is documented, not what you would like. This will be changed for 1.2.1, but was several hours' work. I have also cleaned up the scrollbar behaviour. Part 2) I just

A plotting question - how to get error bars?
Dear R list, Can anyone help with a plotting question? I'm trying to display some data on a plot and I've almost got the format I need (see code below), but 2 things I can't get: 1. How to get "Jan","Feb","Mar" on the x=axis instead of 1:3? 2. How to get "T"s on the end of my error bars like you have in standard scientific plots? Any comments

clipping viewports
Dear useRs, Why are the rotated blue and yellow boxes in the example below clipped outside of 6 x 6 inch window in the middle of the page?? Where does the 6 x 6 inch window come from? I would like to make use of the entire page. > library(grid) > pdf(file = "FarmMaps.pdf", paper = "a4") > pushViewport(viewport( + width = unit(7.6, "inches"), height =

bug in map('world') ?
hi, did'nt see anything in the archive: map('world',pro='rectangular',para=0) yields a strange artifact (horizontal bar) extending over the whole map at a certain latitude range (approx 65 deg. north), whereas map('world',pro='rectangular',para=180) (which should be the same) does not show the artifact. the artifact shows up in other projections as well,

basic bwplot query
Hi - I have some data consisting of a number of observations within each of 15 countries. Each country falls into one of two groups. I'd like to use the lattice library's bwplot to present boxplots of the country-level data, with a separate panel for each group, but showing only the relevant countries in each panel. Here's an analogous example using the "singer" data

boxplot - label outliers
Hi All- I have 24 boxplots on one graph. I do not have the whiskers extending to the outliers, but I would like to label the maximum value of each outlier above the whiskers. I have the stats but am having trouble figuring out how to label the whiskers. Any suggestions would be great! sherri

GAMs and isotropic bivariate functions with mgcv
Hi there, I was wondering if by the way the isotropic bivariate function works in the mgcv package, one can use highly correlated coordinates (given the shape of the study area) without worrying about the potential problems of correlation between explanatory variables, i.e., does s(LON, LAT) deal with that by considering their combined effect? Although this sounds more like a statistical

Obtaining figures with exactly placed points
Dear list, I have to plot some geometrical shape given as list of points. My need is the following: let's say my shape is a 1 inch large square; how can I plot it with R in a graphic format that gives me an image *exactly* 1 inch large? I tried to set oma, mar and fin parameters, but with no success. I'm currently using the xfig driver for the final images are to be included in latex

bus error /segmentation fault from 'approx' (PR#7177)
Full_Name: joerg van den hoff Version: 1.9.1 OS: MacOS and SunOS Submission from: (NULL) (149.220.4.88) follow up to ID 7166. something like approx(c(1,2),c(NA,NA),1.5,rule=2) crashes 1.9.1 on both systems (MacOS 10.3.5.: bus error, SunOS 5.9: segmentation fault) even if xout is within given x range (as in example above) where rule=2 seems not be relevant anyway.

gboxplot (JMP Diamond plot in R?)
I am looking to replicate the functionality of the JMP diamond plot in R. I have found the following enhancement and no other references(see below). I have tried to contact the author via email and I have had no luck. Does any know if this functionality exists in R? If it does not does anyone know how to contact the author of the enhancement request? "Hi, I experimented with a set of S

non-stationary covariance
Hi ! Sorry for my ignorance. I have two questions: 1) which is in R the function to make a covariogram of spatial data ? 2) does anyone know if there exist the possibility in R of performing kriging with an arbitrary covariance function ? If I have well understood the Krig procedure offers only three possibilities (expcov, gauscov and sphercov) that are the common models for stationary and

accessing the indices of outliers in a data frame boxplot
I have a data frame containing columns which are factors. I use this to make boxplots for the data, with one box per factor. I would now like to get at the data in the data frame which corresponds to the outliers. I have so far found the $out, which gives "the values of any data points which lie beyond the extremes of the whiskers", but I haven't found anything which will let me get
