active/active failover
Dear all, I'm rather new to glusterfs but have some experience running lager lustre and beegfs installations. These filesystems provide active/active failover. Now, I discovered that I can also do this in glusterfs, although I didn't find detailed documentation about it. (I'm using glusterfs 3.10.8) So my question is: can I really use glusterfs to do failover in the way described

active/active failover
Hi Stefan, I think what you propose will work, though you should test it thoroughly. I think more generally, "the GlusterFS way" would be to use 2-way replication instead of a distributed volume; then you can lose one of your servers without outage. And re-synchronize when it comes back up. Chances are if you weren't using the SAN volumes; you could have purchased two servers

active/active failover
Hi Alex, Thank you for the quick reply! Yes, I'm aware that using ?plain? hardware with replication is more what GlusterFS is for. I cannot talk about prices where in detail, but for me, it evens more or less out. Moreover, I have more SAN that I'd rather re-use (because of Lustre) than buy new hardware. I'll test more to understand what precisely "replace-brick"

Sys.getenv(): Error in substring(x, m + 1L) : invalid multibyte string at '<ff>' if an environment variable contains \xFF
Tomas, I think you're not addressing the actual issue which is a clear regression in Sys.getenv() [because it used to work and still works for single env var, but not a list] and the cryptic error due to that regression (caused by changes in R-devel). So in either case, Sys.getenv needs fixing (i.e., this should really go to the bugzilla). Its behavior is currently inconsistent. The quoted

Sun Gridengine and Centos
G'day. I'm having a little trouble getting Gridengine 5.3 running properly on a cluster using Centos 3.3. Everything appears okay, but my jobs hang in the queue with the gridengine complaining that node is overloaded, but there is nothing (unusual) running on the node and the load is 0. Has anyone else run into similar problems? -geoff

GridEngine-OpenSSH integration
Hi, GridEngine (http://gridengine.sunsource.net, aka. SGE) is an opensource batch system for clusters. They have an integration with SSH: http://gridengine.sunsource.net/project/gridengine/howto/qrsh_ssh.html The idea is that instead of using a modified rsh/rshd, they wanted to OpenSSH. However, in order to provide full job control, they need to add a few hooks in OpenSSH. Question: - Is it OK

Feature request: Integration with GridEngine
Hi, I opened an enchancement request: http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1070 I am hoping that the patch can get into the standard OpenSSH source tree, so that users just need to download the latest version of OpenSSH tarball and build an integrated sshd themselves. Please let me know any further changes are needed. Thanks, -Ron __________________________________________________

R "capabilities" on a cluster node
R version 2.5.1 (2007-06-27) I' running some simple R jobs via the Sun Grid Engine on our Linux cluster in preparation for some bigger ones. I checked R's capabilities on the cluster nodes (after failing to create a png file) and am getting the following warning message: [Run on a cluster node using qrsh:] > capabilities() jpeg png tcltk X11 http/ftp sockets

mkdir -p, cp -R fails
Dear all, I have problem with glusterfs 3.12.4 mkdir -p fails with "no data available" when umask is 0022, but works when umask is 0002. Also recursive copy (cp -R or cp -r) fails with "no data available", independly of the umask. See below for an example to reproduce the error. I already tried to change transport from rdma to tcp. (Changing the transport works, but

ctrl-c doesn''t work in domU consoles
Hey, I''ve installed Xen 3.0 on a freshly installed Debian Sarge. dom0 is working nicely (kernel 2.6.12.6-xen0). Then I created a domU, again with Debian Sarge, booting Xen''s vmlinuz-2.6.12-xenU. Unfortunately ctrl-c does not work in the domU''s console, neither if I create the domU with "xm create -c ..." nor if I attach to it later. It doesn''t matter

Font issue faced in RHEL 3 (7), not in RHEL 4
Font issue faced in RHEL 3 (7), not in RHEL 4 I am facing a font problem with RHEL3 update7. I have installed wine 0.9.23 from rpm. In case of RHEL4 fonts are being used from /usr/share/wine/fonts/ that are already packaged with rpm. But in case of RHEL3 this folder isnt being used. Although i have added the entry in config file and used ttmkfdir for creating the .scale and .dir files. When i put

Package parallel left orphan processes, how to clean-up?
Hi, I've using package DEXSeq that implements functions with nCores for speed-up. The functions work fine, but I found out that the children processes were not terminated, they still hold memory, and new command will start up new children processes. So if I don't manually kill those orphan processes, they will cause problem. I was qlogin to SGE cluster node to run R. From our

mkdir -p, cp -R fails
Dear all, I identified the source of the problem: if i set "server.root-squash on", then the problem is 100% reproducible, with "server.root-squash off", the problem vanishes. This is true for glusterfs 3.12.3, 3.12.4 and 3.12.6 (haven't tested other versions) best wishes, Stefan -- Dr. Stefan Solbrig Universit?t Regensburg, Fakult?t f?r Physik, 93040 Regensburg,

Hi, I just set up my mail server using postfix / dovecot / mysql and it works well. I just have a problem : I'm a trying to have a overquota notification and the server sends nothing (mail server rejects incoming mail). Could you tell me if there is a problem with dovecot or postfix configuration? Kind regards,Long My conf : # 2.1.7: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf# OS: Linux 2.6.32-26-pve x86_64
