Qs on calling R from C
Consider the following simple C program: /*** hello_r.c ***/ #include <Rinternals.h> SEXP hello() { return mkString("Hello, world!\n"); } int main(void) { SEXP x = hello(); return x == NULL; /* i.e. 0 on success */ } This program segfaults: % myR/bin/R CMD LINK gcc -I./R-2.9.0/src/include -L./myR/lib64/R/lib -lR hello_r.c -o hello_r > /dev/null % hello_r zsh:

problem with findFun call from embedded R
I was debugging a problem reported to me regarding PL/R, and found that I can duplicate it using only R sources. It might be characterized as possibly a misuse of the findFun() function, but I leave that for the R devel experts to decide. The below results are all with R-2.5.1 (I can't seem to download r-patched at the moment, but didn't see anything in the 2.5.1-patched release

bus error on calling nmmin
Hi, I'm trying to get a toy program making use of nmmin to run successfully. I've gotten to the point of compiling. However, when I attempt to run my executable, I guess a bus error. I see that someone else has asked about using nmmin before <http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/06/03/23944.html>, but I haven't come across any replies. Is there some documentation on how to

Custom C finalizers for .Call

Custom C finalizers for .Call
WRE explains that R_alloc() can be used to allocate memory which automatically gets released by R at the end of a .C, .Call or .External, even in the case of an error or interruption. This is a really great feature to prevent memory leaks. I was wondering if there is a way to extend this mechanism to allow for automatically running UNPROTECT and custom finalizers at the end of a .Call as well.

Windows gcc toolchain for R 3.2.0
To anyone following the Windows toolchain saga: The gcc 4.9.2 toolchain that is currently in Rtools33 has too many incompatibilities with existing code, so we won't be using it in the R 3.2.0 build. I will soon be uploading to CRAN a new version of Rtools33 that is very similar to Rtools32, containing gcc 4.6.3. We are continuing to work on the new toolchain, and hope to have it ready

Errors in Compiling R
I am having trouble compiling R-1.1.0 on a Sun Ultra 60 machine running Solaris 7. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. I modified the CPPFLAGS and LIBS variables in the config.site file. As far as I can tell, I have included all the non-standard headers and libraries installed on my Sun station. My GNU stuff is installed in /opt/Summertime_98.sparc/, and at the bottom of this message I

64bit build on IBM
I am trying to build R with 64bit support so I can access more than 2GB of memory on an IBM running AIX. (IBM NightHawk II RS/6000 node with 16 64-bit, 375-MHz POWER3 CPUs and 32 GB of memory, if you want specifics) The 32bit install required little tweaking, but the 64 bit is sufficiently complicated that I thought I would report my findings here and ask for help with the latest (and hopefully

C++ complains abouct Rprintf signature
Dear R-devel, My g++ complains about the first argument to Rprintf being non-const char *. For example when compiling the line Rprintf("hello world\n"); the following warning is emitted: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to 'char*' Is there a reason for the non-const? It is curious that Rf_error, which is similar to RPrintf, is const. If there is a need

Problem with R using pgi compiler on x86_64
Hi, we have installed R-2.8.1 using the current pgi compiler (8.0.2) for AMD64 on a SLES9 system. Porting R
I am trying to get R 1.0 running on the Mac. The main target is MacX. Anyone else working on that? For the recent Macintosh system, I am trying to compile R using MachTen. The R core compiles and runs without any changes, using the Unix make files. The libraries give some problems, presumably due to handling of shared libraries. It seems I am missing something to link. Before I spend my time

add Rvsnprintf to API ??
Could Rvsnprintf (in src/main/errors.c) be added to the R API with prototype in include/R_ext/Print.h say? Here's my problem. I'm trying to write some code that is not totally tied to R. Hence I want R style error messaging to be isolated in a small module. I do not want #include <R.h> and calls to error (Rf_error) in most of my code. Hence I want to write a module with something

PR#9295
I asked a question that might help me track down what changed between 2.3.1 that did build and the 2.4.0 version that will not build. Some of the undefined names the linker was complaining about looked like #define symbols that were not picked up by configure. The first thing I was hoping for was to find out if this problem looked familiar? Whether or not, I'm willing to try to work on

use of buffers in sprintf and snprintf
No, that will make it even worse since you'll be declaring a lot more memory that you actually have. The real problem is that you're ignoring the truncation, so you probably want to use something like if (snprintf(tempname, sizeof(tempname), "%s.%d", of1name, j) >= sizeof(tempname)) Rf_error("file name is too long"); BTW: most OSes systems have a path limits that

Dear all, I try to understand why on my computer I do not clear all data with this code: #include <R.h> static int count = 0; class A { public: A(){ printf("c %d\n", count); count++; } ~A(){count--; printf("d %d\n", count); } }; extern "C" { void testAL(){ A a; { A b; } error("does not write [d 0]"); } }

RGtk2 on linux: "stack smashing detected"
Yea I am aware of this. This is because the Ubuntu binary has stack smashing detection enabled. It's possible to build R without this checking: export CFLAGS="-fno-stack-protector" I have not been able to figure out why stack smashing is detected. I'm cc'ing this to r-devel in case anyone else has an idea. Michael On Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:31 AM, Felix Andrews
