R CMD SHLIB problem [make: *** No rule to make target ]
Hy all,
I apologize for my ingenuity in regard to interfaces in R, but I do need it for my work. In that respect I took a simple and small example from the net (the "hello world", one) to interface R with C.
I have a Windows XP OS using R.2.5.0 and in that regard I have installed the Perl and RTools files to my PC. I also wrote a proper path file, as suggested.
The C program is:

Latest revision of lme4 requires 'Matrix' >= 0.995.2 but that version is not available on CRAN
I just updated the packages on my pc (windows xp). When loading lme4 I get

Error: package 'Matrix' 0.995-1 was found, but >= 0.995.2 is required by 'lme4'
'Matrix' 0.995-1 is indeed installed on my computer, but update.packages() does not capture a never version; and seemingly for good reasons: When looking at CRAN, the new version of Matrix is

LAPACK and BLAS libraries
Hi,
I don't know if I'm sending this to the right place but I've looked throught
tens and tens of topics on http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/ and finally
found that email address where I can maybe find some help.
Well my main goal is to get to use the lapack library within my R package
(which can be done using calls from C). But in order to do this I have to
create a file src/Makevars

RCMD check error windows
Dear Lister,
I am working with Windows XP and R 2.1.0 and can check and build
home-made packages easily (just *.r, *.rmd, *.rda files, no compiled
code). However for some reasons, I cannot check or build the package
'foreign' from the source (I took it as an exercise...). After some
lines of sentences OK (here omitted and replaced by ...), I get a
message like this:

gfortran: Command not found

How do I get information about the "R CMD check / build / install"
process, especially regarding what software to install and how to
configure it under Windows XP?
I ask, because "R CMD check" complained, "gfortran: Command not
found". I found 'gfortran-sjlj.exe' in 'C:\Program

safe_asterisk
I was looking at the shell in /usr/sbin and the following statement does not
seem right: while :; (read colon + semi colon).
In C that would be 2xsemi-colon. is this correct in a bash shell?
I am having problems with safe_asterisk. when it dies, it is not being
brought up again. It works very well for stop/start/startus but does not
bring up asterisk when it fails.

installed the libjpeg, libtiff and libpng files though. I have upzipped

problem building an R package under Windows XP with calls to NAG C routines
Hello all,
I was able to create R packages under windows XP in the past using the
dynamic NAG C library for windows XP (Mark 6).
Recently, I changed computers and I am now using the static NAG C library
for windows XP (Mark 7) to create a simple R package (called "test") which
simply returns random numbers simulated using repetitive calls to a NAG C
routine (uniform random

Building R from source

I was trying to build R from source on Windows XP. I installed software which are mentioned from the follow web page http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ (Last accessed on Nov. 13th, 2006) .
