internet.R test hangs if http proxy needed (PR#3108)
Full_Name: Barry Rowlingson Version: 1.7.0 OS: RH8/Mandrake 9.1 Submission from: (NULL) (194.80.32.8) internet.R in the tests directory hangs during 'make check' if an http proxy is needed for http access from the machine. This happens in the httpget function defined therein. It tries to make a direct socket connection to port 80 of a remote machine, and if local network policy does not

difftime arithmetic (PR#2345)
Full_Name: Barry Rowlingson Version: 1.6.0 OS: RH8 i386 Submission from: (NULL) (148.88.136.205) Strange things happen if I premultiply a difftime() object with a number. Example: > d1 <- difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) > d2 <- 1 * difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) > d3 <- difftime(Sys.time(),Sys.time()) * 1 > d1 Time difference of 0 secs - thats fine > d2 [1] 0

Runnable R packages
I see some value in Duncan?s proposal to implement this as an extra package instead of a change to base R, if only to see if the idea has legs. I?m minded to do so myself using your suggestion, but is there a particular reason why you recommend using the remotes package instead of devtools? The latter seems to have the same functions I would need, and I believe it is more widely installed that

which points within an ellipsoid? Sorting data in 3d
Hello, in a three dimensional coordinate system, I'd like to find all my experimental data points that fall within an ellipsoid around a fixed coordinate. The fixed point is defined by (x.coord.point, y.coord.point, z.coord.point). The coordinates of the ellipsoid are given by the three vectors x,y,z. In a previous version of my code, I simply used a box instead of an ellipsoid to sort

help with scatterplot3d
Hello, I am having a bit of trouble with scatterplot3d(). I was able to plot a 3d cloud of points using the following code: >my.3dplot<-scatterplot3d(my.coords, pch=19, zlim=c(0,1), scale.y=0.5, angle=30, box=FALSE) where my.coords is a data frame that contains x, y, and z coordinates for grid points whose elevation we sampled. The problem occurs when I try to add points using points3d.

question about cloud() in lattice package
Hi all, I have been previously been using scatterplot3d package to create some graphs but unfortunately it does not allow me to rotate the plot on all three axis. The cloud() function in the lattice package does allow me to do so. When I was using scatterplot3d I was using a script (Shown Below) to calculate the mean, quartiles and range limits for all three axis and I was representing that on the

FW: Maps and plotting
Thanks for the help on the translucent dots. What would be the best method for creating a map of the facility? I looked into map* in the libraries and didn't find anything on creating the maps, just using them. Thanks again... Arrow and text on a 3d plot
I am currently working on surface plots (with R 2.0.1) and I want to improve the aspect of them. Having a typical 'cow-boy hat' surface [source: Spector (1994), p. 206]: pts <- seq(from = -8, to = 8, length = 50) cow <- function(x, y) { z <- sqrt(x^2+y^2) sin(z)/z } out <- outer(pts, pts, cow) sur <- persp(x=pts, y=pts, z=out, theta=45, phi=30) What I exactly wanted is:

Runnable R packages
Would you care to share how your package installs its own dependencies? I assume this is done during the call to `main()`? (Last time I checked, R CMD INSTALL would not install a package's dependencies...) A question regarding Wireframe in Package Lattice
Hello, The following code produces a quadrilateral: q<-matrix(c(1,3,1,2,3,1,2,4,2,1,4,2),nrow=4,byrow=T) qc<-xyz.coords(q) wireframe(z~y*x,qc) I have 2 questions 1) How can i remove the bounding box i.e the cube encompassing the quadrilateral? 2) Is there any function to get the 2D coordinates of the quadrilateral actually used in the final plot ? I could manually

[External] Re: capture "->"
Dear Barry, In general, I believe users are already accustomed with the classical arrows "->" and "<-" which are used as such in quoted expressions. But I agree that "-.>" is a very neat trick, thanks a lot. A small dot, what a difference. setting the legend scale in contour plots
Hi, I'd like to compare SST data for year 2000 with SST for year 2001. I managed to get filled contour plots showing monthly SST for both years (12 plots for each year, 24 plots in total). In order to compare year 2000 and year 2001, however, I'd need to have the same legend scale (same color bar) in both years plots. Thus, my question is: is there a way to set the legend scale in

overlaid filled contour plots
I'm trying to make a set of contour plots of bivariate kernel density estimates, showing three such plots overlaid, similar to this plot http://euclid.psych.yorku.ca/SCS/Private/Test/ridge-boot2.pdf except that I would like to have the contours *filled* (using transparent colors). To make this reproducible, I've saved the results of KernSmooth::bkde2D() in the following file:
