I need help in the recursive problem. this is my code

How to check cy5 and cy3 values were lowess normalized
Hi,
I have some microarray data, cy5 and cy3 values are in log2. Is there a
way to check they have undergone lowess normalization ?
Thanks

Q: selecting a name when it is known as a string
I am 100% certain that there is an easy way to do this, but after
experimenting off and on for a couple of days, and searching everywhere I
could think of, I haven't been able to find the trick.
I have this piece of code:
...
attach(d)
if (ORDINATE == 'ds')
{ lo <- loess(percent ~ ncms * ds, d, control=loess.control(trace.hat =
'approximate'))

Please make lowess() generic (was: Reorganization of pac kagesin the R distribution)
I don't really see the point. lowess() is a two-dimensional smoother only
so the main point would only be to allow lowess(y ~ x, dat) instead of
lowess(dat$x, dat$y).

Please make lowess() generic (was: Reorganization of packages in the R distribution)
As I've mentioned a number of times. I find it very useful to have lowess()
become a generic function so that a lowess.formula() can be defined.
Below is a patch that makes both changes, as well as updating the
corresponding help documentation.

The lowess() help page refers to documentation in "src/appl/lowess.doc".
This was moved to "src/library/stats/src/lowess.doc" in 2007. This

S4 generic for lowess
Hi,
A lowess method is defined in our package for one of our S4 classes. To
explicitely define the generic this is being used
if (!isGeneric("lowess"))
setGeneric("lowess", useAsDefault = lowess)
This works fine for many other methods inherited from various R
packages. In this case a warning is issued in R CMD check:

Bounded Density Estimation
Hello:
I have been using R and the locfit package for Unix/Linux for a
little while. However, I have had some trouble, as I am trying to do
density estimation for bounded independent variables. There is some
discussion in the density estimation book by Azzalini, but none in the
book by C Loader (creator of locfit). Also, the variables that I am
working on are bounded on both sides, not just

Fun and games with lowess()
This is not a "help" request, just an experience with R that I found
amusing.
I have a machine learning module that I teach which was originally all
symbolic, but has a slowly growing numeric/statistical component.
Today I taught a two part lecture on instance based methods for
learning, with the first half being simple KNN, then kernel methods for
regression. The second half was using

objects of class "matrix" and mode "list"?
Hello everyone,
I cannot seem to find information about objects of class "matrix" and mode
"list", and how to handle them (apart from flattening the list). I get this
type of object from using sapply(). Sorry for the long example, but the code
below illustrates how I get this type of object. Is anyone aware of
documentation regarding this object?
Thanks very much,
Stephen

lines(lowess()) trouble
hi: apologies for taking up everyone's time. my problem is probably
documented somewhere, but I again cannot find it. (which reminds me: I cannot
find a search engine that allows me to search the archives of this very useful
mailing list.)
* it seems that lines(lowess()) fails to plot certain line segments. (and,
what does it do at the x-min and x-max of a data set?) Rather than

how to sample lowess/loess into matrix ?
code:
x <- rnorm(32)
y <- rnorm(32)
plot(x,y)
lines(lowess(x,y),col='red')
Now I need to sample the lowess function into matrix where one series will
be X and other will be values of lowess at particular X.

lowess() as a generic function
Hi All,
I've been providing a generic version of lowess() in my 'gregmisc' library,
along with a 'lowess.formula' and 'lowess.default'.
Can/should these be moved into base?

xyplot with lowess curves
I am trying to change the attributes of the lowess lines fit to an
xyplot command, but have been unsuccessful in my search of the online
help. Right now, both the points and lowess line come out in the same
color (blue). I am unsure how I can change the properties of the lowess
line separately.

nonparametric logistic regression based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess)
Dear UseRs:
Recently, I have read an article regarding the association between age and
lymph node metastases.

In statistical analysis, the authors stated "Because a nonlinear
relationship between age and lymph node involvement was expected based on
existing literature, lymph node involvement was also regressed on age using

Confidence intervals on Lowess (eg SiZer from J.S.Marron)
Hi,
I have some very noisy, relatively sparse data; a biological response of
roughly
~8 subjects at ~8 times points). I've been following the data trend using a
lowess
line, over-plotted with several values of bandwidth, 'f <- seq(0.3, 0.9,
by=0.1)'.
At this point, we have no models for these data.
I wonder if there is any way under R to assign some sort of confidence
interval to

95% CI bands on a Lowess smoother
Hi there,
I'm plotting some glass RI values just by plotting
plot(x)
then I put on my lowess smoother
lines(lowess(x))
now I want to put on some 95% Confidence Interval bands of the lowess
smoother, but don't know how??
Thanks

How to set read.table variables to vectors?
The summary stats for the xin and yin variables below are correct. However,
if I use plot(xin, yin), an exception is thrown saying that "object xin is
not found."
Also, it is apparent that I can't successfully replace the x and y vectors
with values from xin and yin.
The four plots on one panel are showing but the range of x and y is only
[0,1], and therefore, it seems like an
