R-1.8.0 + IBM VisualAge/C for AIX compiler
A while ago I compiled R 1.7.0 for AIX (with the above compiler - I'll
call it xlc) and I was surprised that it went quite smoothly.
Unfortunately with R 1.8.0 it's not as easy, but I succeeded at least
partially. Static R works fine (after some tweaking), but
--enable-R-shlib fails resp. produces a buggy R. Following are the
problems I encountered (in a warning-to-fatal-error

problems compiling R on AIX5.1
Hello,
I'm trying to compile R (versions 1.6.0, 1.6.1, 1.6.2 and 1.7.0) on
our IBM Power3 Machine for an external user.
I always used to configure with
./configure --prefix=/scratch_tmp/harald/instala
I've never achieved to compile 1.7.0 because it seems that a file
called R.exp is missing (or maybe it's not well referenced on the
makefile).
Output of make:

Comments on the R-2.0.0 release (PR#7351)
Builds of the R-2.0.0 release have been considerably more successful
at my site than previous releases. I now have it installed on these
platforms:

Compaq Alpha Sierra OSF/1 5.1
Compaq/DEC Alpha OSF/1 4.0F

64bit build on IBM
I am trying to build R with 64bit support so I can access more than
2GB of memory on an IBM running AIX. (IBM NightHawk II RS/6000 node with 16
64-bit, 375-MHz POWER3 CPUs and 32 GB of memory, if you want specifics)
The 32bit install required little tweaking, but the 64 bit is sufficiently
complicated that I thought I would report my findings here and ask for
help with the latest (and hopefully

Dear All,
we're trying to implement R on the IBM p690 cluster "Jump" at the
research centre in J?lich, Germany (c.f.
http://www.fz-juelich.de/nic/Supercomputer/computer-e.html)
using the most recent version of R (2.1.0) and precisly following the
installation instructions.
After ./configure we get the final message:

Compiling on IBM AIX. The package 'cluster' causes trouble...
Hi (and Merry Christmas),
I am trying to compile R on an AIX IBM machine using
the native C and FORTRAN compilers... and everything

Any hint ?

Building R for AIX in 64-bit mode
Hi.
Just wanted to let you know I am getting close to packaging R for AIX in
64.bit mode.
One comment - the libtool.m4 I see used is quite old. The one I have on my
system is 2.4.6, and what I see in R says:
I am hoping a new libtool will clean up most of the manual work now needed.

R for AIX - guidance re: error messages requested
Hi all,
With the bug in tre identified I am trying to move forward - one step at
a time.
As I am getting some errors that prevent make completing with version
3.2.3, and R-devel introduces new issues (that I will face when I get to
them) I would appreciate some guidance with output of "make check" (of
3.1.3) and the final message I run into when trying to build 3.2.3.

[R] R compile on AIX 5.2
Professor Ripley,
Following your advice, I am now using an updated version of gcc
(4.0.2 to be exact) as well as a true fortran compiler (XL Fortran
Compiler v10.1.0.0 from IBM). I am still experiencing difficulty in
running "make" after a successful "configure". Any additional insight
you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Output of make is as

Building R in 64-bit mode
Hope I am not sounding too much like a broken record - as far as 64-bit
