R as shared library
Hello folks, I'm embarking on a project to embed R into the Apache web server, and I'd like your help. Currently, I'm looking for a way for R code to call back into a shared library from which the R shared library was loaded. Essentially, apache starts and loads mod_R.so which runs an initialization routine which calls Rf_initEmbeddedR() and the following code: /* override to

Infinite loop running Mod_R/Rapache
I installed mod_r according to the specifications, and have been trying to get the demo script to work correctly. I am running debian, the latest build of R, apache 2 with prefork mpm, and the latest mod_r. Is anyone else using this module successfully? I added: LoadModule R_module mod_R.so <Location /test/hello> SetHandler r-handler Rsource /var/www/html/test.R RreqHandler

Embedding R and registering routines
Hello, The use of .Call and the like all depend on loading shared libraries and registering routines from it. Also, .Primitive and .Internal depend on routines being registered in the R binary. And applications that embed R can override routines declared in Rinterfac.h, but is there a way for an application embedding R to register other routines defined in the application without loading a

Best way to determine if you're running 32 or 64 bit R on windows
Hi, Is this sufficient? if (.Machine$sizeof.pointer==4){ cat('32\n') } else { cat('64\n') } Or is it better to test something in R.version, say os? I'd like to use this to specify appropriate linker arguments when building the RMySQL windows package. Jeff -- http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/JeffreyHorner

RMySQL compile
I am trying to install RMySQL on OpenSolaris and need to pass some options to configure. Tried the 3 recommended ways of doing it and nothing works, configure cannot find the headers and the libs. I ran configure manually and that worked fine ./configure CC=cc CFLAGS="-dalign -KPIC -xlic_lib=sunperf" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/sfw/lib

Multiple assignments in one statement
Is this possible? For instance, I have a function that returns a vector length 3. In one statement I'd like to assign each element of the vector to different variables. Syntactically, I hoped this would work: c(x,y,z) <- myfun(); Thanks, -- Jeffrey Horner Computer Systems Analyst School of Medicine 615-322-8606 Department of Biostatistics Vanderbilt University

When collected warnings exceeds 50
Hi, I've been tracking down a memory leak in an rApache application, http://data.vanderbilt.edu/rapache/bbplot. The code was deployed in 2007 and has survived numerous upgrades of both R and rApache (including upgrades and bugs in RMySQL). It's written in such a way so that web crawlers will download every possible URL the app will create. It's not a high-traffic app, but just about

problem with vignettes when S4 classes in packages overlap
( A similar problem is also reported by Sebastian P. Luque with library(maptools) library(trip) in the vignette as below ). I am writing a vignette which loads RMySQL and RPostgreSQL. This produces the warning: Loading required package: DBI Warning in .simpleDuplicateClass(def, prev) : A specification for class ?dbObjectId? in package ?RPostgreSQL? seems equivalent to one from package

New project: littler for GNU R
What ? ====== littler - Provides hash-bang (#!) capability for R (www.r-project.org) Why ? ===== GNU R, a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics, provides a wonderful system for 'programming with data' as well as interactive exploratory analysis, often involving graphs. Writing character vectors with embedded nulls to a connection
Is this possible? I've tried both writeChar() and writeBin() to no avail. My goal is to serialize(ascii=FALSE) an object to a connection but determine the size of the serialized object before hand: sobject <- serialize(object,NULL,ascii=FALSE) len <- nchar(sobject) # # run some code here to notify listener on other end of connection # how many bytes I'm getting ready to send #

Problems with RMySQL and MySQL server version 5.1
For those R user's who don't subscribe to R-sig-db and are having troubles with the latest RMySQL binary on CRAN, please read the email thread at the end of this message. RMySQL 0.7-2 does work with MySQL 5.1, however the CRAN binary is linked against the 5.0 version. What ? ------ We are pleased to announce version 0.0.6 of littler What's new ? ------------ This version includes a bug fix or two as well as a number of small enhancements to the documentation. S4 coerce
(I am not sure if this is a bug or a request for a more understandable warning, or possible something obvious I should be posting on r-help.) S4 classes in existing packages
R-devel, I'm interested in looking at some examples of existing R packages that rely heavily on S4 classes to get a feel for varying styles and package organization techniques. Could you recommend any packages that might serve as a good starting point? Thanks in advance, Jeff
