Problem Sweaving vignettes: MiKTeX's texi2dvi reports errors
Hi, I am trying to create a Bioconductor package. Everything installs and checks fine. Now I'm on my last step, which is to create a vignette. I'm trying to test the Sweave process, to make sure I can build a vignette. I am stuck at the texi2dvi stage, which fails when I try to process the example Sweave-test-1.tex file. I am using Windows binary R distributions, and have the same

r-base build: failure to convert R-FAQ to pdf
We have received an email in Ubuntu alerting us that something strange was going on during the r-base 2.7.1 rc build (see [1]). It seems that there is an error during the convertion of R-FAQ.texi to pdf. The following excerpt, taken from [2], shows the problem: /bin/sh: line 0: test: too many arguments TEXINPUTS=".:$TEXINPUTS" /usr/bin/texi2dvi --texinfo="@set UseExternalXrefs

installation: while running make, unable to run pdflatex on 'NEWS.tex'
A kind member of R-core suggested this is due to a misconfiguration on my system, and to post it to the mailing list for troubleshooting. When trying to build R version 4.3.3, in at least two places during the process it gives LaTeX errors of the form: (example 1) you should 'make docs' now ... make[1]: Entering directory '/home/btyner/R-4.3.3/doc' creating

the tag Obsoletes: in spec files
How exactly to use the tag "Obsoletes:" in a spec file ? I need to offer texlive to users on Centos-5.6, so I packaged it (based on a Mandriva src.rpm), and that works. But I want rpm to *replace* tetex by texlive, instead of just adding texlive, when users do a : $ yum install texlive (we have a local repo here). So I added this line in texlive.spec : Obsoletes: tetex and of

PDF output
Markdown speaks to a project I've engaged for nearly a decade. Ever since I cobbled up an Apple Newton keyboard to connect to my Pilot 5000, I wanted to type plain text with formatting for later printing. Class notes and such. Once I wrote a complex WordPerfect script using custom markup. For a while I wrote raw TeX, relying on a macro file to simplify things only a little. Upon

Sweave and font problems
Dear All, Having now successfully started using Sweave, I have just noticed an odd side effect with fonts. Using plain LaTeX, I have had no problems using \usepackage{palatino} or \usepackage{times} and the font correctly changes. However, once I convert the tex document into Snw, and run it through R CMD SWEAVE, LaTeX seems to ignore this package directive. The LaTeX log suggests the font

Sweave and size10.clo
Using Sweave on Windows (MikTeX 2.5 and R 2.4.1), I've ran into a bit of a problem with the tex -> DVI process. First, I've corrected the common \usepackage error by using \usepackage{"C:/Program Files/R/R-2.4.1/share/texmf/Sweave"} to get around the spacing problem. That is, LaTeX is finding the Sweave.sty, which has been a common problem in past postings here. However, my

Windows vignettes, shQuote, texi2dvi
I noticed a shQuote fix for Windows in the svn logs. Just wanted to point out that this will favorably affect texi2dvi on Windows which previously used UNIX quoting and so generated an incorrect Windows command. (Note that texi2dvi is used when creating vignettes.) Another problem is that the recommended tex distribution for Windows, fptex, does not have texi2dvi in the first place. The

symbol size on a plot
Hi, I would like to get from a plot the size of the symbols plotted. Imagine I have the following plot function : plot(1:2,1:2, pch=15, cex=4) I would like the get the values SIZE1 and SIZE2 so that if I plot the following rectangle : rect(1.5,1.5, 1.5+SIZE1, 1.5+SIZE2) then the size of this square is exactely the same as the one of the symbols that have been plotted. Thanks for any idea. --
