HP-UX and IRIX recent builds? Any other rare platforms?
I am revising the section in R-admin on platforms. When I asked about
locales earlier this year I got no reply about HP-UX and IRIX, so I will
presume that no one has built R on those OSes recently. If you have,
please send me the OS number and the flags you used.
Platforms where I have seen recent reports:
Linux
MacOS X
Solaris 8, 9, 10 (any Solaris 7 users please let me know)

Add -D_XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED definition for HP/UX 11.00 platform
Hi,
I suggest to add the following definition to configure and its template
configure.in to allow samba-2.2.x to be compiled on HP/UX 11.00 with
some lesser warnings. Without this definition you'll get warnings on all
socket operation because the socket operations are UNIX98 specific and
HP/UX 11.00 will support this when _XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED is defined.

Cisco 7960 Sounds patchy.
I have gotten the Cisco 7960 working with my Asterisk system under SIP.
The version is 5.03 that I am using. Cisco Support said I should not
upgrade to version 6 yet. My next question is the sound is patchy when
people here me. But I can hear them just fine not patchy. I have the
188 page Admin manual and it seem not to say anything about improving
the sound. All other phones like IPDialog work

FWD: [patch] scp + UTF-8
Hi,
Martijn sent the following patch to me in private and agreed that i post
it here.
In any other program in OpenBSD base, i'd probably agree with the
basic approach. Regarding OpenSSH, however, i worry whether wcwidth(3)
can be used. While wcwidth(3) is POSIX, it is not ISO C. Does
OpenSSH target platforms that don't provide wcwidth(3)? If so,
do you think the problem can be solved

Encoding errors in Rd files
Well, I'm working on project trying to bring back an old package last
published on R 1.9 back to life.
I'm almost there but I am getting killed by an encoding error in the Rd
files
After reading the manual, I decided to try UTF-8. Mostly because I could
spell it. ha.
That got me a bit closer but I still have these warnings

Cannot run OpenSSH 3.1p1 on Solaris 8, Irix 6.5.14, Irix 6.5.4, SunOS 4.1.3_U1 - ssh-rand-helper child produced insufficient data
I have successfully compiled OpenSSH 3.1p1 for the following systems:
Solaris 8
Solaris 7
Irix 6.5.14
Irix 6.5.4
SunOS 4.1.3_U1
Unfortunately, the new sshd is not working on any of the above systems
with the exception of Solaris 7. (I then put the Solaris 7 executables
on Solaris 8, and they worked there too.)
This is the error I'm getting:
$ /usr/etc/sshd -D -d -d -d

utmpx/wtmpx problems with 2.5.1p2 on irix...
I installed 2.5.1p2 on an irix system and noticed that if a user logged
in typed "logname" it was providing the wrong username. File creations
were correct, "w" produces the correct output....so something is funky
in p2 that wasn't there in p1.

R-2.1.0 is released
I've rolled up R-2.1.0.tar.gz a short while ago. This version contains
several substantial changes and additions, perhaps most notably the
UTF8 and Internationalization changes. See the full list of changes
below.
You can get it from
http://cran.r-project.org/src/base/R-2/R-2.1.0.tar.gz
or wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site nearer to you. Binaries
for various platforms will appear in

[LLVMdev] Porting LLVM to irix.
Greetings!
As part of a compiler project I am working on, I am interested in
porting LLVM to Irix/MIPS. I figure I could start by working with the
bytecode to C translation part of LLVM. However, when I run configure,
llvm is saying that it does not recognize the host I am working with.
Are there any documents about how to port to a new OS/Instruction set?
Thanks,
Timothy

Irix job limits patch
I've finished the 2.3 patch for Irix job limits. It's a bit longer than
a couple of lines. The bulk of the patch changes the configuration files to
enable the job limits support on Irix. The meat of the change is in
session.c where the new job containter is created at the same point as the
other Irix specific actions.

IRIX 5.3 permanently_set_uid problem
Hello,
I have tried running OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 on an Indy running IRIX 5.3. It
compiled and installed without any problems.
However, I get the fatal error, which originates from uidswap.c in
function permanently_set_uid():
fatal: permanently_set_uid: was able to restore old [e]uid
This happens even if "UsePrivilegeSeparation no" is used in sshd_config.
It seems to be a problem

Mounting NT File System from a IRIX machine.
Hello Everybody !
We have a LAN network consisting mostly of Win NT machines, with a couple
of Win 95 boxes and a IRIX-based Samba server.
Is there a way that i can mount the file system of a NT box onto my IRIX box
? Can i write directly to a
NT box from IRIX box ? Do i require NFS for that ?
Thanks in advance !

PATH problem in Irix.
I recently compiled openssh 3.4p1 for SGI Irix, and found the same problem
I'd had with 2.5.
Viz. that Irix /usr/include/paths.h defines _PATH_USERPATH, not USER_PATH,
so that defines.h doesn't find it and we get the default, which is missing
/usr/bsd (which on Irix has things like head, more, lpr) and /usr/bin/X11.
This annoys the users, who want X11 to work.
I added a test to
