problem with R CMD build (PR#7240)
Hello,
This may not be a bug--but I'm not sure. I have R 1.91 installed on a
machine that's running Windows XP. In Cygwin, when I attempt to use the
"build" command it tells me that TMPDIR is set to an invalid directory.
See the results below:

patch: allow R CMD build exclude patterns to match symlinks
The following is a patch (svn diff) for the R CMD build script that
calculates exclude patterns after the tar/untar step rather than before. The
perl find() function, used in the calculation of the exclude patterns,
ignores symlinks, which meant that directory symlinks were not considered
for exclusion. Since the tar/untar step resolves (copies) symlinks, this
works around that limitation.

how to build specific doc types in Windows
I am building R packages using R 1.7.0pat under Windows 2000 Professional.
All works fine except that I haven't been able to figure out how to use the
--docs=TYPE option. I would like to optionally turn off building chm help.
I have tried build commands like
rcmd build --binary --docs=TYPE mypackagename
In place of "TYPE" I have tried things like "html",

KMO sampling adequacy and SPSS -- partial solution
Dear colleagues,
I've been searching for information on the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO)
Measure of Sampling Adequacy (MSA). This statistic is generated in
SPSS and is often used to determine if a dataset is "appropriate" for
factor analysis -- it's true utility seems quite low, but it seems to
come up in stats classes a lot. It did in mine, and a glance through

Problems runing R CMD check
Hello!
I have a problem checking the package. Firstly, I do not know how to specify
the package to check. I tied specify it by supplying the path and by runing
the R CMD check in the directory of the package.
In addition to that, I get an error bellow. Any suggestions on how to set
TMPDIR would be greatly appriciated!

Windows R CMD build <pkg> leftovers
A command
R CMD build <pkg>
that fails, e.g., because of C code compilation errors, leaves a
directory %TMPDIR%/Rinst.xxx containing the file R.css. Although R
CMD INSTALL --build cleans up after itself, build does not. A fix is
below. Also, build.in references Rcmd.exe, which I thought was no
longer necessary?

R CMD check . segfault on re-building vignettes
(Warning: There is some potential that this message is redundant.)
I think that i have spotted an issue with R CMD check that does not
trace back to a rare case, so it must have been reported already or i am
doing something stupid. However, to be sure and because I did not find
any comments on this while searching the R mailing lists, here is what i
did:

best method to format output of frequency table
I have some security alert log data that I'm parsing and doing some stats on.
One of the fields is the "Classtype" which is the enumerated value of the
type of alert found.
classtypes = factor( alerts$Classtype )
fclass_types = table( classtypes )
fclass_types gives me a frequency table of the intrusion types:

file.copy(src, src, recursive=TRUE) causes a segfault (Was: Re: R CMD check . segfault on re-building vignettes)
It appears that file.copy() does not protect against the case when one
copies one directory to a subdirectory of itself resulting in it
trying to create and endless recursive copy of itself.
REPRODUCIBLE EXAMPLE:
src <- "foo"
dir.create(src);
file.copy(src, src, recursive=FALSE) # ok
file.copy(src, src, recursive=TRUE) # PROBLEM

Simple question about error on CSV import
I have a substantial CSV to import but can't seem to import even the
simplest CSV.
I'm running the latest stable REvolution R on OS X if that is pertinent.
Here's the contents of a simple test2.csv CSV file:

Issues with TMPDIR/TEMP/TMP? Failure of R CMD check under Windows 7
Dear helpeRs,
on my Windows 7 laptop, I have problems getting R CMD check to work. I
believe it did work completely before, but I am not sure.
Yesterday it almost worked, except for the tests: These were aborted
because of a complaint that the temporary directory wasn't available. I
played with windows environment variables for the temporary directory,
but that didn't solve it.

rpart question
Wondered about the best way to control for input variables that have a
large number of levels in 'rpart' models. I understand the algorithm
searches through all possible splits (2^(k-1) for k levels) and so
variables with more levels are more prone to be good spliters... so I'm
looking for ways to compensate and adjust for this complexity.
For example, if two variables produce

Unable to Access Inet via HostAP
Hello,
Thanx in advance to anyone who can help me get this going. I have
tinkered around and around with this and I have it functioning as a
visible access point that I can connect to. My problem comes in when
trying to access the internet. I''m not an iptables guru or anything but
I got the following as my iptables startup to supposedly masq the
connection correctly:

Simple as.Date question dealing with a timezone offset
I've been trying to understand the as.Date functionality and I have a date
and time stamp field that looks like this:
"Tue Sep 15 09:22:09 -0600 2009"
and I need to turn it into an R Date object for analysis.
Simple date conversions I have down, no problem:
> adate = c("7/30/1959")
> as.Date(adate,"%m/%d/%Y")

[PATCH nbdkit 8/9] eval, sh: Set $tmpdir before running the command, instead of globally.
The $tmpdir environment variable is used by the eval and sh plugins to
communicate the path to the temporary directory created by the plugin
for shell scripts to use for temporary files.
Previously we set this environment variable globally (in .load()), but
this means the environment variable can be leaked into undesirable
places, eg. into the --run script:
$ nbdkit sh - --run 'echo
