axis and tick widths decoupled (especially in rugs!)
Hi! (a complete newby, but will not give up easily!) I was wondering if there is any way to decouple the axis and tick mark widths? As I understand they are both controlled by the lwd setting, and cannot be controlled independently? For example I might want to create major and minor ticks, which I now know how to do by superimposing two axes with different at settings, but what if I also wanted

Wishlist: specify the border color of boxes in legend() (PR#13913)
I could not find a way to specify the border color of the boxes drawn in a legend, so that the legend can match exactly the colors of the actual plot (e.g. in the case of two superimposed histograms which have different shading and different borders). Indeed, the legend function seems to hard code the color "black" for the borders in this call: rect2(left = xt, top = yt +

slanted ends of horizontal lines for certain line widths
Hello, if I plot a horizontal line, e.g., plot(c(1,2),c(1,1),xlim=c(0,3),lwd=2,type="l") or plot(c(1,2),c(1,1),xlim=c(0,3),lwd=4,type="l") then the left end (1st example) or both ends (2nd example) of the lines are not rectangular but slanted on the graphical display (screen). That behavour first occurred when I was trying to plot a stepfun, e.g., y <-

line widths of plotting symbols in the lattice
Dear List, Sorry, this is very simple but I can't seem to find any information regarding line widths of plotting symbols in the lattice package. For instance, in traditional graphics: > plot(1:10,lwd=3) > points(10:1,lwd=2,col=3) 'lwd' allows control of plotting symbol line widths. I've tried looking through the documentation for xyplot, panel.points, trellis.par.set,

xyplot axis line width
Hi, another question: is there any argument that controls the line width of axis box of xyplot()? I tried lwd=2 or lwd.axis=2 in xyplot() or within scales=list() argument, without success. Thanks John

Windows Printing and Line Widths
Hi all, I develop and print from both Windows and Linux, and am seeing some printing inconsistencies first described about a year and a half ago by Andy Liaw (see below). Specifically, the line widths on my windows plots are about 5 times smaller than that on Linux, and my windows printouts do not match what my screen looks like. However, if I print to a pdf file first, then I can get accurate

axis line width in boxplots
Dear R-helpers, I've produced boxplots for a publication but I have a visual problem that I don't mamage to fix. For visual reasons, I reduced the line width with "lwd=0.5". It works nicely for all the lines (frame of the plot, boxes, notches and medians) exept for the axis line. Thus the two axes appear twice the width of the frame. How can I control only the width of the axis

How to change the margin widths in png-plots?
Hello, I have tried to change the margin widths so that mtext (here "sd of consecutive pc intervals", look at the picture) and plot(...,xlab="bar") fits to the picture. Here is an example: http://users.utu.fi/attenka/margins.png This doesn't help: par(mar=c(5.1, 7.1, 4.1, 2.1)) And here are the commands: png(filename="/Users/kone/Vaitostutkimus/Pictures/

axis() default values for "lty", "lwd", and "col"
Hi, I would like to recommend a minor modification in axis() which I believe can simplify the making of plots for publications. I am trying to define default values for par() in order to make labels bigger and lines thicker, so that the resulting plots look good when resized for publication purposes. I ran into the following problem... axis() does not use par() values as default for

[sm.density.compare] scale up y-axis and additional line type
Dear fellows, The two questions are on sm.density.compare(). I compare kernel density estimates of two arrays of data. I'd like to scale up y-axis so that I can show better the differences in y values. English is not my first language so I'll try to explain it. I would like to stretch y-axis a bit longer but not to change the range of y values. How can I do this? Second, I'm

Wishlist: axis( ) could take vector of colors (PR#7930)
Hi, This is not a bug, but a simple enhancement suggestion: that axis( ) also allow option "col" to take a vector of colors equal to the length of "labels". Currently it allows it, in the sense that there is no error message, but the function will use just the first element of the vector. Example > plot(1:5,exp(1:5),axes=F,type="o") >

Wishlist: more flexible handling of tick labels in axis.Date (PR#7914)
I think allowing the user to change the labels is a good idea, but have some nitpicking about the details. - Could you grab a copy of the current axis.Date source from https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/src/library/graphics/R/datetime.R and edit that, rather than what you see in R? There are some comments in the source that shouldn't be lost. This will also mean that it's easier to

"Select Script File" window

latticeExtra: useOuterStrips and axis.line$lwd
Hi, I'm working on some lattice wireframe figures that have two conditioning factors, and I want the strips labelled on the top and left of the entire plot, rather than above each individual panel. useOuterStrips() does this, but it draws internal axis lines, even after I explicitly set axis.line to 0. Is there a way to use useOuterStrips but without axis boxes? I've included a short

Wishlist: more flexible handling of tick labels in axis.Date (PR#7913)
Full_Name: Gavin Simpson Version: 2.1.0-patched (1-Jun-2005) OS: Linux (Fedora Core 3) Submission from: (NULL) (128.40.32.76) axis.Date() insists on labelling tick marks. It could be made more flexible by allowing the user to specify if they want the ticks to be labelled, for example, to add un-labelled minor ticks for "months", added to a plot with "years" labelled. Fonts and Line widths
Hi All R guru's, A couple of simple questions which I cannot find answers to in "an introduction to R" or in the reference manuals. I am running R on Win95, and have plotted up quite a nice box and whisker plot: char<-read.table("n:/reddinm/grifpr~1/survey/char.txt") attach(char) boxplot(Al,Fe,OC,pH, range=0,xaxis=FALSE, ylab="Proportion of Unirigated
