Maybe somebody can help me with the following questions:
I have submitted Rmetrics to the CRAN server and was looking what happened.
1) The */contrib/checkSummary.html shows a table which reports the
daily package check results.
For my packages there is no entry in the column "r-devel", the other
packages have "OK" or "WARN".
What does it mean?

Rd files with "%" (was: permuting dimensions)
Professor Ripley
thanks for this. Very much appreciated.
The original subject line reflected my late-night conviction
that the answer might involve passing a strange list to do.call().
Anyway, package magic is broken (only in R-devel, I might add) because I have
a function called "%eq%".
R-2.0.0 CMD check is stopping (I think) because it interprets the
"%" as a

lattice package for R 2.0.0
Dear all,
I am trying to install packages with the new R 2.0.0. However for
several packages, like MASS, lattice or R2HTML, I get an error like:
> library(lattice)
Error in library(lattice) : 'lattice' is not a valid package --

However, I have just downloaded the latest versions from CRAN.
As far as lattice is concerned, it seems that the Windows binary is

Updated Windows toolchain
An updated toolchain is now being used for Windows' builds of R-devel:
details are in the R-admin manual and at
http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ and
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/
Both 32- and 64-bit parts of the toolchain use v2.0.1 of the Mingw-w64
project's runtime and a beta of gcc 4.5.4: the Mingw.org project's
builds are no longer used. This should mean that

Milestone: 1000 packages on CRAN as of today(?)
Hi,
I was just looking at the "CRAN Daily Package Check Results"
[http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/checkSummary.html], and
realized there are 1000 packages on CRAN as of today (look at row 3 in
the table below). Yet another quite extraordinary milestone in R
history.

orphaned packages
Are there many packages that are orphaned, and have a better "half" much
like bootstrap?
Is there a listing, or directory of "recommended" packages (other than the
packages downloaded with the initial R install)?
Thanks,
Neil Eastep.

Separation issue in binary response models - glm, brglm, logistf
Dear all,
I am encountering some issues with my data and need some help.
I am trying to run glm analysis with a presence/absence variable as
response variable and several explanatory variable (time, location,
presence/absence data, abundance data).
First I tried to use the glm() function, however I was having 2 warnings
concerning glm.fit () :
# 1: glm.fit: algorithm did not converge

model selection using logistf package
Hi everyone,
I'm wondering how to select the "best" model when using logistf? AIC does
not work neither does anova. I tried fitting a glm model but got the
separation warning message so I tried using the logistf package but as I
stepwise simplify the model I don't know if the simplification is motivated
or not... Can anyone explain to me how I should approach this problem? I

<RBloomberg Package Problem>
Hi R-Experts,
I'm currently using R 2.4.0 in Windows XP. I'm trying to download data
from Bloomberg using the package "RBloomberg", but it fails to install
the three needed packages "zoo", "chron" and 'Rbloomberg". Moreover I
am not able to find "RBloomberg" package as windows binary in CRAN
site as only for MAC it's given. Please

penalized maximum likelihood estimation and logistf
Hi, I got two questions and would really appreciate any help from here.
First, is the penalized maximum likelihood estimation(Firth Type Estimation)
only fit for binary response (0,1 or TRUE, FALSE)? Can it be applied to
multinomial logistic regression?
If yes, what's the formula for LL and U(beta_i)? Can someone point me to
the right reference?
Second, when I used *logistf *on a dataset with

RFC: no automatic updates of packages with major version change
We (Kurt Hornik, Brian Ripley & I) want to propose the following
change to the automatic package updating mechanisms of R: A major
version number change of a package will by default disable the
automatic updating of packages, because the interface of the package
might have changed and hence old code might not run anymore.
A recent example was the release of mclust version 2.0, which is not

problem with logistic regression
Hi,
we try to do a logistic regression with the function glm.
But we notice that this function don't give the same results as the SAS proc
catmod (differents estimate given).
We try to change the contrast on R system with:
> options(contrasts=c(unordered="contr.SAS",ordered="contr.poly"))
We also try with brlr and logistf functions.
Unfortunately, the estimate

rnorm??
I am wondering whether there is a bug in rnorm.
When generating rnorm(1000000) and counting
the cases > 4 and the cases < (-4) I get rather
unexpectedly low counts for the latter. The problem goes away
when using qnorm(runif(1000000)).
