corrections for R-intro.texi (PR#7192)
Hello, Here are some patches for R-intro.texi, to correct various typos, missing words, and minor inconsistencies in formatting. Each patch is preceeded by its corresponding 'wdiff' output to make it easier to see which words have changed. -- Brian Gough Network Theory Ltd, Publishing the R Reference Manuals --- http://www.network-theory.co.uk/R/

par mfrow in "function" problem
Hi all, I defined the following ############################# myhist=function(x){ hist(x,xlab="",main="") h=hist(x) xfit=seq(min(x),max(x),length=100) yfit=dnorm(xfit,mean(x),sd=sd(x)) yfit=yfit*diff(h$mids[1:2])*length(x) lines(xfit, yfit, col="blue", lwd=2) } ############################# individually, it worked fine however, if I used par(mfrow=c(2,2))

Howto fit normal curve into histogram using GGPLOT2
Currently, I am doing it this way. x <- mtcars$mpg h<-hist(x, breaks=10, col="red", xlab="Miles Per Gallon", main="Histogram with Normal Curve") xfit<-seq(min(x),max(x),length=40) yfit<-dnorm(xfit,mean=mean(x),sd=sd(x)) yfit <- yfit*diff(h$mids[1:2])*length(x) lines(xfit, yfit, col="blue", lwd=2) But since, ggplot2 has more appealing

typo in R-ints.texi's description of P_ macro
I think there are some missing words in "R Internals"'s description of the P_ macro. It currently has "A macro as a wrapper for ngettext", which I think ought to be something like "The macro P_ may be used as a wrapper for ngettext". The following patch also makes the 2 alternate definitions of P_ have the same argument names, StringS and StringP. Expanding the

lattice with predicted values
Dear lattice wizards, I am trying to figure out how to plot predicted values in xyplot, where the intercept, but not the slope, varies among conditioning factor levels. I am sure it involves the groups, but I have been unsuccessful in my search in Pinhiero and Bate, in the help files, or in the archive, or in my attempts on my own. My example follows: FACT is a factor with levels a,b,c

"Legend" question
Hi, I want to get a histogram with the legend for my data. I drew a normal density curve and kernel density curve in the histogram, and I also label mean and median in the X axis. From the code, I got two legend: One shows "Normal Density" and "Kernel Density" and their corresponding lines, the other shows "Mean = value" and "Median = value" and their

nlm() problem or MLE problem?
I am trying to do a MLE fit of the weibull to some data, which I attach. fitweibull<-function() { rt<-scan("r/rt/data2/triam1.dat") rt<-sort(rt) plot(rt,ppoints(rt)) a<-9 b<-.27 fn<-function(p) -sum( log(dweibull(rt,p[1],p[2])) ) cat("starting -log like=",fn(c(a,b)),"\n") out<-nlm(fn,p=c(a,b), hessian=TRUE)

missing permissions in reference manual copyright page (PR#3528)
Hi, I noticed that the R reference manual seems to be missing the license permissions on the copyright page. Below is a patch to "refman.top" which adds the same permissions as the @permission{} macro in "R-defs.texi". I'm filing this bug as I have been preparing to publish the R Reference Manual (in several volumes). I plan to donate 5 EUR to the R-foundation for each

Nonlinear Regression
Hello I followed the example in page 59, chapter 11 of the 'Introduction to R' manual. I entered my own x,y data. I used the least squares. My function has 5 parameters: p[1], p[2], p[3], p[4], p[5]. I plotted the x-y data. Then I used lines(spline(xfit,yfit)) to overlay best curves on the data while changing the parameters. My question is how do I calculate the residual sum of squares.

R FAQ 2.6, 7.21
Hello R-devel, I would like to suggest a couple of updates for the R FAQ. https://CRAN.R-project.org/bin/linux/suse is currently empty and the directory has mtime from 2012, so it probably doesn't help to reference it in FAQ 2.6. There seems to be increased interest in using variables as variable names [1,2], so it might be useful to expand 7.21 a little. Can an R FAQ entry link to R-intro

Suggested changes to R-lang.texi and R-exts.texi
Dear all, I would like to suggest the following changes to the R documentation: 1) R-exts.texi: Having had my first experience with uploading a package to ftp://cran.R-project.org/incoming/, I think it would be nice if the documentation pointed out that one should use ftp and not sftp (at least on my machine sftp failed to make a connection) and that one should log in as user

Building Windows package .zip files
Section 1.3.3 of Writing R Extensions says "The recommended method of building binary packages is to use R CMD INSTALL --build pkg where pkg is either the name of a source tarball (in the usual .tar.gz format) or the location of the directory of the package source to be built. " (a) vignettes are not created when R CMD INSTALL --build is run on a source directory, so it seems that

one suggestion for R-admin
Just one minor point about building bitmap.dll on Windows in doc/manual/R-admin.texi: In lines 601-605: @item You need @code{libpng} and @code{jpeg} sources (available, e.g., from @url{http://www.libpng.org}, @url{ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/}[png,jpeg]. You will need files @file{libpng-1.2.8.tar.gz} and @file{jpegsrc.v6b.tar.gz} or later. and lines 699-707: The file

R-exts.texi in SVN version 36380
G'day all, after issuing `svn up' on my machine this morning, I noticed that `make info' choked on R-exts.texi. Below is a patch that seems to solve the problem. BTW, while `make info' runs now, I still get the following warning: /usr/bin/makeinfo --enable-encoding -D UseExternalXrefs -I/opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual /opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual/R-exts.texi

suggestion for addition to R-lang.texi
Small suggestion for the documentation: Should the = operator for assignments, described on http://developer.r-project.org/equalAssign.html, now be included in the operator table in doc/manual/R-lang.texi? If so, one possibility could be after lines 1096/7: @item @code{<-} @tab Left assignment, binary @item @code{=} @tab Left assignment, binary Also, where is the best place to send

Documentation update to R-lang.texi
Section 4.3.4 of R-lang.texi version 41191 in the paragraph that starts "When h(3) is..." explains that x and y are unbound variables in the function body of g in this example: f <- function(x) { y <- 10 g <- function(x) x + y return(g) } h <- f() h(3) while the paragraph following the example explains that "bound

Missing parenthesis in R-exts.texi
Line 1204 (right now) of svn/r-devel/doc/manual/R-exts.texi has dest <- file.path(R_PACKAGE_DIR, paste0('bin', R_ARCH) which lacks a closing ) -- two open, only one close right now.
