[PATCH] suggestions for R-lang manual
Attached is a patch with suggestions for the R-lang manual at r64277. Below are a few comments (some are implemented in the patch): In the section "Objects", there is a table introduced by "The following table describes the possible values returned by typeof". One of the results is "any". Can "any" be returned by "typeof()" ? Regarding the

Dear Jarkko, Thank you for spotting these problems and suggesting fixes for them! I am forwarding your e-mail to the R-devel mailing list (removing the R-help list, which is for different kind of R problems), together with a patch implementing your suggested changes. ? R FAQ 2.6, 7.21
Hello R-devel, I would like to suggest a couple of updates for the R FAQ. https://CRAN.R-project.org/bin/linux/suse is currently empty and the directory has mtime from 2012, so it probably doesn't help to reference it in FAQ 2.6. There seems to be increased interest in using variables as variable names [1,2], so it might be useful to expand 7.21 a little. Can an R FAQ entry link to R-intro

typo in R-ints.texi's description of P_ macro
I think there are some missing words in "R Internals"'s description of the P_ macro. It currently has "A macro as a wrapper for ngettext", which I think ought to be something like "The macro P_ may be used as a wrapper for ngettext". The following patch also makes the 2 alternate definitions of P_ have the same argument names, StringS and StringP. Expanding the

missing permissions in reference manual copyright page (PR#3528)
Hi, I noticed that the R reference manual seems to be missing the license permissions on the copyright page. Below is a patch to "refman.top" which adds the same permissions as the @permission{} macro in "R-defs.texi". I'm filing this bug as I have been preparing to publish the R Reference Manual (in several volumes). I plan to donate 5 EUR to the R-foundation for each

WRE about R_strtod
Hello, This is what "Writing R extensions" currently says about R_atof and R_strtod: >> Function: void R_atof (const char* str) >> Function: void R_strtod (const char* str, char ** end) >> >> Implementations of the C99/POSIX functions atof and strtod which >> guarantee platform-dependent behaviour, including always using the >> period as the decimal

issues with Sweave and inclusion of graphics in a document
the problem is a little hard to explain; the .Rnw files (below) probably do a better job, but here goes ... Sweave doesn't like it when i size a graphical device in a code chunk using either, e.g.: windows(width=20, height=5) in Windows, or, e.g. x11(width=20, height=5) under X, when i then plot something in said device and try to include this graphical output in the resulting

Build rpm package for R-MKL
I want to create a clean .rpm package for R built with MKL and ICC. I follow Fedora instrcutions[0] to create the package. As a base, I use the R-3.2.2.src.rpm. I am left with this error: ------------------------------------------ installing R info pages ... updating '/usr/share/info/dir' ... make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/poisonivy/rpmbuild/BUILD/R-3.2.2/doc/manual' + mv

one suggestion for R-admin
Just one minor point about building bitmap.dll on Windows in doc/manual/R-admin.texi: In lines 601-605: @item You need @code{libpng} and @code{jpeg} sources (available, e.g., from @url{http://www.libpng.org}, @url{ftp://ftp.uu.net/graphics/}[png,jpeg]. You will need files @file{libpng-1.2.8.tar.gz} and @file{jpegsrc.v6b.tar.gz} or later. and lines 699-707: The file

Building Windows package .zip files
Section 1.3.3 of Writing R Extensions says "The recommended method of building binary packages is to use R CMD INSTALL --build pkg where pkg is either the name of a source tarball (in the usual .tar.gz format) or the location of the directory of the package source to be built. Build R form source - manuals
I built R form source succesfully on my Fedora 22 box. No errors. I can read there is an issue with some manuals at build time when running makeinfo, especially these two: doc/manual/R-exts.texi cp doc/manual/R-intro.texi Some distro have hacks about makeinfo 5 in their build script. I wonder if some manuals are broken but couldn't see it when running make. May someone tells me more about

CXX_STD and configure.ac in packages
In C++ code for use in a R-3.1.0 package, my specific problem is that I would like to use <unordered_map> if it is available, or <tr1/unordered_map> if not, or <map> if all else fails. I (think I) can accomplish this with configure.ac as AC_INIT("DESCRIPTION") CXX=`"${R_HOME}/bin/R" CMD config CXX` CXXFLAGS=`"${R_HOME}/bin/R" CMD config

An introduction to R - language is R or S ?
I have done a diff between R 2.0 and R 1.9 versions of 'An introduction to R'. I notice that line 196 of R-intro.texi now calls the language used in R 'S', and not 'R' any longer. I imagine there must be a reason for this, it is not a simple mistake is it ? -- Michele Alzetta
