is.integer() (PR#6984)
Hello!
I'm not sure if is it a BUG or not...
I'm using R 1.9.0, and I used the command below:
> is.integer(9)
[1] FALSE
R manual contains this words about the is.integer() function:
"is.integer returns TRUE or FALSE depending on whether its argument is of
integer type or not."
What's the problem? Am I wrong about the BUG report?
Thank you very much.

negative numbers from object.size() on 64 bit systems
Has anyone running R 1.8.1 on a 64 bit system gotten negative numbers
from object.size() on objects > 2GB or so? For example, on
Solaris/Sparc I get
> b <- numeric(131072 * 2800)
> object.size(b)
[1] -1358954440
I get similar behavior on the Opteron (SuSE Linux). I'm not sure if
this is an R problem or something wrong with the way it was compiled on
either system.

bug or feature? (PR#4150)
Full_Name: Axel Benz
Version: 1.7.1
OS: Windows
Submission from: (NULL) (137.251.33.43)
This feature seems to be a basic bug:
> 1=="1"
[1] TRUE
> as.numeric(1)=="1"
[1] TRUE
> as.numeric(1)==as.character("1")
[1] TRUE
isn't it necessary to distinguish beteen numbers and characters??

Dear all,
I have several questions regarding fisher.test() in
R, and I'd highly appreciate any help with it.
I have a group of observations, each having people's
income, and an indicator of whether selected in or out
a program. I want to test the difference between
income of people who are in and out.
Because the distribution is far from normal, I decide

A different error in sample()
Good day,
The use of "rounding" also doesn't make sense. If The number is halfway between two integers, it is rounded to the nearest even integer.

When data.frames are written to a file using write.table and with row.names and
col.names, then the colnames are displaced by 1 with respect to column content.
Example:

Scripting SVG with R
Since now many browsers support (ECMA/Java-)scripted SVG, I am wondering
whether there are already any examples of inserting R code into SVG
documents (or a Javascript canvas?) either directly, or perhaps more
likely through a JavaScript layer, to dynamically generate graphics or
make them interactive?
I am aware of the excellent packages gridSVG and SVGAnnotation, which
facilitate making

Pixmap package for Windows
Hi,
I tried to install the "pixmap" package on R 1.5.1. running on Windows 2000,
but all I get are the following errors - could it be that something is wrong
with the build of this particular package? Installation of other packages (I
just tried with "pinktoe") seems to work fine.

[BioC] make.cdf.package: Error: cannot allocate vector of size 1 Kb
My machine has 8GB memory. I had quit all other programs that might
take a lot of memory when I try the script (before I post the first
message in this thread). The cdf file is of only 741 MB. It is strange
to me to see the error.

R not responding (must force quit) when saving graphic to PDF (bug?)
Dear Wolfgang,
Thanks for your response.
No, I haven't tried doing the complete reinstallation as you suggest. If I
recall correctly, this has happened on previous occasions but like I said
in my email it's not all that disruptive to my workflow. It's more like a
'first world problem'.
I was encouraged to submit the query because I had correspondence with
someone involved

R not responding (must force quit) when saving graphic to PDF (bug?)
Dear colleagues,
I wish to report a problem I encounter when trying to save a graphic to
file. When I produce a graphic and try to save it R becomes unresponsive
and I must force quit, and then restart R. The problem occurs when I try to
overwrite an existing graphic: for example when I made changes to the
graphic and want to save the graphic using the original file name. It only
happens when I

A different error in sample()
FWIW, I suspect this is related to the function R_unif_index that was
introduced in src/main/RNG.c around revision 72356, or the way this
function is used in do_sample in src/main/random.c.

Similarly for flag=[SnZ].

SVG and tooltips, hyperlinks
Dear all,
is there a good way to create SVG plots with R whose elements have
titles (tooltips) or act as hyperlinks?
I am using the RSvgDevice package, which works great - but it doesn't
seem to support the notion that plot objects have titles or are act as
hyperlinks, so I am helping myself by giving the objects funny unique
colors and then postprocessing the .svg file.
I wonder

Subsetting an array by a vector of dimensions
Hi
Is it possible to subset an n-dimensional array by a vector of n dimensions? E.g. assume I have
> x <- array(1:24, dim=2:4)
> x[1,1,2]

> dims <- c(1,1,2)
I would like a function that I can supply x and dims as parameters to, and have it return 7. Also, I would like to do something like:
> x[1,1,]
[1] 1 7 13 19

And have a function of x and
