Multi-line string constants: proposed patch
R 1.9.1 requires multi-line strings to contain a backslash at the
end of each line (except the last line). As noted by Mark
Bravington (http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/02b/5199.html)
this requirement appears to be undocumented.
In S-Plus 6.2, multi-line strings do not need a backslash for continuation.

sed with several lines, how?
hyphen's [ - ] are just for marking the start/end of a pattern, but
there are _not in_ the pattern!
"OUTPUT" is what i want after "seding" the PATTERN#X's
so i for e.g.: need the first, and second "magic"
sed "FIRSTMAGIC" PATTERN#1
sed "SECONDMAGIC" PATTERN#2

how to call javascript function in text_field_tag
Dear all
Sorry for dummy question. How can I convert a text input in form to
upper case letter in view?
Can I call the javascript function toUpperCase() in text_field_tag??
<%= text_field_tag(:sometext, nil, :size => 14) %>
I know I can achieve this using params[:sometext].upcase in controller,
but I want to do this in view. Any ideas?
Many thanks

segfault with grid and null unit (PR#8014)
Full_Name: Jonathan Paisley
Version: 2.1.1
OS: Mac OS X 10.4.2
Submission from: (NULL) (81.178.107.67)
I was following an example from library/grid/doc/grid.pdf ("Introduction to
grid") and had the following code, where I'd mis-typed 1,3 instead of 1,2 as the
first arguments to grid.layout.
Sourcing this code causes the R GUI to crash. I've enclosed a partial backtrace

textilize with --- (3 dashes) removes text
Hi,
using --- (3 dashes) at the end of a string that is textilized,
results in a single hr tag without any text. This seems weird to me.
Am I overlooking something?
>> av = ActionView::Base.new
>> av.textilize("sometext ---")
=> "<hr />"
Cheers,
Jan

Using a C program inside of Rails
Hi,
I have a compiled c program I use to do text processing.
It operates as a pipe:
cat sometext.txt | /usr/local/bin/my_c_program > othertext.txt
I want to use it to process text which is typed into
a textarea field in an HTML form.
What are some options I have to make use of this
executable so I could use it as a text filter inside
of Rails?

Adding text to page margin with lattice graphics
R: 2.12.1
OS X
Colleagues
I am working with lattice graphics for the first time and I am confused by some aspects of controlling these graphics. The most pressing issue is the following:
I can print the graphics without problems with the command:
print(MYFUNCTION(SOMEOBJECT)
However, I would like to add margin text (this terminology might not apply in this setting). I am able to do so with

Textilize problems with line breaks
I''m having a problem formatting some text. I have a textarea that I
input my text into, which will then be put into an e-mail and sent out.
The problem I am having is when there is a single line break.
Multiple line breaks work fine (hitting enter twice), but single line
breaks don''t seem to work properly.
Take the following input:
Line1.
Line2.
Line3.
Line4.

parse( connection) and source-keeping
In R <= 2.13.x, calling 'parse( con)' where 'con' is a connection, 'options( keep.source)' is TRUE, and default 'srcfile' would preserve the source. In R >= 2.14.1, it doesn't.

predict (PR#2686)
# r-bugs@r-project.org
`predict' complains about new factor levels, even if the "new" levels are
merely levels in the original that didn't occur in the original fit and were
sensibly dropped, and that don't occur in the prediction data either. (At
least if `drop.unused.levels' was set to TRUE, which the default.)

Another wishlist for R
First, a big thanks to all of the developers and users that have worked to
make R such useful software. It is only because I find the software so useful
that I have the following opinions.
A recent post to R-devel listed the 'Top 10 Features' for one person. I found
it to be quite an interesting read. Over the past couple of years I have
assembled my own lists.

how to stop without error message?
Dear list
Can anyone suggest a simple way to abort execution like stop(...) does, but without issuing an "Error: ..." message?
I don't want to set 'options( show.error.messages=TRUE)' because I want normal behaviour to resume after this particular stop.
(Please reply personally as well as to the list, as I'm not subscribed to R-help)
Thanks

doveadm search doesn't update fts
Hello,
Doveadm search is failing to update our Squat indexes. The search itself
works fine but the dovecot.index.search* files remain unchanged. I
tried:
doveadm search -u test mailbox INBOX body sometext
doveadm search -u test mailbox INBOX text sometext
I also tried the exact syntax Timo expressed in an earlier post:
doveadm search -A body asdf
If I run the same search through IMAP, the
