Patch to coplot.R
---1149173172-1804289383-983267779=:26068
Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii
Hello,
and a big thank you for providing R!
Please find attached a diff for coplot which you may want to consider
for the next release. The diff is against R 1.2.2. The reasons for this
patch are:
1. The boxes of coplot did not align very well with the panel graphs if
applied to a factor
2. Putting the

coplot and par
R 1.9.1 on Win2000 or Win98SE.
I am using coplot as follows:
coplot(AVG~LRPI| REGION)
the output seems normal but I get:
"Warning message:
calling par(new=) with no plot"
This is the only explanation that I have for being unable to use par() with
coplot for changing the way the xlab and ylab appears. From within coplot I
can change the text itself but not the font, fontsize, etc,

Outer margin (oma) settings for pairs()
I propose the following small changes to pairs.default.
The point is to allow control of the outer margin settings,
so that there is for example room for legends.
[Note also the issue re the setting of par()$usr on exit]

I am trying to write a tcltk based program that plots/manipulates

barplot forces xpd=TRUE (PR#1088)
<<insert bug report here>>
barplot hardcodes xpd as "TRUE" causing the bars to go outside of the
plot region. True can be the default, but it shouldn't be the only
option.

R-alpha: R 0.50.a1: small patches for graphics and image demo
Applying the following patches closes the following task (part 1 was
already taken care of).
TASK: New Problems
STATUS: Open
FROM: <Kurt.Hornik@ci.tuwien.ac.at>
New minor remarks:
* The documentation for `image' still has the old order z, x, y.
* Perhaps one should add `par(ask = T)' in the image demo?
* Perhaps one should save the original value

Coplot Question (Unresolved)
Rers,
I still have a question concerning the coplot function.
I have written some code using the coplot:
coplot(y ~ as.numeric(Base) | a * b)
Where Base is a factor.
And it works great! However, according to the way coplot works, Base is
converted by "as.numeric" from Base values, A, C, G, and T to 1, 2, 3,
and 4, which is not very helpful for data

overlap cdf plots and add colors and etc
Hi r-users,
I would like to overlap 2 ecdf plots.
I tried this below and it gives me two plots of ecdf but just both just in
black.
par(mar=c(4,4,2,1.2),oma=c(0,0,0,0),xaxs="i", yaxs="i")
plot(ecdf(datobs))
lines(ecdf(gam_sum_gen))
Then I try to add colors etc and also the legend but fail.
par(mar=c(4,4,2,1.2),oma=c(0,0,0,0),xaxs="i", yaxs="i")

need help with axis ticks
hi,
i am using par(mrow=c(6,6)) function to get 6x6 plots on one screen. the
problem that i am having is that the axis tick labels are far away from the
ticks and going into previous plots (see attached figure). i need to know
how can i reduce the distance between the ticks and their values (y axis
values).the part of the code that i am using (after reading in the data) to
create the top row is:

coplot gives 3 panels, rather than 2, namely one for i=1 and one for
i=2.
Futhermore, when I extand data fram xy to have i=3 as follows:

More than one series in a coplot
Hi!
I would like to know, how do you plot more than one data series when
using "coplot"?
I think I know the answer if "plot" is being used:
x <- 1:10
y <- 1:10
y2 <- 1:10* 1.1
plot ( y ~ x, type="n" )
points( y ~ x, type = "b", col = "red" ) # plot the points and lines
for the first series
points( y2 ~ x, type = "b", col =

Bug in coplot()
I am using R0.63.1 under Windows 95.
Settings of <number> and <interval> when coplot is called
are ignored, except for generating a warning. For example:
> data(quakes)
> coplot(long ~ lat | depth * mag, data = quakes, number=3)
Warning: parameter "number" couldn't be set in high-level plot() function
The warning is repeated ad nauseum.

writing a panel function in coplot for displaying a non-linear regression model graphically
Hello,I am a little bit struggling with the following:
I would like to draw a coplot and in each panel draw the curve and display
the coefficients of the regression model y~a*x^b.
I thought of running nls(y~a*x^b,...) in panel=function(x,y...){} when
calling coplot. How can I do this?
Alternatively, I could do the regression before graphing with coplot and
just use the panel function to draw the

Help with graphing impulse response functions
Dear colleagues/contributors,
I'd be pleased if someone could provide insights on how to plot impulse response functions in a format that can easily be copied in a word document just as plotting time-series of variables.
I had followed the outline suggested by Benhard Pfaff [see http://127.0.0.1:17693/library/vars/html/irf.html] but I am unable to get the impulse response functions in a

coplot has me stumped
I'm having trouble with coplot. I have two conditioning variables, and when I
try to specify two sets of given.values, no matter what I do I get the message,
Error: Object "b.levels" not found.
Here is the section of code:
c.ranges <- co.intervals(schses, number=4, overlap=0)
a.ranges <- co.intervals(as.factor(aa94), number=2, overlap=0)
PredAA <- as.factor(aa94)

coplot row separatot line
Hi all,
I could not find a way to add the dashed horizontal separator line to the top
panel of a coplot (the one indicating which panel belongs to which range of the
given variable a in y~x | a).
This line should separate the ranges plotted in a row of panels in the panel
matrix below (hmmm, hope this is reasonably clear). I like it because it
enhances readability.
I'll try a sketch:

Plot window - save as Postscript question
R 2.4.0 for Windows
The following plot appears as a squared window (as all r-plots)
Not all subtitles are visible, but all subtitle will appear, when
changing the aspect ratio of the plot window with the mouse to a wide
format.
But does not work when using the save as postscript menu item from the
plot window.
is there any solution for that?

mosaic.by(): vectorizing args passed by apply()?
I've just started learning R, so I'm still on the steep part of the
learning curve, but my enthusiasm was heightened by learning that
there's a very nice implementation of mosaicplot().
As a learning project, I've already done a basic implementation
of a pairs.table() function which does a mosaic scatterplot matrix,
and now I'm trying to do conditional mosaic plots (discrete

coplot with png: disappearing grid lines
Dear useRs,
When I use coplot() and output to png/jpeg/bmp, the grid lines from
the scatter plots disappear. If I output to pdf() the grid lines are
there, however I can't use it - I have many points, and the resulting
PDF file is large and very slow to open and scroll through. (By the
way, if I click File-Save As-png/jpeg/bmp from Rgui.exe, the grid
lines are preserved - but I need to use

strange error from R CMD check about xaxp
Dear R-devel,
Kurt had alerted me to the problem that the randomForest package that I
maintain has been failing checks in R-devel. However, I just can't see
why or where it's failing. I'd very much appreciate any pointer.
The failure occur when running the example code in varImpPlot.Rd:
> varImpPlot(mtcars.rf)
