problems when compiling R
When I was trying to compile R-1.9.1 from source, I've got problems which seemed related to compiling the LAPACK package.
The error message is as follows:
gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o libRlapack.so dlamc.lo dlapack0.lo dlapack1.lo dlapack2.lo dlapack3.lo cmplx.lo -lblas -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/ia64-redhat-linux/2.96 -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/ia64-redhat-linux/2.96/../../.. -lg2c

itanium
I am trying to compile R-1.6.1 on an itanium.
using either gcc 2.96 or gcc 3.0.4 nad either
the supplied Redhat blas libs or the supplied code (ie
wiht the --no-blas option) I get this error.
Has anyone who has compiled R for the itanium advise

R compile on AIX 5.2
Fellow R Enthusiasts..
I'm trying to compile R on AIX 5.2 32bit with gcc 3.3.2-5. I've
tried both the development bundle R-devel_2006-01-25.tar.gz and the
R-beta.tar.gz from about a month ago. In each instance, I'm using the
following options prior to running "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/R":

Installing splancs_2.01-9 on Red Hat Linux 7.3
Hi all,
I'm trying to install the splancs contributed package on a Redhat 7.3
system with R 1.5.1 installed. I've installed the readline41-4.1-10 RPM
which Redhat requires for R and it works great, thanks very much.
However, when I attempt to R CMD INSTALL splancs_2.01-9.tar.gz as root,
I get the following error message during the install:

Help with hclust() and plot()
Hi
When I use plot(hclust(dist..)...)...) etc to create a dendrogram of a
hierarchial cluster analysis, I end up with a vertical tree. What do I
need to do to get a horizontal tree?
Also, my users are used to seeing trees who's leaves all "end" at the
same place (eg. Like in minitab). Is this possible in R?
Thanks

Problem installing Rmpi with lam on SGI SLES9
Hi,
I've been trying here to install Rmpi on an SGI IA-64 machine with 64
processors, running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, R 2.4.0 and
lam-mpi 7.1.3. While I've read of similar problems on this list, I
think I've got an entirely new set of error messages to contribute
(see below). I'm not sure what the actual error is and what the @gprel
relocation message is about. Any help

setting a large value of --max-vsize
Hello,
I'm using a 64bit Linux with 16GB of RAM. I'd like to limit the memory
that the R process can use so I'm trying to use --max-vsize switch.
However, it is seems that I can't enforce a limit above 2GB.

speed difference between pgf77 and g77 on amd64
For those interested:
I compiled R-1.9.0beta_2004-04-02 with pgf77/gcc/g++ and g77/gcc/g++, both
_without_ fast BLAS. Both passed make check-all. Simple crossprod(m) for
fairly large `m' shows that the version compiled with pgf77 is about 15%
faster:
[andy@leo:scratch]% echo "set.seed(1); m <- matrix(runif(5e7), 1e4); gc();
system.time(crossprod(m))" | R-1.9.0-PGI/bin/R

v1.3 plugin locations
It's getting more and more annoying to have separate plugin directories
for lda, pop3 and imap. Currently all the plugins are installed into
$lib/dovecot/ and then symlinked to the lda, pop3, imap directories. The
original reason was that v0.99 just loaded everything in those
directories since there was no mail_plugins setting.
But then there are things like expire-tool and convert-tool (and

[PATCH] ia64: Fix shared build
We need to build with -mno-pic to disable all uses of GP, as well as use
a custom linker script to avoid collisions between klibc.so's and the
executable's segments.

[R] R compile on AIX 5.2
Professor Ripley,
Following your advice, I am now using an updated version of gcc
(4.0.2 to be exact) as well as a true fortran compiler (XL Fortran
Compiler v10.1.0.0 from IBM). I am still experiencing difficulty in
running "make" after a successful "configure". Any additional insight
you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Output of make is as
follows:
