build rpvm under cygwin
I tried ot build rpvm in my own makefile. But runs into some linker errors like e.g. undefined reference to `_R_alloc' My enviornment looks like this: CYGWIN pvm 3.4 compiled under cygwin myself R installed from the rw2001.exe setup file. I guess that the R under rw2001.exe was build with some other compiler? I then tried to compile R myself under CYGWIN but runs into the following

Matrix package transpose
Hi, Since I installed R 2.13 I cannot use the transpose method "t" on sparse matrices inside my package. Outside the package works. Is there something new that I have to import methods? Can I then import everything from the Matrix package? The problem is that R tries to use t.default which of course doesn't work. Happy easter, Tobias -- Tobias Abenius Ph.D. Student, M.Sc. in

Matrix decomposition: orthogonal complement
Hello, How I can compute in R the orthogonal complement of one matrix? If A (n x m ) matrix of full column rank (n>m), its orthogonal complement is denoted by A_ . A_ is n X (n-m) matrix of full column rank and such that A'A_=0. I need to compute A_. How I can compute A_ in R? Best Regards, /Florin -- Florin G. interactive file choosing in Linux?
I am used to using the [R] function choose.files() for interactive file selection in MS-Windows. What is the comparable function in Linux? I expected the function file.choose() to display similar behavior, i.e., a graphical interface diplaying a file listing, but all I seem to get is a "text input prompt". This does not seem correct. > file.choose() Enter file

When Im accessing a folder I get prompted for password (my login on windows98 is the same as for linux). But it doesnt accept the password "Bad password". When I log in from other

Adding Tk extensions to R for windows
Hi, I'm developing an R/TclTk application which uses the BWidget and Tktable Tk extensions and I'm trying to make it easy to install. For now, I'm focusing on Windows users who start with nothing. I have built Tcl/Tk and Tktable for windows using Msys/MinGW. (BWidget contains only Tcl scripts so does not need building.) I have then copied Tktable and BWidget into the lib subdirectory

Installing package rpvm under Windows
Hello, I'm trying to install the rpvm package under Windows, but I am having problems. I have pvm3.4 installed properly. I've defined the system variables PVM_ROOT = C:\PROGRA~1\pvm3.4\ PVM_ARCH = win32 When I try to install, I get this: C:\R\Packages>Rcmd INSTALL rpvm_1.0.1.tar.gz ---------- Making package rpvm ------------ **********************************************

How do I combine my ssl certs?
I have https/ssl on my site ok, but it uses two certificates from letsencrypt which renew automatically every three months. However - Icecase says. ssl-certificate If specified, this points to the location of a file that contains both the X.509 private and public key. This is required for HTTPS support to be enabled. Please note that the user Icecast is running as must be able to read the file.

constraint optimization: solving large scale general nonlinear problems
Hi I need advice regarding constraint optimization with large number of variables. I need to solve the following problem max f(x1,...,xn) x1,..xn x1=g1(x1,...,xn) . . xn=gn(x1,...,xn) I am using Rdonlp2 package which works well until 40 variables in my case. I need to solve this problem with over 300 variables. In this case Rdonlp2 is very very slowly. I know

rpvm arch check
I've trying to fix the check error in rpvm package. Right now on my Mac, I use darwinport to install PVM and I can get rpvm to pass the check using 'R -arch x86_64 CMD check'. However the default 'R CMD check' uses i386 which fails since PVM is built for x86_64 only. So is there a way to ensure proper architecture is used that matches that of the external library like PVM?

64-bit R on OS X/G5?
Hi! Does anyone know if there is a working 64-bit version of R for MacOs X on G5? If so, is there a memory limit anyway or could I theroetically use almost 8 GB in one session? Best regards Anders Sj??gren PhD Student Mathematical Statistics Chalmers University of Technology G??teborg, Sweden

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machines
Hi, does anybody know how to use the dual processors in the machines of a cluster? I am using R with rpvm and snow packages. I usually start pvm daemon and add host machines first, and then run R to start my computing work. But I find that only one processor in each machine is used in this way and the other one always stays idle. Is there any simple way to tell pvm to use the two processors at

Installation of R-1.4.1 on Solaris 2.7
I am trying to install R-1.4.1 on the Solaris 2.7 OS by compiling the source code. Unfortunately, I obtain a fatal error during make (apparently while using gcc to compile arithmetic.c). The configure command seemed to work acceptably (end of output follows). --(snip)-- R is now configured for sparc-sun-solaris2.7 Source directory: . Installation directory: /usr/local C

Saving comments to file
Hi Would you please CC me answers to this, I'm not subscribed to the list... I'm pondering writing a GUI program for editing Ogg file comment fields, but I can't find any functions in the API documentation for saving the comment structure to file. Is there an easy way to do this (except for copying vcedit.c from vorbis-tools as I've seen others do!) Thank you, Martin Sjögren

Suggestions for poor man's parallel processing
Almost all of the heavy crunching I do in R is like: > for(i in long.list){ + do.something(i) + } > collect.results() Since all the invocations of do.something are independent of one another, there is no reason that I can't run them in parallel. Since my machine has four processors, a natural way to do this is to divide up long.list into 4 pieces and then start 4 jobs, each of which

R
To all moderators i guess, my question was probably not clear this is not a homework, i am trying to understand R by doing some exercise in my book. I will however participate a course in R in august and thought it could be good to have some knowledge before. I hoped for help from you since i have no instructor to ask, that would have been my first choice. thanks anyway Lotta

Time conversion from Win32 64bit FILETIME?
Windows-32 has a time structure called FILETIME, a 64-bit value representing the number of 100-nanosecond intervals since January 1, 1601 (UTC). That is not a typo, the year is 1601. Does anyone have a clue(or algorhithm)for how this is converted to something a little more POSIX-like ? Thank you, Derek -- Derek N. Eder Gothenburg University VINKLA - Vigilance and Neurocognition
