Cross-compilers for 2.7.0
Hello,
Am I right in thinking the cross-compilations tools, kindly maintained
by Prof Ripley, are still waiting to be updated for 2.7.0?
Thanks,

S4 generic for lowess
Hi,
A lowess method is defined in our package for one of our S4 classes. To
explicitely define the generic this is being used
if (!isGeneric("lowess"))
setGeneric("lowess", useAsDefault = lowess)
This works fine for many other methods inherited from various R
packages. In this case a warning is issued in R CMD check:

DLLs adding in C++ code
I would like to utilise the power of R by adding my own software as a
package written in C++. As a first step I am trying
to write a DLL with a simple function that can be called from R. The DLL
contains a C++ routine written and complied in Microsoft Visual C++ Ver 6.0
and is based upon the example in R-Exts
eg I am trying to create the following example function
SEXP out(SEXP x, SEXP y)

setClass inside a function
Hello,
I would like to create a function that gets passed a class name and then calls setClass, and a few other functions, inside. I have done this in the past with setmethod, creating accessors for all slots in a set of S4 classes. But setClass is choking when my function is called isnide a package, telling about an error in exists(cname, where). I assume this to be a problem with the

SHGetFolderPath and stuff
Hi all,
I was taking another look at SHGetFolderPath() and
related stuff today based on suggestions from Shanko
and Zach. I think this would be fairly simple.
My main question is, where do we put these values?
Under File, Dir, or Shell? Or somewhere else? I vote
Dir, since all the special CSIDL seem to be
directories.
Thus you would have something like:
Dir::ADMINTOOLS
Dir::BITBUCKET

Making a patch
Dear R developers,
is there a preferred format or strategy for making a patch to
contribute to a package that is maintained by R-core? Berwin Turlach
and I have written a very minor extension to lmeControl to allow it to
pass an argument to nlminb for the maximum number of evaluations of
the objective function. I've edited the nlme/R/lme.R and
nlme/man/lmeControl.Rd files. I can diff the

Wine crash
Hello,
I can't use Wine from version >=0.9.18 anymore.
It compiles ok and then it crashes somewhere in the middle of
installation,
I think when Wine tries to execute something.
Even when I try to run winecfg it crashes.
It worked with Wine version 0.9.17 and lower.
Anyone have any idea what's wrong ?
I'm running Slackware 10.0.
Below is what happens when I try to run winecfg.

LoadOEMResource crash [Was: Re: Problem report: SHRINKER.ERR, fix to DEVICE_Open/CreateFileA? ]
Hooray, I got gdb to do what I need, to skip the first exception and
break before the second.
The key commands are:
gdb (winepath)/bin/wine
Set the arguments:
> set args --winver nt40 yourapp
Tell gdb to pass segmentation faults to the program:
> handle SIGSEGV nostop pass
Set a breakpoint at main:
> b main
Run the program:
> run
This loads all the shared libraries, and

Trying to do windows encoding dll
Hi everybody, me again.
I'm trying to write my own VFW-like dll... It doesn't need to do much.
1.) compress a single frame and give it back to the host application
2.) host applications sends the frame
3.) client application receives frame
4.) client application tells the dll to decompress the data
So if I try to do this, something is going wrong...
Perhaps someone could have a look at my

Applications start with title bar grayed
When I try to start notepad, it starts with a grayed title bar,
like it wasnt active. I cant enter text into the input window.
Strange thing, menus work.
To get it look like active and type text, I must select the system menu
and "About wine".
After closing the new window (that has appeared as active), i see that
notepad appears
active and I can enter text.
Has someone this issue ?

Trying to get Search::Xapian perl module to compile on win32
The disclaimer automatically added and is not intended to limit legitimate discourse, and any code I write for this is expected to be licensed under whatever license the original work is using.
I haven't tried compiling latest code under visual studio yet (is this possible?). I wonder if there is a way to tell gcc to not mangle the names during cross compile. I was able to successfully

Another TAPI issue (Microkey Millennium)
Everything appears to install properly under wine when I'm setting up Millennium, but when I try to launch it, I get the following error:

I know tapi support in wine is woefully underdeveloped, but does anyone know if there's some kind of work-around for this kind of
